  • Less whole oats now use to be 12% then 10 now 8% .not worth it .

I don't really care how many oats are in it, it tastes good and is reasonably healthy which is good enough for me.

Was out of stock at Coburg North today unfortunately though.

Most others are at 10%, but with over 3 times the sugar.

I don't buy it for the oats personally, I buy it for the texture and flavour, and for how well it works in coffee.

I tried this last week, was on sale at woolies. IMO it sits somewhere between the top tier milks (oatly, califia, sanitarium barista, etc.) and the yucky ones - passable but not preferred. Great price though.

Oatly has over 5x the sugar compared to this one. A 200ml for a flat white will give you 9.6g of sugar. Sweet.

    • If you're focus was on the % of whole oats, then shouldn't you just buy a bag of whole oats? Works out much cheaper.

Otherwise, why do you care what the % is?

Why the hell is sunflower oil now in all the milk alternatives?!? Its so hard to find one without it.

It needs an oil to give it texture and to help foam. Seed oils have relatively little flavour so they don't compete with the mildness of oats. Unfortunately most seed oils are extracted using hexane and are generally shit.

      • i bought oatley and tried using it for a coffee. i found that sometimes the oil splits out of it which was pretty offputting

        • They all need to be shaken before pouring, though I don't recall having tried Oatley.

          • @bargainshooter: I dont do anything fancy. i just shake it up then microwave it for a short burst and that was enough for the oil to come out :(

        • I use a machine to froth the milk and the oil keeps sticking to the bottom of the milk container which is a double whammy.
Recently bought 24L vitasoy soy milky off prime day sales (no added oil). Still some hope.

Sure is hard, plus one that has fewer additives and higher oat content than this one. I've settled on Califia which now uses rapeseed oil (still a veg oil). But your best bet is probably the Oatly organics with just water, oats, sea salt.

      • Rapeseed oil is unfortunately canola oil. But it gets a bit more confusing
"to be called canola oil, it must contain an erucic acid (which is harmful to your health in high amounts) level of 2% or less and meet internationally regulated standards. Otherwise, it will be labeled as “rapeseed oil.” However, most varieties in grocery stores are canola oil".
        https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/rapeseed-oil#processing…

Also if not clearly stated, rapeseed is extracted using hexane, a petroleum based solvent.

    • Oatly organic doesn't appear to use any oils… https://www.coles.com.au/product/oatly-organic-oat-milk-1l-3…

      • The only problem is the $6 price tag

Of course this happens after I buy 3 boxes worth from Amazon during Prime Day…

    • Same here :(

    • I got vitasoy soy milky for approx 1.20 each on prime day (S&S; cash back) wonder if oats is generally more expensive
