  • I’ve got the Tamron version and it basically stays on my camera.

Similar price at Teds, Georges too.

  • Looks like the got the ebay description specifics mixed up with a nikon APS-C Lens

Every day I grow more regretful buying into canon rf

    • Is it that bad?

      • It's not that bad but there's no mid tier lenses
They have the uber L line for $3k+ or entry level for $500 with something about it gimped
Like the 85mm f2 would be killer with a usm autofocus but they gave it the standard STM.
They finally licensed out the mount to sigma but they cost more BC of the licensing than what they did on ef
        $730 for the 30mm and it's $500 on sony

        • It's been a few years since I shot canon, but I recall stm being not too bad. It's a hell of a lot better than the old micro-motors that were in all the cheaper canon lenses. Is the EF-> RF adapter not very good? There's three decades of EF lenses on the used market.

Are you selling it for cheap?

  • Wow, looks good for the price

Interesting lens but this is guaranteed to have terrible resale value due to the perceived value of the brand. You could probably get this lightly used for half this price

    • Not sure why the downvotes. Look at used Samyang lens prices vs original Sony ones for similar specs. They are bad even compared to sigma which already has poor resale prices. To be fair though there is no Sony equivalent of this lens

Because this is ozbargain. We don't care about resale value as long as it's good value.

Otherwise we would avoid brands that have no meaning outside of ozbargain / have little to no name recognition, including xiaomi, Oppo, huawei and our favourite, build your dreams.

Reddit people have reported copy-to-copy variation issues with this lens. I would check the store return/exchange policy first.

Personally I would just look for a clean used copy of Tamron or just pay the extra premium for a new lens.

    • This is fair. I have two Samyang lenses and while the reviews are positive, anecdotally there seems to be quality control issues that mean some copies are poor eg decentred etc. Then again, you can have the same issue with Tamron - just saw the first comment on the YouTube clip that another guy posted below!

  • I love my Samyang 35 1.4 but was pretty annoyed when I had to send it to Korea for a possibly minor repair.

    • Oof. I assume it was outside warranty? Did you buy it from an Aussie vendor?

  • Brilliant lens and price. A goldilocks lens.

A long time ago I had used copies of the Minolta 35-105mm f3.5-4.5 and Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 and missed out on the Minolta 28-135mm f4-4.5 and they would each have significant flaws, especially autofocus accuracy.

This lens fixed it all on the right camera body whilst maintaining resolution, wide aperture and sharpness to match today’s sensors.

    Nice find OP!

  • No focus breathing compensation on these third party lenses. The function is really effective and hard to let go of Sony glass.

  • I've got the tamron version and it's great. This is $500 than the tamron so very decent lens for the price. There was some reputation and qa issues with the samyang though.

    • +1

That's why I bought the Tamron too, plus it's slightly better controlled in most respects.
