New Job No Payslips - Applying for Credit Card

Hello! I'm a regular CC churner who has recently taken an employment break.

I'm starting a new job and was keen to apply for next card (still holding onto two current ones because I didn't know when I would be able to apply again). I have my new job contract and a long credit history but no payslips.

Does anyone have any experience in a similar situation and if it's worthwhile applying during this time or will the kickback hurt me? Otherwise I would wait 3 months for when I have at least 3 payslips. If it matters, I have no debt, MITB and the salary is $100k+

Thanks in advance!

  • Just ask at the bank?

    • thanks but they never give away their credit card lending requirements (e.g. they never give the reason for a rejection even when asked) so I can't imagine they would be able to advise…

      • You can ask a basic question like 'is there any point in applying for a credit card before I have three months of pay slips'

In my experiences you'd have to wait. Banks are annoying with this stuff and have knocked me back for similar (just moving address was enough for them to deny me as I hadn't lived long enough at the new one). Banks are weird as hell when it comes to the criteria.

  • New job or no job? :p

    • Break between starting the new job

  • Do you even need to present payslips? I thought credit agencies just got permission to log into your bank accounts to see what was happening.

You can just use last 2 years tax return notice of assessment instead. I know Westpac is the one bank that will not accept this and instead require bank statements.

    • True but when OP answers the questions on current employment and how long in this job, it will adversely affect the score card and may drop the score enough to decline the application

      • You could just use the years worked in your past job to answer the question. In my experience they’ve never asked to verify this nor have they ever called my employer.

Common scenario. Happened to me 3 months ago in-between jobs. Wait it out brutha.

I'd be inclined to wait until you have the history - as a declined card application may prevent you getting one easily in the future… devo for a cc churner.

Companies are legally required to give you payslips, so ask HR how to get them.

    • HR said they legally cannot provide them.

OP hasn’t started yet so how can they give out a payslip?

    • Maybe read more than just the title before commenting lol

      • " but no payslips." is what I was replying to.
