TERMS AND CONDITIONS

*To be eligible for the bonus Velocity Points promotion, you must: (1) activate this offer between 12.01am AEST 7 August 2024 and 11.59pm AEST 21 August 2024 inclusive (Promotion Period); (2) book an Eligible Flight between 7 August 2024 and 21 August 2024; (3) travel on an Eligible Flight between 1 October 2024 and 31 March 2025 inclusive (the Travel Period); and (4) enter and have a valid Velocity membership number at time of booking and travel. An Eligible Flight is a flight operated by Singapore Airlines and marketed by either Virgin Australia (VA) or Singapore Airlines (SQ), on all Singapore Airlines operated flights globally, where Velocity Points can normally be earned. Velocity Reward Seat bookings and Singapore Airlines services marketed or operated by partner airlines other than Virgin Australia (VA) are ineligible. The bonus Velocity Points will be credited to the Velocity membership account entered at the time of travel and must be the passenger travelling on the Eligible Flight. The 50% bonus offer does not attract additional bonus Points as a result of the member’s tier. Bonus Velocity Points will be applied to the originally purchased fare class and any upgrades (example: from Economy to Premium Economy, Business or First Class) will only attract bonus Velocity Points as originally booked and ticketed. Flights can be booked via the Virgin Australia website, the Singapore Airlines website or your local travel agent. Bonus Velocity Points are awarded on a sector by sector basis. You should allow up to 4 weeks after the travel period for the bonus Velocity Points to be credited. Velocity membership terms and conditions apply.

  • Will you qualify if booked last month but travel during the eligible period? Assuming as you only get credited the points a few days after travel

"(2) book an Eligible Flight between 7 August 2024 and 21 August 2024"

You wouldn't get the 50% bonus points from this offer then.

    • No.

      (2) book an Eligible Flight between 7 August 2024 and 21 August 2024;

While technically you are not supposed to, I suspect you might still get the bonus points as long as you use your VA FF# on the ticket and you fly SQ during the eligible period. VA ran a similar promo in early 2023, and even though my SQ tickets had already been booked, I still got the bonus points. My guess is that VA have no way of knowing when I booked the SQ ticket and so I got the bonus points.

    • I booked three reward flights today and then found out about this offer. I later activated the offer, hopefully I qualify for bonus points.

Rewards flights don’t earn points so no bonus, 50% of zero = zero

        • Oh really? I don't know why I thought we do. Well, thanks for the clarification.

        • Velocity Reward Seat bookings and Singapore Airlines services marketed or operated by partner airlines other than Virgin Australia (VA) are ineligible.

So does that mean reward seat bookings operated by virgin will get points?

          • @shkippy: I mean if you don't earn points for any rewards flights, why do they point out a difference between rewards flights operated by VA and operated by partner airlines in their T&Cs?

      • +1

You don’t get points with awards flight.

  • +2

Take note that if you attach a VA number to your SQ booking, you don't get free WiFi for your flight if in Economy or Premium Economy.

    • +10

There's a way around this. It's possible to have two FF numbers, one for privileges and another for earning.

Just recently redeemed Velocity for SQ flight to Japan.

Once I got my booking, I went in to booking number in Singapore Airline's website to update my FF number.

Had wifi for my whole flight.

      • Was it fast?

        • +1

Ive flown SQ many times, it really depends on where you are.

Over Australia I found it to be very slow, its decent enough in S.E Asia and throughout certain places in Europe. Flew SQ23 from JFK-SIN and for the 19 hours, I barely had connection for maybe 3-4, and even then it was very slow and good enough for light emails and checking AFR.

        • +3

It doesn’t need to be fast to check OzB every few minutes you’ll be okay

        • +2

I've only used messaging apps because there were plenty of movies to watch on SQ, so I didn't go on any streaming platform. Though, I noticed the Boeing flights had better connections overall vs Airbus - speed and stability.

  • Anyone know this offer still works if booked through online travel agents such as Aunt Betty, BYOJet, etc

  • Argh, i just booked this morning and I can't seem to change the frequent flyer (krisflyer) which I put in with the booking. :(

  • Cheers

  • Has anyone had issues with these codeshare flights? Particularly when picking seats.

    • Yes. I flew SQ with VA codeshare flight number.
Everything was OK until I tried to select my seats on these business class flights. I tried it with both the VA and SQ booking reference numbers on the respective sites.
VA's site kept telling me computer says no, and SQ kept saying SQ didn't have my email address and I had to contact VA which I did. It seems this happens so often.
The VA call centre managed to add my preferred seats to my booking and I kept a PDF copy of my amended ticket for reference.
I went to fly the outbound flights three weeks ago and SQ had removed all my reserved seats. The check in agent just shrugged his shoulders.
On arrival in Singapore there was no help offered at all for the next flights on my booking. I was told to phone VA.
I'm flying back to Oz next week and have repeatedly tried to reserve seats on both sectors on the SQ site. I can access Book The Cook and place an order but I can only request window or aisle seating.
Quite shoddy for a business class booking and it seems SQ will do what they can to make codeshare bookings as unappealing as possible.

  • Will I be eligible if departure flight is outside of dates specified, but the return is within?

  • Shame that flights are too expensive when I can travel. Good deal anyhow.

  • I think even with the 50% bonus i'd still take the Krisflyer miles directly instead - 1.55 Velocity points still only equals 1 KrisFlyer mile.

    • +1

Yes but Krisflyer miles expire after 3 years, regardless of any other activity. If you can use the miles within the 3 years, then great; otherwise, VA would be a safer bet. Also, you can credit the miles to VA, pool then together if you have a family, and then transfer out to Krisflyer when you need to redeem the miles (and if you can’t redeem through VA)

      • -1

Safer and VA should not be used in the same sentence - they could could go under at any stage again and then your points become worthless like it did the last time.

    • Same the other way, transferring either way between VFF and KF is 1.55 points to 1 point.
