  • 50xx announcement in November/December?

    • +5

Rumours suggesting it's been pushed to q1 next year…

      • +9

Would most likely just be high end 5080 and 5090 as well

      • Rumours so far are just about the product launch, not the announcement.

        • +1

last time nvidia did an announcement announcing there would be an announcement [not joking]

          • @Sinnerator: Jensen knows the way…

          • @Sinnerator: I am aware, remember there was a lot of chatter about NVIDIA then due to the crypto crash, inventory channel concerns due to that dip, and the gaming community wanting new tech.

There'll be similar commentary this time, but it will pertain to balancing AI-related wafer demand with a release schedule for consumer products. NVIDIA won't wait forever because their ecosystem needs kids and hobbyists playing around with this hardware to continue to have customers for enterprise in the future.

But they're balancing that with immediate revenue and any competition, who are also balancing the same choices. At this stage it seems NVIDIA and Intel are going back and forth about pre-Christmas releases.

So rumours are saying,it was meant to be a November launch, but require all Fab capacity for blackwell AI chip processing,so have pushed their run of the RTX models out.

      It makes sense

They can make more selling AI chips in a month, than they get an entire quarter from gaming sales

They have no need to release

4090 obiliterates AMD options, their software stack is better.

AMD has no viable competitor to their flagship,so they have no need to release right now

You mostlikely get 5070 ti in stock at decent price in 2026.

      • How much $?

        • Don't know depending on how greedy nvidia and the scalpers. Before 2026keep dreaming getting 5070ti at this price.

  • +3

I have the Gigabyte model.. it cranks.

The "silent" switch is great as well.. so much quieter than my old 3070.

  • hodl or not

    • hodl IMO, though the latest rumour is 50 series in Jan which is still some ways out. They're going to get even cheaper in the lead up to that

    • +1

I say go for it, even if the 50xx series does come out before end of year it'll only be the 5080 & 5090, and I don't think you'll see the xx70 and below dropping much further in price until later next year when the full stack of 50's actually hit shelves.

Now is a great time to get into the "lower-priced" refresh of the 40 series if you're on a budget and want the latest and greatest. If you just want the best of the best then hodl until 5090 and get that at the eye watering price it'll release at.

Make sure you have the skills or experience to open up this bad boy and redo the thermal paste early on in its life.

    • For this card specifically or the 4070ti super in general?

    • +3

agreed. if it was me, id use a thermal grizzly kryosheet and forget about it forever

      https://www.thermal-grizzly.com/en/kryosheet/s-tg-ks-25-25

(make sure you get the right size, i've linked the one that fits the 4070ti)

      • for anyone thinking abotu using the Kryosheet please pay attention to this line:

        Attention: Electrically conductive! Follow instructions!

      • Do you know if it voids your warranty if you change the paste / use one of these kryosheets?

        • I have an ASUS TUF 4080 and on one of the screws I had to remove was a small sticker covering it that I assume voids warranty once removed (not that that means much with ASUS lol) so yeah, pretty sure it does.

          • @jk82: That's annoying… so you risk losing 3 year warranty. What if something goes wrong with the card?

            • @abe465: It means your warranty is void.

But more to the point - the hotspot hitting 110c with the fans going 100% is "acceptable" because the GPU temperature is still sitting at 74c. So you can't claim warranty for that and won't get a refund / replacement.

It's not damaging the card as it will thermal throttle. It just means your card will sound like a jet engine unless you either replace the paste or lower your power draw so it doesn't get so hot (at the cost of losing performance).

              • @jk82: So better to probably use the stock paste until the hotspot is getting too hot, so you can confirm it is stable / no other issues, and then replace the thermal paste once you're comfortable the card is ok.

                • @abe465: Yeah well you might not need to ever replace it. But there's more and more reports of it happening is all.

I definitely wouldn't do it if it doesn't need to be done, mine was fine for about 11 months before it started happening and this is the route I decided to take.

It's just something to be aware of when buying a 40xx series card is all.

                  • @jk82: Makes sense, appreciate your time responding to my queries

  • This or a 7900xtx?

    • I believe this one is faster overall (especially with ray tracing) and has more features (DLSS with frame gen and others). More expensive too.

    • This if you care about raytracing. or hodl for rx 8000 which is said to have better RT performance. We can only hope AMD continues to be cheaper by nvidia then.

  • Apparently we will see a AMD refresh soon.

  • I got offered a 7900xtx for 1k. So I don’t know if I should wait and save some money and buy my friends 7900xtx

    • +1

Sounds like an awesome deal. more than 30% off msrp.
nvidia still wins with 1% lows and RT; whether you value that for $200 plus brand new, only you can answer.

    • +1

That sounds fantastic assuming it's almost as good as new. It'll eat anything you throw at it

  • Can someone explain how it's Tax Time in late July?

    • Because it is GST included.

    • I assume they mean spending your potential* tax return

  • I thought 4080 super is a better card?

    • +3

      Yes, also more expensive.

  • Inno3d 4070 Super for $872 is a good price too.

  • Hmmmm the Gigabyte might be a nice upgrade from my 3060ti
