Perhaps not the cheapest Cold Brew Coffee Maker ever but this is the best price so far for this on Amazon according to the camels. It is highly regarded and I've always wanted to try it. I don't know if you can get it outside of Amazon yet. I can't find any places that sell this, some places sell the compact one though.

It does look like you need to buy filters and I think you only get 10 in the box. You can get replacement filters from Amazon, 50 for maybe $12 or so. It's currently $18.98 for 50 now though.

Has anyone used this before?

  • The Hario cold brew jugs are about half the price of this.

    • I have one of those. I want to try this.

Reminds me of the first time I ordered a coffee in a Singapore hawker's - Uncle was using a bucket and an old pantyhose as the filter, then he proceeded to dispense it into a little plastic bag with a straw.

I thought I was on one of those hidden camera shows.

Based on the images provided in the product page, I'm seriously struggling to see any real value in this item. Literally all it does is house coffee grounds and water that a day later you tip out. What am I missing??

  • Hario switch brews amazing hot coffee, and.. seems to do the same thing as this? Just smaller I..suppose.. and a lot cheaper

    • I don't think hario switch is designed to make cold brew, you aren't supposed to steep it as long (overnight)

      • I've done it with mine in the fridge but cold brew kinda sucks compared to an iced pour over

        • cold brew kinda sucks compared to an iced pour over

I think that depends on your tastes.

If you generally drink pour over and lighter roast espresso, you will most likely prefer iced pour over.

If you generally drink medium-dark espresso and don't drink pour over, you may prefer cold brew.

  • How long do the filters last?

    • +1

      Still on my original
Probably only use once every three months now but for 3-4 years used once every two weeks

      • Description I read says it has an inbuilt mesh filter + disposable paper filters. Do you just run the mesh filter?

This is the best of the cheap end Coldbrew devices
I have had mine 7 years (according to the FB picture that came up yesterday)
Makes a liquor that was good for a range of things, low acid, smooth

    • That's awesome. Really looking forward to making a batch.

I mainly use the bodum cold brew maker which is a 1.5L french press. Just grab a large french press from kmart.

$12 Kmart coffee jug works well

I have something similar. Make the brew (water + coarsely ground coffee beans into mesh filter for 12-24hrs).

When the brew is ready, pour into another jug, remove mesh coffee filter and rinse coffee jug, pour through a paper filter back into rinsed jug, done.

I actually only filter half of the brew through a paper filter and pour the other half straight in.

I use these paper filters with my $10 pour-over dripper

Dont bother with the meah filter. Just use the jug and make sure the grounds are wet and have room to steep for 12-24 hours. If you dont disturb the brew too much you wont get much sediments from most of your coffee. Just experiment and see what works for you.

    • Ok. It does sound like you don't really need to use it. We'll see how we go.

  • I'm not a fan of these cold brew machines that steep the beans. I find it makes the brew far too acidic.

I switched to cold brew drip machines and never looked back. I have a Bruer (do not recommend), a dripster (recommend) and a cheap Chinese dripster-clone machine from eBay (same as the Dripster, half the price)

  • Daiso have dirt cheap coffee filters for flat bottom and conical pour-over over devices, $3.30 a packet of 90.
They also have a little metal pour-over jug for $12 that has surprisingly good flow control.
Then I'd recommend a Hario V60 to use with the conical filters, they're only about $10, or try out one of the cheap $3.30 Melitta style plastic filters from Daiso, they're a bit janky and the filters don't quite fit properly in the clear one, but I've had some really good results with some beans.

PS. if you get the unbleached filters they'll need solid rinse before brewing, I'd recommend the white bleached ones.

    • I already have all of that. I just want to try this to see if it makes a difference.
