Got a single and a king single for my kids beds last time they were on sale. Both kids have been pretty happy with them and they seem comfortable whenever i've been on them. Can't comment on how long they will hold up for as I've only had them a few months. But so far, pretty good for the price.

      • Thanks for the response. Yeah I wouldn't expect it to be amazing for the price. Looking for a kid's bed so not a great deal of weight on it. Thanks!

        • Amazing for a kids bed, mine love theirs!

      • +2

don't think my parents ever asked what my mattresses were actually like. Lucky kids haha

        • Inner spring?! Luxury!

    • +2

Decent for the price, in reality they run a little smaller than full size mattresses so keep that in mind in case the user is tall!

      • Really? - sheets fit the same in my experience?

        • King single fitted sheets definitely bigger than the mattress, larger than expected gap to end of frame too. Not a huge deal but was still a bit surprising at the time.

      • I bought a single size three years ago and it is regular size, no problem with sheets

    • +1

Very good, pocket spring design, around medium firmness, can always add a topper if you like it softer.

Beats spending thousands and having them sink after a few years. Buy this and just throw em out after a few years if they go to $hit

    • Ok for kids, not ok if you are over 80kgs. Sinks deep on the sides.

    • +1

Got one for my 4yo son and I keep falling asleep in it putting him to bed. It’s comfy. I don’t know how long it will last, but I’m willing to take that risk for the price.

    • Needs a good 18-24 months to offgas that PU foam smell.

Reasonable quality for the price though.

dragging a big ass king size mattress, fully expanded, through the car park, knocking over several children/ grandmas in the process

Yeah..it just didnt do it for me aye I'd like a refund

Aldi Clerk: where the hell are we going to store this???

  • Ideally package,

good luck putting it back to the package ;)

I purchased a Duchess Queen size mattress from Amazon a few weeks ago. Also a spring and memory foam mattress, comes in a box etc. Great mattress for the price. It's 26cm deep, the ALDI one doesn't specify, but looks thinner.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CCXJBJ4V?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_p…

    $279 vs Aldi's $269, but it's delivered, and often has a 10% coupon applicable.

    • It's 26cm deep, the ALDI one doesn't specify, but looks thinner

On the Aldi queen size mattress, it gives it's dimensions as 2.03m(L) x 1.52m(W) x 25cm(H)

I have on these, pretty comfy. Downside is that there is basically no edge protection that stuff sinks real quick.

  • +1

got one last time for my daughter, 3yo. i think comfy for kids, for adults, just ok for this price, due to adult body weight heavier, and the mattress are slightly feel empty fropm my point of view.

  • -1

Can I really put it into my pocket?

  • +1

Got a queen of these in little ones room in case we need to sleep there with him. (2 years old). Must say for the price not bad at all. Not sure to sleep all the time on one of these. Perfect for spare room or kids room. For adults probably not the best but would be OK using with a topper, then I probably recommend for adults.

How much do you hate your back? 1-10

    • What would you recommend? I've had a Sleeping Duck for about 6 years and to be honest, it's nothing special.

  • +2

Big +1 for the price, seriously cheap for the quality. My only things of note is it seems to be slightly smaller than a standard queen sized mattress, maybe an inch or two, enough to show a small bit of the frame slats, but its never been an issue for me, and secondly the edges are soft as all get out, there is zero structural rigidity in the edges so if you commonly sit on the edge of the bed this will annoy you, but a week or two into ownership we forgot about it almost entirely. We are however long its been since they last had these, not a full year but maybe over 6 months, someone can probably verify. Cannot report any back problems or issues.

    • Thats a good idea as a spare mattress in the kids room. Was going to get a foldable mattress for easy storage. But this looks to be more comfortable.

How do these compare to prison grade mattresses?

    • +1

      less stains

    • +4

      The Aldi mattresses are consensual.

    • They don't light up under UV light!

Is there a point to your ramblings?

brother ewww. you're preaching on deaf ears. we're cheapskates here.

    • Price reflecting quality is a reasonable rule of thumb for many markets. It depends how exploitable the target audience is and exactly what they think they're buying. There's really only two exceptions right? People getting ripped off, and people who want the price to be over-inflated because it gives a degree of exclusivity and communicates things to others about how valuable we think we are.

