    i have one its great
no point paying for the sub, it gives you nothing special

    • How responsive is it? I've got the Swann. By the time I answer on phone, delivery driver is long gone. More than 15 sec delay every single time.

      • +1

        Few seconds delay for me

      • +2

I get notifications almost instantly (1-3 secs) when I walk out the door. This includes wake up time.
I have found doorbell press to be very responsive.

      • +1

        Maybe 1-2 sec delay.
        I don’t really count it
Goes ding, app pushes notification and I walk to the door.

I only have the camera setup when someone hits the door bell

        • Sorry I was referring to answering on the phone when I'm not home.
Swann is pretty quick as door bell. But when I answer on phone, it is very late to initiate two way communication.

        • @Wiadro would you please confirm that there is no thumbnail (image) accompanied with the doorbell notification, unless you are subscribed to their plan.

          • +1

@N1ghthawk: correct, you get 30 days free with the thumbnail and after that, you don't get the thumbnail in the notification

            • @Wiadro: Thanks @Wiadro
I'll stick with my Orion then 👍🏽

    • +1

I've got a ring doorbell. Works good but hate paying the subscription.

Anyone know how easy it is to replace with another wired doorbell that doesn't need subscription for recorded video?

Also any recommendations for a wired doorbell?

    • -1

Agreed. Got mine in the Bunnings sale around November/December last year for around $120.

      Love it.

Perfectly fine without subscription (which was one key reason I got this one).

  • +1

Is there anywhere they sell the door bell separately? I am looking to buy tplink cameras that comes with hub…

    • Also looking for this purchase option. I have the hub already.

      • +2

Can I ask a noob question but why/what’s the point of the Tp link hub?

Like I’ve got 9 tapo cameras (5 external and 4 internal) and it’s just all added to the tapo app so why would I need a hub?

        • I have a couple of Tapo motion sensors that require the hub. The hub is also required to make the doorbell sound. I have a camera setup (temporarily) outside that triggers the hub to play the doorbell when a person is detected.

        • what’s the point of the Tp link hub

The point of the hub is to store the video footage. If you didn't have the hub, where do you expect the video clips would be saved?

I guess the other reason is battery life. The hub connects to the doorbell with a lower power wi-fi protocol compared with your home wi-fi. This lets you review video clips without any issues when away from home, because the doorbell is not involved in that process.

          • @cerealJay: Each of the tapo cameras i have has a sd memory card so it’s storage footage there. With a hub I assume it has limited storage as well too

            • @prankster: The hub has a micro sd slot as well.

I guess one reason for the hub is for external cameras which can be stolen from outside. If the storage is in the external camera, someone stealing your car or stealing packages off your front porch might knock your camera down too, so you dont have a recording of them. With recording on the hub, it doesnt matter if your cameras get taken

But it doesnt help you if they break into your house and take your hub too!

              • @caprimulgus: Yeah agree with your points. I guess the only deterrent you can do with the tapo externa cameras is put an notification to the app if anyone is trying to take it off plus the thief would have to quickly take of the screws which doesn’t take long if they are fast.

                • @prankster: The other obvious reason is the chime. Your security camera doesn't need a separate chime, but your doorbell does.

                  • @cerealJay: the D130 which is wired comes with a chime - i just dont know if i can install it lol

  • Yeah this is a good doorbell. My only frustration is it doesn't record constantly. Only movement detections. Otherwise, camera is good quality and doorbell works as it should.

    • +5

This is the trade off with battery powered cameras, if it had constant recording I'd guess it would only last a few days if that.

  • Doesn't show camera on google nest hub when bell is rung

  • How to access bunnings live chat??

  • Good deal. Just the H200 is 55 so thats 80-100 for the doorbell cam

  • Am I correct in assuming the chime in in the Hub - so you need the Hub to be centrally located to chime the house (or your mobile)?

    • I’m not 100% sure, but in the Tapo app I’m sure you can edit it to chime or notify you on your phone , I’ll be doing both. Also as long both can access WiFi doesn’t have to be that centrally located.

      • Thanks! Is the Hub connected via Wifi or ethernet - looks like ethernet to me :(

        • +3

Has to be ethernet for setup but can switch to wifi after

    • +1

Yes, the chime is in the hub

  • This or Reolink poe camera?

    • +1

This, that is if you have ok WiFi signal, also no need to fuss with Ethernet cables if it’s 180 day battery life.

  • +1

Am I right to assume this comes with the hub?

    • Yes, it comes with the hub

      • Thanks! Is the Hub connected via Wifi or ethernet - looks like ethernet to me :(

        • Both are possible

  • +1

Looks not bad but I’m liking the Eufy one at the moment.

  • I've had mine for about 6 months now. I struggle to get any where near 180 days battery life (10-20 detections a day) tried different batteries with the same result. But other than that it's pretty solid.

    • Hey man! How many days on average do you get on the batteries? TIA

      • +2

I can probably get 1.5 months if I'm lucky. You can set detection zones with AI now which helped reduce the wake up (and battery drain) to note I'm north east facing so the summer sun cooks the batteries which is another factor that drains it.

    • Your settings might be sensitive and with long clip lengths.

    • +3

I get maybe 3 months out of mine.

      • 12 detections today, which is about typical for me.

      • Motion detection = off

      • Person detection = on
      • Pet detection = off
      • Vehicle detection = off

      • Clip length 30 seconds

      • Retrigger 5 seconds

If you have a lot of movement within the viewing range, swaying plants and things, that will also drain your battery more.

  • I bought this last year around Christmas time to replace a Ring doorbell. I like it much better than the Ring.
Battery life is nowhere near 180 days - maybe if you turn all detection and notifications off. I have mine set on the lower end of the detection sensitivity, and have to charge it twice so far… its now on 59% after the second charge. Expect around 3 months from a single charge.
Note you will also need a storage card for the hub, unless you plan to pay a monthly fee to TP Link for cloud storage.

