How do these compare to Aliex ones? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005955604253.html

    • Thanks! I'll grab it from AliExpress

You can get these for far less on Ali

This doesn’t seem that cheap. You can buy a Tamiya Side Cutter for $25 on Amazon.

    https://amzn.asia/d/04U3HO1X

Tamiya is a premium Japanese hobby brand. So I don’t think this cutter is low quality.

You can also buy some God Hands, which is an ultra lux nipper for $22, which lots of people rave about.

Both of the nippers you linked are the lowest tier nippers for each brand, and because of their brand, they're very overpriced for basic nippers.

The GodHand nippers that everyone raves about is actually the GodHand SPN-120, which the Ruitool nipper in this post is based on. It's a single-blade nipper that is intended for the 2nd/final cut, and as its price shows (north of $90 on Amazon), it's a completely different animal to the nippers you linked.

Like @daniesaurs above, you can get the same for half the price on aliexpress.

I recently pick the purple Ruitool nippers up and can vouch for them being an excellent tool.

I have a set of Mineshima D-25 for removal from the sprue and Zoukei-Mura Pro-Zetzu Precision Nipper for hard to reach places.
I did have a pair of the Dspiae 3.0 single bladed nippers for final cuts but they chipped after about 2 kits worth of cutting.

The purple Ruitools cut just as well as the Dspiae but are much cheaper, afraid I can't comment on how they compare to Godhands but the Dspiae are regularly talked about being comparable to GH in modelling forums.

  • I would probably go with Knipex ones personally - $33 atm but have been down to low 20s

    • This is everything wrong with OzB these days - you put your personal opinion and other options out there and you get downvoted. But they are to ignorant to leave a comment debating your opinions.

The Tamiya 74035 that you linked is a dual-blade nipper, while the Ruitool one this post is about is a single-blade nipper. I have this Tamiya one, and it's a fantastic all-purpose nipper. If you're just going to use one nipper for model building, I'd highly recommend it. Especially when it's $30-odd.

I also currently have a couple other nippers including the famed GodHand SPN-120 (the king of single-blade nippers), and my favored combo is the Tamiya 74035 for cutting parts off the sprue, followed by the GodHand SPN-120 for cutting the remaining excess/gates off the actual parts. For cutting clear parts, I solely use the Tamiya. Clear parts are harder than regular parts, and therefore have the potential to damage single-blade nippers.

Compared to single-blade nippers, dual-blade nippers are thicker and more robust, but leave slightly more nub marks on parts. Single-blade nippers have a very thin cutting blade/edge. They provide a cleaner cut, but can be prone to breaking if used incorrectly or accidentally dropped.

  • My Lindstrom Swedish side cutters for electronics cost $100 …. with tools, if it gives you enjoyment while using them (hobbyist), or it makes your work easier (trades person) you will probably pay a premium for the right tool rather than cheapest way to get a task done.

Ozbargain is about getting "specific" item cheap, not necessarily a category, we see this with watches, wine and may other discretionary bargain items vs essentials.

    • But you can get the EXACT SAME product at half the price elsewhere! We aren't discussing different products.

      Only difference is the storefront.
