another budget True 4K Sony sensor dashcam like the last one I posted, but this one has microSD slot (and free 64GB card) with screen and both front and rear cams.

both use same 4K Sony sensor are dual cam (front: 4K, rear: 1080), have IPS screen, have super capacitor, WiFi App and come with free 64GB card (max supported is 256GB).

reviews are great.

$139 D8 has dropped to this price twice before once for almost a month. seems to normally be $170-$180. https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B0CKZ6XSF3

$169 D10 (Prime only price) is normally $219.

spent 15 mins checking both item pages and I can’t tell what the difference is between the two models.

all the features seem to be the exact same. both have great reviews. so the cheaper one is the one to go for?

all I can tell is D8 page mentions Voice control so you can say “take a photo” while driving and it will do it.

even though more expensive the D10 page doesn’t mention Voice control.
but D10 does have AI night vision “【AI-ISP True Color Night Vision】…featuring AI-ISP True Color Night Vision technology. Whether driving at night or in parking mode, achieve significant color restoration, ensuring sharp details for dash cam footage.”. D8 doesn’t have this.

      https://www.kawa-in.com/products/kawa-d10

True, other than AI-ISP, don't really see the differences…

      • yeah few more things I confirmed.

both 150 degrees 7 element lens. both same size 3.16 inch IPS screen.
both H265 video? and G-sensor. included in box items are the same.

the only thing I can think of is Voice control can trigger accidentally (even phone assistant can trigger by accident) so hopefully there is an option to easily turn it off on the D8.
so if D10 doesn’t have it maybe a positive?

  • thanks OP - was just in need of one. cheers!
    edit: found a video review - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2xLiaOQNEM

    • found a video review

      nice!

    • Video review says the camera will prompt us to download an app - can we use the camera without the app?

  • How does this compare with new Starvis 2 sensor? Would I be right to assume not as good at night?

    • yeah that’s what past comments on budget 4K Sony sensor posts said.

newer Sony sensor is better in low light.

Would pay more for something like this but it’s a black nondescript blob that somebody won’t break into your car to get their hands on. Defeats the purpose for me if I have to remove it to the glovebox to keep the car safe

    • Would pay more for something like this but it’s a black nondescript blob that somebody won’t break into your car to get their hands on.

to think of the other side. wouldn't a larger black blob look kind of high tech and more expensive/valuable? or maybe you are saying you want it to look like "part of the car" in which case yeah I can see it being less noticeable/obvious you have a cam.
I remember I think a subaru has a camera hidden in that black dotted area at the top middle of the windscreen. that would be the best.

I actually like the fact this one looks a bit cheap and basic with the glitzy fake silver plastic around the lens, the last one I posted - the GGPAI looks more sleek and desirable. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/852205

      • Oops yes I was unclear, I mean I’d pay more if it was nondescript or, as you put it even better, if it looked like it was part of the car.

Agree that it looks a bit cheap but I don’t know how level-headed the perps that’d break into a car to take a dash-cam are.

        • but I don’t know how level-headed the perps that’d break into a car to take a dash-cam are.

yeah so makes sense to have it be not noticeable. but probably not going to find something like that for a budget price.

  • Video review that refreshingwater found (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2xLiaOQNEM) says the cam will prompt us to download an app … can it be used without the app?

@OP: Is this the best bang for buck option? I am happy to wait for any better deal other so just checking.

    • not an expert sorry.

awhile ago I was just researching dashcam's for someone who didn't want to pay the $399+ for a Viofo 4K so I came across the GGPAI and now these KAWA models which all have decent reviews and true 4K Sony sensor for a more budget price range.

  • The problem is with dashcam i've found is some will just stop recording and you need to unplug and reset it.

Pretty annoying if you don't even know.

not sure what you mean? in loop recording mode?

I think most people want to use loop recording mode so they capture everything and can go back in time a few hours of recorded video.

also since it's USB powered with no battery it should basically be "resetting" and start recording every time you start the car engine.

      • Yep, the thing just stop recording.

And with USB powered, a lot of our new vehicles have always on USB now, so the damn things even record when parked which I would imagine stresses the system.

Anyone have any recommendations for 2 channel models without a screen and preferably no beeps? Just want something subtle.

    • sorry not an expert.

was just looking at well reviewed dashcams with true 4K Sony sensor because $399+ for Viofo 4K was way too much.

Just got this reply from KAWA re the D8 & D10 differences confirming what others have said.

Hi dear, thank you so much for reaching us. The biggest difference between the D8 and D10 is this: D10 supports the true color night vision, which is used the AI-ISP technology, to help you get more clear night vision and the night vision is almost like the daytime recording effect. And the other features and functions between D8 and D10 are the same.

    • +1

    • "AI-ISP augments video imaging and provides high-quality visuals through intelligent noise reduction. This enables clearer images with wide dynamic range and sharp detail even in low-light environments, reducing the need for additional lighting."

  • +1

Does this come with hardwire kit or should it be ordered separately?

    • should be sold separately. most dash cams will only supply 12V cig plug for power.
