@BoltThrower will this fit in your prison wallet?

I don’t use this enough to justify the price I paid for it but damn if there isn’t something so nice about the user experience of the pencil.

Just a quick run down, there are 4 versions of Apple Pencil

    • 1st Gen - released in 2015
    • 2nd Gen - released in 2018
    • USB-C - released in 2023
    • Pro - released in 2024

There are compatibility requirements, not the later the better: https://support.apple.com/en-au/108937

  • USB-C version is also the same slightly discounted to $117 on Amazon if you follow the link in OPs deal post. Not sure if that’s a deal or not, but an FYI

will wait for pencil Pro Max Ultra + model

  • apart from Apple ecosystem, buttons near the nib and being able to charge on the iPad, is there really $100-200 difference between these and a generic pencil off Amazon. I bought some of the $20 ones and they're fantastic?

Pressure sensitivity (essential if you use it for drawing), attaching magnetically to the iPad, wireless charging directly off the iPad

      • +1

Third parties can charge wirelessly and attach magnetically nowadays. I got this one recently and it works great.

Pressure sensitivity is the main differentiator, which will be more applicable for people drawing than say note taking. From memory not all Apple models have that feature either.

The other thing with my third party one is I have to manually wake the pen up, which doesn’t bother me given the cost saving. It will put itself to sleep eventually.

Otherwise ive had no issues such as Bluetooth connection delays or drop offs, its been solid.

Same, bought similar and since were scribblers not graphic designers they work flawlessly. Two taps on the top and its going.

Can appreciate those in design would love the Pro pencil with all the additional features though….just not for us.

        • thanks.. just got the "newer model" (3rd gen) of this one with $11 off voucher.. much better than spending $100 more than the Apple branded one. lol

price match at TGG, take the targeted $30 off + 2 x $20 store credits and a more realistic price of $69 :)

    • Juicy $69 😋

    • The same to me, $37 final price.

My local bad guys always has a different excuse each time I go - can’t find stock in back room, can’t price match, under cost price, can’t use any vouchers with price match, can’t use vouchers with discounted items.

I wonder if my local is a franchise.

    • excellent, did this same thing - over the phone they wouldnt do, but instore no issues

  • Which pencil do people recommend for the last gen iPad Pro?

    • Pro

    • +2

As an FYI, if you're buying the Apple branded pencils (not a knock off), they aren't cross compatible - you have to buy what works with your iPad. For the latest iPad Pro, that's the Pencil Pro.

    • If you want to Draw, one of Apples ones with pressure sensitivity.

If you are writing/annotating only, strongly consider a third party one such as this. Connects magnetically, charges wirelessly but you have to manually turn it on and there’s no pressure detection.

Edit: just check that the pen supports the latest Gen iPad, as mines 2 gens behind. If not, look at equivalent third party ones.

  • @adamm12 May I ask how to get store credit for TGG ?

    • Hey, not sure how you get them really, I've purchased several things from good guys in the last year and they keep sending me these credits, same with the $30 SMS.

      • Thank you :)

    • Hi @LeoS How is the precision and if there any lag when using? Just need some advice on its precision and response when using.

I only need something for my 7 year old so can't justify paying 130+ for a fancy Apple branded pen. thanks mate!

  • This is back again at the same price for those who missed out previously
