    Isn't Heymix the scary brand?

    • +30

So you're saying its a fire sale 🔥

    • +6

I own a few heymix haven't caught fire yet been 2020-24 now

      • +9

I like the fact that you say yet meaning it will happen eventually

        • Yea waiting for it I just bring it to tafe and other people place/public i dont use it at home to charge my phone so not my place catch on fire it tafe or someone it does just hot

    • +1

not scary brand but fire brand

    • +1

      whats the story?

      • -1

This brand was responsible for 65% of the household fires in Australia in 2023. Now most home and content insurance companies specifically exclude it on their PDS.
Or so I was told by someone.

        • +2

geez sounds scary, tks for sharing, although without evidence it sounds more like anecdote.

        • Were you also told Santa is real?

  • I bought the generic version of this power board for 20c more on ebay, it's been serving me pretty well!

Update: holy shit they've increased in price x2, yea this is a good deal

  • +1

    Pyrophobics hate this brand

  • +2

Yes. Get a safety device from a brand with a reputation for having dodgy, unsafe internals…

  • +16

Here's a breakdown of another powerboard from them https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12996125/redir

    • +5

The "circuit breaker" is just a switch, the "surge protection" is just an LED running from the switched to the unswitched side of the "switch" there are no MOVs from what I can see

      Hoooooooly shit.

This is a must read before considering purchase.

User reviews on Amazon are largely meaningless.

They are basically "I plugged things in and they got power."

Things may work with them, however, there's no indication of what happens if there is a surge, the board is overloaded, if it's wired correctly.

The power board on the linked deal has a decent score of 4.5 but has reviews that suggest it is wired wrong 2 years after that deal was posted. There are also a few reviews mentioning it falling apart. Heymix must know about these issues yet there are no signs of any action being taken.

  • +5

Can I risk 18 devices connected to this?

    • +1

only if you jump it off another surge protected board

    • You can. Keyword being risk.

  • +5

Like others are saying, its just not worth it. Something even for double the price is so much cheaper than losing $$$ electronics or even worse, a house ($$$,$$$).
Make your own calls of course.

    • -1

Most people would make a huge profit from their insurance if their house burnt down, old house replaced with new house would be $$$,$$$ gain.

i cannot see the 20% coupon, no deal for me.

  • I think it’s all about probability. Otherwise no one will buy any kind of insurance because most of the time nothing would happen to most people.

Personally I would only buy a battery or charger or powerboard from a reliable brand with like 99.99% positive feedbacks and ideally none of the negative feedbacks is about fire or explosion or something like that. HEYMIX is a far cry from that standard judging from what has been reported in the past, and some anecdotal positive reviews can’t really move the needle much, so I’d not bother with it regardless of how cheap their stuff is. It’s just not worth it for me.

    • +2

On that note it's also like buying insurance too. No point buying it from a company which won't honour or pay out when you actually need it!

  • +3

'heymix' and 'surge protector' should probably never be used in the same sentence, downvote because of aforementioned terrible quality on similar product by them

  • HEY!

Your home just caught on fire.

    MIX!

The Last picture is a dead giveaway

  • There is still nothing as good as the old Dick Smith Surge Interceptor 8-Way Surge Board.

My last one of those is now starting to have it's power led burn out after 8 years of with very limited off time

    • Wow has it been that long?! Mine's still going strong in the AV unit.

  • No way

  • I'm gonna plug it in on the patio, put a round metal tray on the top, wait an hour then BBQ me some burgers for lunch.

  • +3

I think I've read enough to NOT buy one.

  • … 4.8A/24W shared for USB ports. The USB A ports of the Tower Power Board can peak at 12W, while the USB C ports of the Tower Power Board can provide a maximum output of 15W.

Not even a single USB-C port is powerful enough to do any kind of quick charge… And not even powerful enough to charge a Steam Deck (40W).

  • I would not buy any Heymix products. Poor built quality. They break and Jam easily, especially their travel adopters.

  • +1

Heymix has removed this product from their own website.
Their product banner for the surge power board category still has the image for the black vers. up.
Clicking on it leads to a 404 not found.

Not necessarily odious, but i'd run.
Based on their address on the website, looks like they're in Greenacre NSW for anyone that wants to ask.

  • are all "surge protectors" created equal? Want to protect my gaming consoles and possibly a gaming pc in the future

    • +2

Nope, they have different joule ratings and warranties attached. Thor is the best, followed by Belkin.

  • These things are rubbish inside. Take positive reviews with a grain of salt as they don’t have good internals. Spend the extra $10 and get something that will actually serve its purpose.

Neg for false advertising for ‘surge protection’.
