Cost Effective Dyson V7 Replacement Battery Choice

5 years old V7, battery gone

  • Option 1:

Dyson Original with 2 years Warranty - $120, too expensive for a 5 years old V7

  • Option 2:

Replacement Battery, I heard they won't last long? between a few weeks to 1 year?

-2.1
Buy From Ebay, $41, https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/166643485522, 8000mAh (triple the Dyson original battery capacity) , 10 years warranty, lots of people bought, how can they honor 2 years warranty?

-2.2
Buy From Amazon or Bunnings Marketplace, Similar pricing to Ebay, but less capacity, will Amazon and Bunnings local store honor the 1 year warranty if seller quit/refused?

https://www.bunnings.com.au/elaso-replacement-battery-for-dy… $55, 2000mAh

https://www.amazon.com.au/Wodeuibr-V7-Unavailable%EF%BC%81/d… $43, 4000mAH

Question:

  • Can I still use Dyson power adapter to charge Ozito battery? If yes, I just only buy the battery

  • Ozito only 18V, Dyson is rated 21.6V, can I still use the Dyson Max function?

  • Is Ozito 2.5ah = 2500mAh > Dyson's original battery 2000mAh

Which option will you choose

    ebay
    replacement battery
    warranty

actually was kind of recently discussed in this thread here

10 years.. mate that shop prob lucky if they last 2 years let alone 5-10. Plus that long surely any reasonable person would put it to dead cells?

    Which option will you choose

If you have ozito batteries anyway might as well give it a go. At least not over volting it. Have to wonder what longer run times than intended with stock batteries may cause to vaccum motor. I've always wondered how difficult bunnings would be with battery warranty.

Ive got the Dyson V7 as well
bought a battery from ebay maybe 2 yars ago for about $40.
      Spec: 21.6V. 5.0AH, 108Wh.
      Brand: Vanson

      MY ADVICE
      Dont believe the extra capacity.
if Dyson could supply a battery with higher capacity then they would.
So best avoided. Stick with the standard spec. And pay the standard price (save money)
But nothing wrong with ebay battery as far as I can see.

If it lasts 3 years then you are well ahead.

Argruably no such battery lasts more than 5 years.

With ebay sellers we all know many disappear after 12 months.
So pointless chasing battery with 5 or 10 year warranty and paying more.

  • Fitted a Ryobi battery adapter when the original battery died.

    Pros:
    - swap a flat battery and keep going
    - can use bigger batteries

    Cons:
    - the OEM 'power head/brush' died shortly after changing batteries. Might be unrelated, or the extra power might have burnt the motor out… a cheap amazon replacement head now works fine - but they look to be more expensive now (~$50 but I feel like I only paid $30? on sale)

    • Can you use dyson power adapter to charge the Ryobi battery?

Is the max suction working on Ryobi battery?

      • +2

No can't - if you go power tool route you charge like the power tool battery would normally be charged

        • That's right - we have a Ryobi charger next to the Dyson now, and just rotate 2 batteries through it. It's not really a problem, as with the adapter the batteries are super easy to take on/off… unlike the OEM one.

          Suction seems to be unchanged.

    That's marketplace, not Bunnings themselves…

    • bunnings honors the warranty?

Go for the Ozito battery + adapter option. The 2.5Ahr battery is suitable 18V =21V means they are 5 Li-ion cells that get charged to 4.2V each. The ozito gives a much more realistic warranty and are good quality cells. Expect you will have to take ozito battery off to charge. Or have a voltage regulated charger that stops at precisely 21V.

To maximise battery life always charge battery immediately after use ie dont leave in discharged state for long periods. Dont store batteries on charger. Many chargers float batteries at 21 V (including Ozito charges) . ( and it sounds as Dyson at 21.6V)

    • The Dyson V6, V7 and V8 batteries are 6 x 18650 cells with a nominal 3.6V per cell. (6x3.6V=21.6V). It's easy to look at a teardown video on youtube to verify this.

      The V10 battery pack has 7 x 18650 batteries and is 25.2V.
      The V11 uses 21700 cells.

  • I have a V7, bought a cheap replacement battery from eBay a few years ago and it's still going strong. Definitely a better option than the genuine Dyson one, especially with the extra battery capacity.

I did the conversion of Dyson to Ozito batteries recently.

Paid $20 for adapter off Aliexpress. The "Einhell" option is the same as Ozito. Delivered within two weeks. Installed with by unscrewing 3 screws that hold on battery, popping adapter in, redo 3 screws. Pretty easy but you can't swap back on the fly. Batteries snap on and run the vac no problem. Max mode works fine. I can't speak to excatly how many minutes of use you get from a charge (haven't run battery out and it wasn't fully charged when I put it on), but it seems to last for a good long while.

No, you cannot charge the Ozito batteries with Dyson charger. The adapter has a smooth panel where the original battery has a hole for the charger plug. You have to take the battery off and put it on the Ozito charger.

It makes the most sense to do this if you're already in the Ozito ecosystem - that is, if you have garden tools or power tools that use the batteries.

    • Cheers, had the 2.5ah ozito battery and charger already.

    • I already had one (small 2.5 amp) Ozito battery so also went this route when the Dyson wouldn't last long enough to actually vacuum our apartment (low speed on hardwood floors, high speed on carpet)

But I found the battery life of the 2.5 was similar to the old battery, so went and bought 2 x 4 amp batteries and now lasts a great long while even when using max speed for more than I used to - lasts 1.5-2 vacuums of the apartment. But one small change is I don't charge up once done for the week like we used to - I let the battery run out then swap it for the other 4 amp, and then charge the one that's flat.

    • Very interesting. Seriously considering this even with a good battery.

  • I'd absolutely go the tool battery route. My Bosch batteries work great with my V8.

  • Like others have said the battery adapters are a cheap easy way to go. Go with whatever you have most of. We have Ryobi. SOOO much better than the original. Downside is it still smashes the batteries, quick and quicker over time. Dyson's are the killer of batteries.

Personally I would not go Ozito but only because of the recent number of their batteries I've seen reported burning houses down. So far, I haven't heard of a Ryobi, Makita or other large brand doing the same (doesn't mean they haven't though!)

only because of the recent number of their batteries I've seen reported burning houses down

Do you have a link for that? I'd be interested to see if Ozito is a major problem.

I've done a quick search and have only come across one case where the owner attributes it to an Ozito battery.

  • I’ve whacked on a 12Ah Milwaukee battery on my olddddd v6. She chooches for hours now!
