stop fat shaming this power bank

      • It's griffon the destroyer

      • It's good for the power bank. We can't have fat power banks being delusional about their size.

  • +1

is this any good? barely any reviews. scared for long term use.

    • +1

I bought one earlier this year (at full price) based on the teardown info and comments on a previous deal posting for this powerbank (see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/836987)

Seemed to work well - no issues from me - and my daughter has been using it across Europe for the past 2 months

Scared to use a $20 powerbank? No other worries in your life?

      • -1

yeah its nothing compare with get shoter while looking for a bargain

      • yes, i don't want to blow up. i bought a cheap 20k mah power bank that has swelled up, but is still working. scared to use it as i don't want it blowing up on me, lol. gave it away to a friend after warning him. he didn't mind, free is free. lol

        • +1

People die from this. Look up lithium ion fail / fire on youtube, then message your friend.

        • +2

this doesnt use those spicy pillow cells. they use 2x21700 suspected to be Samsung 50E so definitely quality. I have this powerbank, the circuitry gets quite warm during charging not sure if thats a red flag or not but I paid full price and so far its great.

        • +2

You don't want it blowing up on you and gave it away to a friend. Come on man.

          • +1

@orly: lol, i warned him and offered for free. he said yes, he is a grown man. he knows the risk, but found it to be worth it for free.

        • scared to use it as i don't want it blowing up on me,

usually battery cells do not swell because they are designed properly and allow for cooling and expansion (called vented I think). especially with the high quality Samsung 21700 cells (Samsung makes the best 21700) in the Limeta you don't have to worry about it definitely won't swell.

if you had something swell most likely it was a thin pouch lithium battery inside.

Of all the things a battery bank should have , I did not have ‘app compatibility’ on the bingo card…

    • I wish tech companies realise theres some tech I specifically don't want an app for.

I don't want an app for my guitar amp. I don't want an app for my wristwatch. Don't want an app for my powerbank.

      • +1

They app in this case is pretty handy IMO. You don't need in any way for normal use.

But for those who care, the app adds several features not on other cheap power banks. Or for some features, not even on expensive models (mostly).

80% capacity limit, power input / output display, precise charge level, turn power bank sounds on or off, have the power bank make sound to help find it.

        Pretty well done IMO.

      • I wish tech companies realise theres some tech I specifically don't want an app for.

If it adds useful features, I'm all for it.

  • Battery Power (Rated/Typical): 9506mAh/9800mAh

    Rated capacity: 6500mAh (5V/1A)

    • im confuse why such a large diff. 9800 vs 6500 ?

      • +1

Because 9506 is at 3.6V (the base chemistry of the cells) and 6500 is at 5V (what USB usually delivers, ignoring all the fast charging specs)

      • And pretty much all devices will list their battery capacity at the cell's voltage, so it's not dishonest, you're just mean to compare mAh values. e.g. Pixel phone 4400mAh, this power bank 9600 mAh, so roughly two full charges. (In reality, a bit less due to inefficiencies.)

  • interesting but i have one pwbank already and that is enough

    • +4

      Rookie numbers

    • yes smart. actually I have two. one small 13000mAh and one large 40000mAh (Kings 12Ah powerpack) for tablet and emergency's.

haven't ever thought I needed any more. I bought good 13000mAh with Panasonic 18650 cells and I take care of it so still working after 2.5 years.

  • 10,000 is too weak. 20,000 if you really want usb C charging

    • +3

That depends on how you use your power bank.

20,000mAh would be rather heavy and bulky to carry while out and about if all you need is to top up your phone while you're out. Theres no point carrying the extra weight and bulk if you don't need the extra capacity.

      • exactly, I have a 20k zmi and also this limeta 10k. I would never carry the 20k out when I would only ever need 1 potential top up in a day. Not worth the size and weight

    • sure, but bulky and depending on what you are trying to charge. phone vs laptop.

      • i need 200,000,000mAh to charge my tesla….

        • when you get to that level I read in forums users Solar battery suggestion was buying Electric car for $60k with 70kWh battery and using it as house battery instead of Solar battery $15k for 10kwh.

  • +1

This is an excellent powerbank. App has good features e.g. limiting to 80% capacity for longevity, ability to check charge and discharge rates. Has UPS function, perfect for security cameras and RPis. I like the form factor, it's thick but compact for 10000mah I would say.

    • Thanks for the info — I saw that one of the user reviews said you can't see the charging status without using the app, is that true? The powerbank doesn't have indicator lights to tell you roughly how much charge is left?

      • +1

        It has indicator lights

        • Thank you for confirming, that makes sense.

  • Bought 1 instead of waiting for more iniu bargains. Lots of comments here claiming it is highly featured. Had to buy a USB C to USB micro cable though, haven't found any in the bin.

  • I just need a small slim powerbank for my electric heated scarf. Everything is a brick nowadays and the smaller stuff costs more…

    • Link to the scarf please??? Interesting

      • +1

Uh… I bought this in 2018 in China. I didn't know that they are widely available on amazon now. One on discount - brand of mine is Flexwarm and I have multiple of their heated items.

        https://www.amazon.com.au/Flexwarm-Rechargable-Versatile-Int…

        • Dang, wish I knew about this scarf while my Prime subscription is still active. Into my wishlist it goes!

          • @anonym: Buy one for yourself and another one for yourself when it inevitably gets yoinked by a family member. I also got the heated vest and jacket, but it doesn't seem like they sell it on Amazon.

            • @ATangk: So we can wash the scraf? Really? Under water completely?

              • @CyberMurning: Yep, the jacket and vest as well. Straight in the washing machine.

              • @CyberMurning: it says to remove the mini power bank inside before washing. "Remove the mini power bank from the scarf, cover it with a protective cover, and place it directly in the washing machine for washing without any problem."

so USB-C cable inside will probably get wet and might rust over time. I think you just push the USB-C back into scarf and zip it up.

one time I was reading a confident comment from user who said "all USB-C ports are water proof" but I don't know how true that is.

not a scarf but I bought a japanese certified USB heat pad from Amazon japan. you can just stick it inside your jacket and plug it into power bank in pocket.

        this one. https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/INKO-IK07780-Wearable-Heater-i…

I can only find it on Amazon jp at the moment. I bought it from Amazon JP via Amazon AU for around $58 so shipping was free with prime, but buying from Amazon JP you have to pay shipping. it gets plenty warm (claims 50C) and on both sides. it uses efficient "ink" circuit instead of metal circuit so it's very very light weight with no magnetic radiation and it is safely flexible like a thin cloth. just don't cut it with scissors or something sharp.
if you just plug it in and put it on a table it won't feel very warm. it's meant to be used within layers of clothing.

I just found this cheaper one from the same brand. https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/IK07693-Heating-Suede-Rosewood…
also certified and uses the same technology but it's round and only claimed 40C and I think only heats one side only. the benefit of two side heating on the expensive one is you don't have to fuss about which way you put it in your jacket.
both use 9W weirdly but the expensive one will probably heat better. that's the one I got. recommended consumption is 5V/2A.

if anything negative I think the part where cable goes into that circle plastic mount feels a bit delicate. I would be careful when you pull on it and when removing it.

as always properly dressing warm will be the first step in saving energy cost. but having this efficient heat pad near your body is also effective for that extra warmth.

another type I haven't researched yet is the cloth tube heater where you stick only your hands in. usually when you dress warm and it's cold your exposed hands are the coldest, so useful for keeping them warm while you don't use them (like watching a movie).
