Cheap Vs Expensive Dishwasher

Keen to know what’s the difference between cheap and expensive dishwasher?

I’m confused if to go with a $600-$700 Westinghouse or $1k Bosch. 🤦🏻‍♂️

What I’m considering is - Westinghouse WSF6606XA. It's $748 + 3 years of care would be +$120

Or I am thinking to spend another $361 ($1109 for series 4) and get a Bosch + 3 years plan would be $160 again.

And if Bosch then what would be the selling point apart from the name?

Not keen with LG or Samsung or FP or keen to spend a lot, hence was looking something cheap (Westinghouse or similar)

Definitely not Miele 💰😹

  • Keen to know what’s the difference between cheap and expensive dishwasher?

One costs a lot more than the other.

JV , “you’ve done it again”.

I found that the counter top (half size) Kogan one I bought before I move to my new rental apartment, works much better than the bosch one in the apartment.

    I guess YMMV.

I’ve had a sterling dishwasher for the last seven years , the only trouble it ever gave was an inlet water fault code . Fixed that myself and it’s still running….,

      Fixed that myself

Unkinked the inlet hose that you accidentally kinked during installation?

      • +2

No , grease buildup where the water inlet comes into the dishwasher , where the filter sits.

  • is there any dishwashers with light inside?
i used to have a old dishlex which had a light In it from 30 years ago

    • Top line Siemens and Miele, no doubt there are others

I was given a brand new kogan dishwasher that I fixed by replacing the inlet valve/hose. It was okay and lasted 4 years until it died. It washed okay.

I replaced it with a second hand everdure brand dishwasher i bought off market place for $70.

The everdure washes so much better than the kogan. And better than the LG which the kogan replaced.

Bosch makes Serie 2, 4, 6, 8. Pay more money, get more features and less noise. Why hate on Miele?

    • Miele is too Expensive 😅

Low-end Miele freestander $1,449, you'll find an ex-display model at their outlet for less. Not dissimilar to Bosch Series 4 & 6

        • Thanks

I got an older Miele and the interface is so easy, so few buttons and indicators. Mate has some new one that was included when he bought apartment and it's so complicated, he doesn't even know what all the options do after years of owning it. You should look at YouTube videos of whatever one you're thinking of buying, see what people who actually use it say about how easy or hard it is to use. You want it to be so easy that you're not the only person who knows how to use it.

Take this as you want but my parents have a $800~ Westinghouse that is 6yrs old, doesn't clean properly half the time and has recently become stupidly noisy.
My place came with a dishwasher (so it's 11yrs old) that is the cheapest/shittest you can get, 1 button on/off and no brand logos to be seen and it's never missed a beat since I've had it

    • 😅

  • I got this same model recently and not all that impressed with it.

    Pros:

    • You can set it to wash just the top, just the bottom, or both shelves.
    • It has a cycle timer so you know how long it will take
    • easy mechanism to raise/lower top shelf
    • has an option for a 30 minute wash cycle, but it does not dry. May come in handy for some people

    Cons
    - The bottom shelf is just a bit all over the place with its layout and the 3 baskets it comes with just seem to sit in there loose. I just use one basket for cutlery and leave the others out now.
    - I use the sides of the top shelf for cups but they dont sit nicely due to the slope of the shelf. not sure why it is so steep because it only works well for short cups.
    - On a standard setting it does not dry the dishes as well as my old one but you can set it to heat longer if you want.
    - 15 place settings sounds great however I think they just make you stack closer together to fit it all in so the dishes don't wash as well. I don't believe the internal space is any bigger comparted to a 13 place settings but I could be wrong.
    - The inlet hose was not long enough for our dishwasher provision so I had to install a makeshift extension. No big deal but for some people it may mean delayed installation if they need to go to hardware store. Also note this has the electronics in the inlet hose to allow for separate top and bottom washing.

      You mean, Bosch?

      • sorry, no the Westinghouse WSF6606XA

  • +2

Some of the units come out of the same factories.

Wasn't there a guess here that IKEA dishwashers are made by Bosch?

In Europe (when I lived in the UK 2010s) it was well known some of the cheaper lines of the named brands are actually made by the same OEM manufacturers. Probably last 80% as long but 50% of the price.

Try a Beko dishwasher when they're on sale - great specs and mine washes very well. Also offer 5 year warranty. Look at Ikea too.

Also, one thing i recommend to check before buying is how your dinner plates fit into the machine. In my old house i had a electrolux dishwasher. My maxwell&williams standard dinmer plates would hit the water swirly thing. So if i was stacking the washer then those plates would have to go "around the edge ". My current washer has a movable second shelf(up and down), so now not an issue

  • The difference is how quiet they are and how well they clean. From my experience the best brand is AEG.
