  • Just booked my flights for Nov last weekend with China Eastern…sigh

    • How much is it?

      • Flying out from Melb, ~$100 cheaper, but first time flying with China Eastern and overall just nervous about it.

        • +3

Dw. Better service. Food wise, generally more salt and no fresh fruit.

Your fellow passengers are probably a bit more rotty. (Culturally different)

Just don't get lost in one of the transitting airports in the PRC.

Another way to do it is utilised one of those $5-600 return ticket into the PRC and then use it as a base to go into other parts of Asia.

  • When is the best time to book a multi-city trip for April 18-30,
    from Sydney to Tokyo
    Osaka to Sydney?

    • Probably around now, we booked PER - NRT then KIX - PER using SQ and paid $1000 each for 1 - 15 Feb. Not sure if you're going to be impacted by the tourist season pricing in April.

  • Never any school holidays overlap dates..

    • +2

I think that's on purpose. Why discount something when many will pay normal price because they have little choice in when to take a holiday with kids

      • Yeah, of course - I knew that already, what you say is entirely true. I just was having a sulky whinge :P

I need to find a private school that has holidays in the middle of the usual Vic school term dates!

        • +1

Or, leave the kids behind :)

    • Qantas had their "Japan Red Tail Sale" back in mid-June for school holiday dates over x-mas/new year 2024-25.

  • BNE $991
OOL $1,235 - just drive or Airtrain the ~1 hour to Brisbane :)

  • +5

Wouldn't call this a deal. Some flights departing Sydney is about the same, or merely 1-200$ more with JAL and ANA.

    • For anyone in Melbourne it is tho. No Direct flights at this price from anyone else.

      • To/from Australia only. :p

      • JAL flys direct. Would rather pay the extra than get f**ked over by Qantas again.

        • Yeah but from Melbourne JAL is $1,000 extra in comparison to Qantas. If it was $1,500 I would definitely go with JAL.

          • @PlaneProof: Fair call, hopefully JAL go on sale soon

            • @mattomatic: I hope so too. However, since I'm traveling in November, I'm unsure if I should book now or wait to see if JAL flights go on sale. I'm unsure if I should take the risk.

              • @PlaneProof: I personally would wait but I don't have a crystal ball. Whichever you choose November is a great time for visiting Japan.

    • You are lucky living either in Sydney or Melbourne as you are spoiled for choice with airlines but definitely not a country town like Brisbane. I pray hard to have any Japanese airlines operate from Brisbane.

  • +5

    Shit service airline

    • Is it really that bad? Can you share your experience?

      • +8

Just the stewardess all old and seems like they dont want be there attitude or dont need to be there.. just hanging on their jobs for the benefits…

        Typicall .

Try to go to with JAL or Singapore Airlines way different level of service .

        • -1

Totally agree especially about old stewardess. Not sure why, Qantas seems to be the only airline that uses oldies.

          • @runamuck: Not sure if you have flown BA, KLM and the like. All the same. No issues with oldies. In fact, many are lovely and passionate about their job.

It just Qantas in general, from arriving at the airport, overcrowded lounge, bad food, customer service/support (alack of) and of course - missed/broken luggages. Tickets always sell at a premium for a superior product.

Time has moved and alternative options are readily available.

Qantas need to focus on what they are suppose to good at - being an airline. I miss the well cooked beef cheek and creamy mash served inflight before Joyce days. That f-tart has done some irreversible (difficult to anyway) damages to QF.

One way to improve things is a policy for c-suit and direct reports to be banned in premium Econ and business cabins on work funded flights (including discounted staff tickets).

            • +3

@[Deactivated]: Nothing bad a being old or young. More like customer service is basically non existence.

I think is just the kind of attitude being sort of passed on.

Where other airlines still take customer service as a priority and getting trained for the next generation.

Is just a vibe that they kind of proud of. Shit customer service

              • @Al09: Agree.

        • Thanks for that, but unfortunately, all the JAL flights are $1,000 more expensive.

          • @PlaneProof: Just wait for it …. Hopefully something will come up i think we paid $970 for JAL around end of April .

I think I saw ANA pop up as well having sales after we booked it

            • @Al09: I saw the $1,100 JAL fare in April too but missed it. With the yen fluctuating and it being almost August, it's hard to compare. ANA isn't offering direct flights from Melbourne, so that's not an option. I'll check again near the end of this sale and decide then. Thanks!

              • +1

@PlaneProof: Oh sorry, i thought from Sydney.
But with the current yen right now is a good time to go… Its higher now then in April our dollar that is.

Oh.. i think like one of the post ANA gives free domestic flightl.
We got JAL discounted flight which well worth it then getting the shinkansen nowadays..

                So expensive

                Good luck

Come on Japan Airlines! Give us some direct flights at this price from Melbourne.

  • +1

I booked Melbourne > Osaka > Tokyo > Melbourne for $1100 via Philippines Airline (14 hours each way approx) for mid September last week, just an FYI for anyone.

    • It doesn’t stop through the Phillipines?

      • It does, layover was about 1-2 hours? Hence why it's about 14 hours (which isn't that bad)

  • $1050 return and direct for November. Pretty good, thanks op!

  • My partner and I are really wanting to pull the trigger with these but they are through these platforms we've never heard of.. I looked through a bunch of Trustpilot and other review sites and seems like Aunt Betty is the best platform out the selection (we usually book via flight centre, never had issues) Can any one share their thoughts and experiences? Smart Fares seem to have the worst reviews. Would you spend a little extra for the "Air Help" Option? Any thoughts will help !

    • Just book through the qantas website.

      • We're exploring this option now and works fine. Thanks a million!

        • No problem at all, enjoy your trip!

  • ANA just sent an email for free domestic flights on the same itinerary.

Haven’t checked prices yet but, we’re trying to fly straight to Chitose!

  • just wanted to say, THANKS!

Been stressing out over missing the previous flights for Oct - Nov and booked directly on Qantas' website.

Side note - these dates seem to be further than the sale period. Ive just booked return from 18 Nov - 18 Dec for $1049, when the sale period is until 10th of Dec, just in case anyone was not booking based on dates!

  • Any reason why I'm not seeing these prices with the links? e.g. Melb to Tokyo appears to be around $1,500 on the site for 11-25 Nov. @IWantThatFlight

  • I think it has expired :(
Any chance we can get it extended?
