I bought a pair of refurbed WH-1000XM4 headphones from Sony off eBay a few months ago and they're basically perfect. No sign of use.

These pop really badly when using noise cancelling on the bus. Well documented on Reddit.

    • +3

I use these pretty much exclusively on the bus, I haven't noticed such issues in the year I've been using them daily.

      • +1

It is somewhat dependent on the bus and road - a combination of large windows and bumpy roads create a poor environment for the noise cancelling to deal with.

    • Is this an issue that's solved on the xm5's or other headphones with noise cancelling? Or is this unique to this headset?

      • I have the XM5s - no issues with pops or crackles.

    • +1

XM2 - no popping noticed at all for the past 6 years of using them.
XM5 - no popping noticed at all for the past 1.5 years of using them.

just don't sweat in them, they will die and produce extremely loud ear piercing tones

  • Anyone know how the anc and sound quality compare to the WH-CH720Ns?
Bought the 720N and was pretty disappointed with the sound quality and anc. My linkbuds s anc and sound quality seem much better compared to but i wanted something with longer battery life and less intrusive.

  • I have the xm3 and xm4. Mum has the xm5. They are all terrible compared to the moment 3 and 4.

Just my 2 cents, not trying to discourage anyone. I just encourage you to try the momentums or watch reviews before you buy these.

    • I've had Momentum 3 for a few years, bought and returned XM4 (muddy as hell) and currently own XM5 and would disagree with you. The XM5 is very sorted and sounds quite good, much better than the XM4 and the EQ works very well, but I use the Bright setting for these and the WF-1000XM5, which sound even better than the WH version.

The Momentum 3 has a very different sound signature, with better sub bass and overall less compressed sound than the XM4/5, with terrible battery life (much better in the current model) and and are a lot less featured.

These days I just use the Momentums for occasional movie watching and they're great for that, with the XM5 as my daily drivers, mostly because their great mic quality for calls (they have a bug though, where people you talk to can hear themselves) and light weight.

For reference, I also own B&O H95 (not suitable to be a daily driver due to terrible build quality) and Focal Bathys (they make me look like Princess Leia and the mic quality is not as good as the XM5 despite the price difference), among others. Plus a number of high-end open and closed back headphones, including 2022 Focal Utopia.

ANC is not that important for me, but the XM5 is in a league of their own regardless of the price.

    • Think the Sony's have always been about their superior ANC than anything else.

      • Nah, that's Bose

        • Have both, Sony's always surpassed Bose purely on the ANC. Bose is way more comfy tho.

          • @BargainKen: Agreed. My point is that it's Bose that never really had that much going for it, except ANC (and , yes, comfort).

  • Out of stock.

  • I keep missing these!! ffs
