I recently bought these in a bundle from Jaben with an amplifier for $338 - this is a far lower price than I've ever seen before. If you're a bass-head like me then you'll LOVE these things; I have the 80ohm version, they are supremely comfortable and seal out quite a lot of sound without being quite as hot to wear as other closed cans. Bass is extraordinary - they can be very neutral but you can wind the bass up so much that it's actually too much, first time I've ever had that with headphones. German made, has 1/4" and 1/8" jacks included.

Please note in the title that only the 80 Ohm edition is that cheap, the 250 Ohm edition is another $60.
Here's a useful guide in determining the differences between the different Beyers (770-990) and in the different impedance forms (60 Ohm, 250 Ohm Pro, 250 Ohm Premium, 600 Ohm, etc)

Excellent link Eivad, I wish I'd seen that when doing my research; don't know how I missed that summary view (I spent a fair bit of time going through Head-fi). I think I'd still have gone for the 770Pro 80's though, they suit my enviornment well; may get 990's one day too….
good pickup; have amended the title. Normally they're the same price so I didn't see this. A side note - you really need an amp even for the 80ohm imho, my ipod's with 30mw/channel can't really push these enough.
Great headphone. I have ordered mine in the past from Amazon but found to have some fault. Amazon direct me to contact BeyerDynamic Germany and they have assisted me with warranty work in Australia with no fuss.
I have these, better then senheiser, beats, and any other headphones i have heard. I think the sticker on my box is over $400
I can accept 'better than beats'
'better than sennheiser' is a bit of a big call, don't you think? Maybe what you mean is that it sounds better than sennheisers on the same price range, ie HD558, HD598, etc. Imo the Senns 598 and 600s have less bass, greater soundstage (due to being open) and much more focussed mids than these headphones.
'better than sennheiser' is a bit odd, there are some very high end sennheiser which are fabulous, but their lower end gear is quite horrendous in comparsion.
I think he's referring to value.
You can't find anything as good as this for $188 in the Senny range.
I love my Beyer cans, they are great quality. Also a big +1 for their warranty process, I bought mine from a US store and had an issue with a loose connector - contacted Beyerdynamic and they referred me to their authorised repairer in Melbourne, sent them off and got them back in under 2 weeks. Very impressed!
Someone in another thread recently recommended the Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO to me.
http://www.globalsound.com.au/beyerdynamic-dt-990-pro-austra…
Are these better?
Take a look at this thread: http://www.head-fi.org/t/513393/guide-sonic-differences-betw…
In summary, the 770s are closed cups that produce a more balanced sound (note: not neutral, but balanced) - good well-rounder.
The 990s are open cups that emphasise treble and bass a little more to produce more of a "fun" sound - probably better for action movies and FPS gaming.
You're doing the Lords work Eivad.
I tried ordering these DT990Pro's (as well) through Global Sound Trade above. They first told me that "they're shipping tonight" the day after I ordered and then several days later they claim that the shipping information was on the invoice (this was after they took my money on the day of the order) but there was no shipping information to be found. After more running around in circles they suddenly cancelled the order on me and claiming to have refunded the money and that "they're on backorder for quite some time". Their main order page (above) still lists them as available; I don't trust this vendor at all, I just hope I get my refund so I can try to find them somewhere else. Anyone else know where I can find DT990Pro's? I want them for a different application to my 770Pro's.
bought. didn't have time to check around for prices (looks like $160 before shipping is the lowest they've been on amazon), but iv'e been meaning to get a pair of these forever, so i bit…
Just checked amazon uk, they have the dt990pro 250ohm for $219 delivered, amazon us won't deliver.
They also have the dt770 80ohm and 250ohm for about 10-20 quid less.Yagz, where abouts on Amazon.co.uk did you find this price for the 990 Pro 250ohm series? I can't find them for under $224AUD without delivery on the site…. I'm keen to look into those based on the sound profile people are speaking of here.
Unfortunately, there is no real reason to buy these instead of DT880s.
bass. and closed vs (semi) open.
Yes, that was exactly my point.