    • I was considering the Ring or this, what makes this one better than the Ring?

      • +1

        No subscription

        • Pretty much this.

This one is also very responsive compared to Ring and the detection/notification settings seem to work quite well.

This one or eufy Video Doorbell 2K Wireless with Homebase 2?
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/eufy-video-doorbell-2k-wi…

    • +3

I have the Reolink POE camera that I use with an NVR and love it, ethernet is much more reliable than wifi and being powered over ethernet means 1 cable, trade off is you also need a switch with POE and either be able to or pay someone to run a cable for you, I did it myself and already had POE switch and spare ethernet cable so didn't cost me any extra. But the camera is great, good quality image/video, has SD card slot for local recording, can be used with a proper NVR or you can use it with a software NVR.

    • +1

Pretty happy with Eufy. It works with Alexa and they sent me a replacement when it died after about 20 months even though it was 1 year warranty

  • +1

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/857090
Is this a good SD card to use with this? 128GB

    • +1

I use those in my other Tapo cameras. Should be fine for this too, assuming you arent getting some obscene amount of motion activations going on (ie. have it facing a busy street, or you run a 24 hour brothel / crack den!).

      • +1

Thank you! Might have to just disable the auto record during popular business hours (1am-5am)

      • Windering how long would 128gb last before being filled up you think?

        • +1

Will depend on the recording quality and amount of detections - but my Tapo C210 that faces the street, and probably has a similar amount of activations as a front door camera would, has used 16.5Gb in 3.5 months.

If you google the recording specs, it should give you a rough amount of hours that a 128Gb card would hold for thia camera. And just divide it by an estimated number of recordings per day. Wild ballpark, we probably get 5-10 detections per day, of 1 to 2 minutes (but mostly closer to 1min).

(Or better to ask someone with this doorbell camera specifically to ask how quickly they fill up their card.)

        • +1

I have about a dozen detections per day, and a 30 sec max clip length.

I've used 11GB since the start of the year.

          • @ferguson: Thanks Capri and Ferguson, gives me a broad idea.

128 should be fine for my needs to grabbed the sammy that srutr posted too

    • +1

I have the endurance sd memory cards mainly coz I live in corner house with medium traffic so I record 24/7 so I can see anything that happens.

For the 128gb I get a weeks worth of recording

      • Thanks prankster, does it just overwrite the oldest recordings / Purge automatically or once it runs out of space you have to manually delete the old recordings?

        • Does it automatically, I think its “loop recording”

  • +1

Does this ‘ring’ your doorbell like the arlo ones do? Not just a normal notification

  • +5

Don't forget 15% cashback on CR for Home Improvement category

    • That's actually better priced and Amazon too.

    • Is there a way to check what category a product falls under?

      • It's under product specifications if anyone's interested.

      • +2

On the product details page, it's usually the category shown on the top left in bold, just under the menu bar and at the beginning of the list of categories.

  • How does this compare with eufy 2k doorbell?
    Any feedback please.

    • Would like to know too, as their functionalities seem quite the same. Just the price points are different

  • Is the hub coming with it will work with other tapo gadgets like smart button and thermometer? Or do.you have to get another hub for them?

  • +1

I got this off Amazon AU last week and it comes with a UK plug on the transformer which powers the hub. Very disappointed they can sell that here without disclaiming it in the description. Couldn’t see it written anywhere. Returning it now.

How do people secure this door bell? It seems too easy to get stolen.

  • How about the wuuk, even cheaper than eufy and does essentially the same thing albeit at a lower resolution:

Limited-time deal for Prime Members: WUUK 2K Video Doorbell Camera, Wireless Door Bell Battery Powered, Security Doorbell Camera with Base Station, No Subscription, Built-in 32GB Storage, Triple Motion Detection, Compatible with Alexa https://amzn.asia/d/0geqGlG5

  • I'm not buying the 180 days battery life
I'm thinking about the reolink doorbell.
Want license plate and face recognition.
Then that can be further used for automation.

  • Is the Tapo app more responsive to view the doorbell when the button is pressed than the ring door bell app? I find there’s quite delay with ring to get to video feed?

Also can this show video feed automatically on an echo show when the door bell button is pressed like the ring does?

  • Bunnings Coburg told me “Special Orders” are not entitled to a price beat and would not honour it.

    • Yeah that’s seems suss, at least for me I jumped on the Bunnings live chat and they had no issues price beating special order. Perhaps try the live chat or office works.

  • Jb Hi-Fi live chat wouldn't price beat, I'll try OW.

OW no live chat or phone on w'ends! 😭

    • Got it from OW in store. Price matched no issue

      • I went to my local OW that had one left in stock, after doing all the rigmarole of price beating they went to find the last remaining unit. Stood there for at least 10 minutes while the staff searched but eventually come up empty. Half an hour wild goose chase.

  • Another option revealed via Google search is the vapourware Philips Video Doorbell….

Meta description of the page: "Find the perfect Philips Video doorbell".

Don't click, it's a blank page and a bad look for both Google Search and Philips.

I got good guys to price match Amazon then used the $30 off with min spend $100.

    • Is there a promotion now?

      • Targeted discount code if you are subscribed to Goodguys marketing

  • I bought Aqara door bell at same price. Not sure if I should return it and wait for this deal again. Any advice?

  • purchased, but couldn't find an easy way to integrate with HASSIO.

Had to set up the notifications to turn on/off a Tapo smart plug, and then I could use the door bell press for other actions in HASSIO.

  • Hello. Any feedback please for the doorbell? Is there lag from when people press and we received notification? Overall?

    • if you buy from Amazon there are 30-day returns.