This is a website for people who understand price vs quality, and wait until things are priced correctly before we buy.

      • +1

I have found that "Price reflecting quality" depends a lot on the product.
For example, most physical retailers sell clothes & mattresses for several times more that the manufacturing cost.
In the case of mattresses this is partially due to the massive floor space required & low sales volume meaning they need to make massive margins.
This issue is exacerbated by the manufacturers allowing each retailer to give their own unique name to the mattress making it impossible to price compare.

        • +1

Yeah I think clothes are something people have a good grasp on. If K-Mart can do a decent quality t-shirt for $10, including overheads and profit, adding the word "Supreme" to it shouldn't make it cost $240. If you buy that you know you're not paying for quality, but you are getting what you paid for. Your ego is being exploited, not your ignorance.

I think mattresses are in the rip off category. People don't have a good grasp on what a mattress should cost, and what you should be getting if you pay more than the "home brand" price.

I don't think Supreme buyers would be very upset if they found out the t-shirt cost $5 to make, but the $2500 mattress buyer would be quite upset if they found out the mattress cost the exact same to make as a $500 mattress, and the extra $2000 is entirely markup.

    • Are you in the ‘West’?

  • if i don't like these how do i return to aldi?

    • +2

Leave it at their front door. I’m sure one of the homeless people living outside would be very grateful.

    • Trailer or forget about it if it's from double and up

Like we used to do in the 80s. Get three mates, throw it on the roof of your car, one arm out each window holding on to it, and keep it under 110.

      1. Buy something long but cheap from Bunnings.
      2. Get complimentary ute hire
      3. Use ute to return mattress to Aldi
      4. Return ute and purchase to Bunnings.

Get vacuum clothes bag to reverse the process

  • Anyone able to comment on the firmness?

    • I've slept on one of these on the floor as a temp bed and found it overly firm, however on slates it might be a different story. Generally box mattresses come medium-firm to firm.

      • Mine on slats is softer than my Ikea latex mattress it replaced, if that means anything.

    • The single I have is medium/soft

    • Medium imo

      • is this what the young people refer to as 'mid'?

        • I dont understand anything young ppl say…

Are these the same as the zzz atelier ones from a few years ago?

    • zzz atelier are still around:
      https://www.ebay.com.au/str/zzzatelieroutlet
There seems to be a lot more of this type of mattress available nowadays on Amazon, Ebay, Bunnings marketplace, etc
Its a shame someone does setup a store in a cheap suburb to allow you to try these out.
I guess the issue is they would have to add extra cost to cover overheads & some people would then just buy online.

  • no support

    • I guess no roll mattress can have edge support

  • +1

I bet half the people complaining about lack of support or bad for your back are typing this with their neck at a right angle looking at their phone or laptop screen lol.

I've tried various mattresses over the years, all $1k+, think $2.5k is the most I've paid.

The whole mattress industry is deliberately opaque so you can't shop around on quality or price because no one stocks the same mattress. Warranty is no sign of quality either as 10 year warranties have so many conditions on them (like indentations to 50mm is considered normal wear and tear) they're practically worthless!

Buy something like this and if you don't like it at least you haven't blown a stupid amount of money on it!

  • -1

Out of topic, how to get rid off old mattress?

      • Facebook marketplace (depending on condition)
      • Local council hard rubbish collection
      • Trailer to the tip
      • Some charities really need these & will often collect.

        • -1

Maybe the RSPCA. Charities refuse donated mattresses because the trash costs around $40 each to dispose of. They won't even consider it

    • +2

      marketplace

Don’t list it as free, you won’t get any where. Make it a psy op. list it at something like $40.

Then when they say what’s the best you can do, you say $10, or 2 loose darts and that room temp Carlton mid that’s been rolling around their 96 commodore since 2012.

  • Could it be like this Bunnings one with a different name?
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/giselle-bedding-32cm-euro-top-po…

    • Don't think so - doesn't have a topper like that!

      • Pocket spring mattress featuring a memory foam comfort layer and plush Euro top design