I mean, maybe if you are buying them for the office or something where open or semis aren't going to cut it (in which case, these are going to be a weird choice anyways). But that aside, I cant see why anyone interested in owning decent cans wants a high class set of Beats by Dre.
Strokes for folks, I guess.
- some people like bass.
- some people don't want to annoy others with sound leakage.
- some people want better isolation.
what exactly are these, if not reasons why one WOULD be interested in owning these??? (if these things are important to you)
i don't see your point (aside from sneering at anyone who has a different sound signature preference than you).
jjfc they're quite different to the 880's in that they're closed (the 880's are open) and these are much bassier than the 880's; I don't have the 880's to compare but the review sites say that they're rather different in focus, these have noise mitigation (passive) and the 880's have none really. These suited me much more as they do more bass and I am in a very noisy environment - the aircon units from nearby buildings produce a lot of noise when I have my balcony open, these cut most of that out. I am really loving them personally…..
Bought the 80 Ohms version.
These are great value at $188, the difference between the 80 and 250 Ohms version doesn't warrant $60 and a 4 week wait.
also I've read that you absolutely need a good amplifier for the 250's, they can't be driven by more regular or portable gear. I am using a little valve amplifier with the 80ohm and it's a great balance; I'm seriously thinking of getting another set of these for the bedroom too, just have to get a 2nd amp now (!).
you can't unplug them and take them into the bedroom…?
either way, i would buy something different personally…just for the variety/contrast (different sound signature for different application) and/or different functionality (more/less portable, easier to drive, open vs closed, etc).
unless you REALLY love the DT-770's!
I need less isolation in there as my bedroom is sealed (no opening windows) but I really love the sound signature of these things; they can produce enormous bass but you don't HAVE to do that if you don't want to… these would be my first choice consideration for that use actually. Comfort wise the only pair I've compared them to in that bracket is the Dr Dre Studio Pro (their top-end) - those cans don't go completely over the ear, they touch parts of my ear (which the 770's don't) which is a big plus for the 770s. Also at this price the 770's are 1/2 or 1/3 the price of the Dr Dre's, I didn't get a chance to listen to those things (just put them on my head in a JB Hifi store) but the 770's have ticked all the audio boxes I've asked them to tick; just a personal opinion but I really like them. Their velvet padding solution is an interesting and effective approach to reducing the heat/sweat that you get with vinyl pads too.
well you could get darth beyers! aha (if you wanna spend the coin)
or denon d2000's? could be a good option if you want something similar, but also a bit different. (and probably better, a lot would say).
that's what i would probably get if i was going to keep going down the same path. but i think, depending how i like the DT-770's, i might opt for something either more portable (back to HD-25-II's again, or sony xb-500's even) or something open (just for something different).
(but realistically, i'll still want heaps of bass, so will probably get D2000's or darth beyers! aha)
Are you sure the Denon's have the same level of bass as the DT770Pro's? I didn't look at the price of the Darths, I was scared that my monitor couldn't display that many zeros or people would think I was shopping for an -actual- Death Star.
i don't think as much bass quantity, but apparently a bit tighter (and extend a bit further/more sub-bass?). from memory, they're pretty well regarded.
I did read about those but I thought they were in a completely different price league - around 4-5 times the price at least, not entirely sure….
They typically go for $299, not 4-5 times the price.
$228.00 Inc. GST. was $299.00
gone up in price?probably not the ones I was thinking of then, the pair I was looking at were closer to $1000-US?
i think chuneeperformance was talking about the DT-770 deal…they seem to have gone up.
in terms of the denons, you were probably looking at D7000, which are closer to $1000.
i haven't really looked much into the D5000 and D7000, but i believe D5000 has less bass quantity, but "better" more controlled bass. and i assume the D7000 would follow suit (less bass, more controlled).
so yeah, i'm pretty sure D2000 would be the one with the most bass (quantity), and most comparable to the DT-770.
i'll have to look into them more seriously, but they are probably ones i'll be researching when i get the desire to buy new headphones!
They are sweet headphones, upgraded from HD-25's much cleaner top end.
