*bought one of these when it was on sale once for $89.40 on 12 December 2023… so this price aint far off…

one of the most easy to use, versatile and smart measuring devices I've ever used. great for DIY, renovations, art and crafts, sewing, all kinds of stuff, anything you can think of… there is a small margin of error to take into account ±3 mm, isn't too bad for me… feels and looks really high quality.. its a genius device that does what most others can't… i love that it comes with 3 attachments that allow you to do other things than just 1.measure laser distance (up to 20m):

  1. Line Adapter- Easily Create Straight Lines. Capable of horizontal and vertical levelling to easily align objects. Ideal Uses Include Hanging straight shelves, coat hooks, pictures, and other objects. (havent had a chance to use this much)

  2. Wheel Adapter- Measure Uneven Surfaces. Able to measure straight, curved and uneven surfaces on freestanding objects. Measures
Straight and curved lines up to 20m. Ideal Uses Include Measuring walls, fabric and cord lengths and wood for furniture. (has a roller ball attachment you can roll over surfaces bumpy or whatever and it'll give you a digital reading for length, pretty cool)

  3. Tape Adapter- Determine Circumference. Precisely measure the circumference of an object. Measures Straight and curved lines up to 1.5 m. Ideal Uses Include
Measuring the dimensions of picture frames, fabric sizes and furniture. (has a flexible thin tape that you can pull out of it that digitally measures how much tape you have pulled out, so you can measure around curves etc and gives you a digital reading)

Plug in most of the attachments and it feels like your getting a whole new tool! its pretty smart and cool… i like it anyways…

It can also do a bunch of smart calculations for you like measure Area (first you get a length reading, and then your next reading will be width etc) etc.

( No attachments which most won't need anyways )

    • Does not include the adaptors

yea i seen that one, didnt post because attachments are nice.. but yea i guess if you dont want attachments would be good standalone, thanks for sharing

    • +1

Only 20m range though. If using for home renos, then need the attachments.

  • +6

Probably a good deal for someone using it on a daily basis. But unless you use it for a weekly or at least monthly basis, I personally find it hard to justify buying something that you only use once in a while, if at all, for less than 50% discount.

    • +1

good point and tip, very true

    • Any recommendation on something for to use once in awhile?

      • +1

20m tape measure, soft tape measure, level, measuring wheel, a pencil or marker for marking/writing measurements, and use your phone/calculator for calculations… can get most of these dirt cheap at Bunnings.. if you don't do this stuff often

      • +1

Just bought the ozito one from Bunnings for my wife. She's happy with it.

        • nice, that'll do it^^

Feels like something they really could've made rechargable by V3.

    • +9

this item i think battery is good.. worst things is when you spend money on this item and the battery is sealed inside it and it keeps running out of charge after a few years… annoying having to plug it in all the time to recharge because battery has degraded… i havent had to change battery yet… i think it drains the battery slowly

      • +4

Totally. Everything should use AA or AAA batteries by design (like except the obvious, eg. cars, phones and handheld game consoles). Even the dualshock should be AA

      • That's a fair point. In my opinion the best things companies can do is make devices that are rechargable but have replaceable 18650 cells built in. That'd be the dream world for me!

Perfect for measuring NYC commercial real estate.

    • lol

      Or even Sydney.

    Nice one op.
I wanted one of these, a stud.finder and a thermal camera to detect heat leaks in the home.

I'm still to find a good thermal camera.

    • +1

yea want a good thermal camera too eventually one day, and decent gas leak detector and hehe.. soo much out there to choose from hehe.. hopefully we can find a good deal on some one day hehe ^^P

      • +1

Lots of choice indeed. I don't have gas anymore so that's a blessing! (in a way).
Nothing of the sort had ever been posted on ozbargain, so a bit strange!

        • hmm true yea.. my mum swears by her gas cooktop though.. says its better than electric hehe.. only thing in the house that still runs off gas.. hehe.. have a big gas bottle they drop off to her every couple months.. hehe

          • +1

@JURBA: Yep, I agree. I love and miss gas for cooking. But, you get used to these things in life. A compromise. I have a Westinghouse now, instead of a $100 cooktop from a cheapskate landlord, so it's much more bearable.

Tape measure and the sqm formula
    length x width = m2 .. .. no batteries needed :/

    • exactly hehe, if this product is out of your budget, or you won't use it much.. then basic tools are the way to go ^^

  • +1

i tried several cheaper laser measures up to Bosh.
And was frustrated with the +-3mm.
This ended up being less consistent than measuring with a tape.

So in desperation, I bit the bullet and went for HILTI. And finally got consistency and reliability I was happy with (for general carpentry)

I'm not saying its for everyone, just wanted to note that +-3mm is achievable with a $30 Xiaomi laser measure, but shaving another 2mm off that dispersion is 10 -20X the price 🫤

It is a bit more expensive, but in general you can get it for less than rrp if you have a previous relationship with HILTI.

    • dam that hilti is a beast! thanks for the tips

      • lol nice

  • Does this one support the app that can draw up a house plan for you if you take enough measurements?

    • no idea bro, first time i heard of that hehe sounds cool though

      • +1

Last time I looked into these there was green and a blue range similar to their power tools, and higher end ones supported the app. Like others have mentioned a lot of these things can be done manually and on the cheap, but making a plan of a house automatically was the killer feature for me

        • very cool i gotta look into that
