Travel dates: 02/02/2025 - 15/03/2025
Use the multi city option to add domestic flights. I checked Sydney/Tokyo with Tokyo/Osaka return and it came out to $1000.
Economy Return Sydney - Tokyo $999 & Free Japan Domestic Flights (Fly 2/2 - 15/3/2025) @ ANA

It is especially late march when the cherry blossoms bloom
Just before cherry blossom peak travel periods. Maybe not that busy but probably still cold.
Tokyo Marathon is 3 March so within travel dates, not easy to get entry tho.
Ooh neat. I imagine it is pretty popular to try and get entry? I would like to try it.
General entry opens in a month, depending on interest it might be a 1 in 50 chance of getting in that way. https://www.marathon.tokyo/en/participants/
@MarceI: Damn, that's crazy. Thanks for sharing.
This is gonna be perfect for the Osaka marathon.
Feb good for snow season too
It was still snowing in some part of the country when i was there in feb.
Playing around on google flights the latest I can see for around this price is leaving 14 March - returning 14 April for Tokyo, Osaka and Sapporo. Possibly other cities too.
Anything from Melbourne?
ANA doesn't fly to Melbourne. Best non-stop flights I can find are around $1200-$1300 Qantas return Tokyo for many dates during March - June
ANA don't fly directly to Melbourne. What you could do I guess is book on ANA Sydney to Tokyo return, then book a separate Melbourne to Sydney return flight - you'd need to pick up your bags if you have any check in luggage at Sydney and then re-check them in for the legs to Tokyo and coming back from Sydney to Melb though. Unfortunately, putting Melbourne as your starting point on the ANA site has the price quite expensive. As an example (using dates Feb 5 to Mar 5):
- Melb to Tokyo on ANA: $2101.04
- Syd to Tokyo on ANA: $992.46
No domestic flight costs that difference. Alternatively, go by Qantas or JAL direct from Melbourne, albeit you'd fly into Tokyo Narita, not Haneda…or if you don't mind stopovers elsewhere, go with Singapore Airlines?
I am a bit confused about how this works?
So I book say Syd to Tokyo and I need to book a separate domestic flight booking say from Tokyo to Osaka return?
How will they issue the refund?
Click on the ''Click Here to Search for Flight Tickets / Flight Awards for Multiple Cities'' link at the very bottom of the search box. Just under the blue 'Find Flights' box.
Example search:
Flight 1: Syd - Tokyo March 11
Flight 2: Osaka - Syd April 11Ah right. So the flight from Syd to osaka is covered in the same price?
Yeah that's right for flight 1 you could change it to Syd - Osaka and it'd be about the same price.
The domestic flights don't have to be on the same day. You can go to another city later in your trip e.g. spend a few days in Tokyo then go to Osaka, then back to Tokyo when you are leaving.
How many domestic flights?
Just 1 (or 1 return at least i would assume at the least).
Or can I book something like Sydney-Tokyo-Sapporo-Osaka-Fukuoka-Tokyo-Sydney and just have my in country travel basically sorted?
That'd be pretty damn nice, especially with the JR pass being so much nowadays.Just 1. I tried your itinerary over a 1 month period (Feb 5 to Mar 5, with generally 5 days to a week between each section) and it came out at just over $2000. With just Sapporo as the only domestic destination, it was just over $1000.
Damn, that'd have been a killer way to get around. Makes sense not to be the case really i suppose.
Thanks for the reply with the firsthand experience, i hate doing stuff on the phone, so was a while off trying myself.
ANA compared to Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific which were around the same price last time I checked? Obviously need to pay for domestic travel though
Service is good on all. Singapore and Cathay won't be direct of course.
If you're flying just the direct SYD-HND route then go ANA.
If you're intending to connect to elsewhere in Japan then transit in Singapore. An international connection is easier and you can just go gate to gate in Singapore, instead of immigration then baggage then customs then change terminals then check in for domestic flight. International connect also allows for a shorter layover than international to domestic.
Probably worth considering the flying time too.
Sydney-Tokyo 10 hr ish
Sydney-HK-Tokyo 9.5 + 4.5 = 14 hr
Sydney-Singapore-Tokyo 8.5 + 7.5 = 16 hrNot including transit time.
Transiting at either HKG or SIN is effectively doing a detour, unless they want to explore those cities.
You’re absolutely right about the baggage issue though, transferring to other terminals at NRT and HND isn’t fun if you have a lot of bags.
Yep that's fair, I didn't consider the detour aspect
Needing something for October 24. Might have missed the plane
Anything from Perth?
At first glance, the small thumbnail for this deal is really easily mistaken for another word.
That's a very unfortunate choice of graphic design.
Don’t be so anal about graphic design.
Is the flesh eating bacteria in japan under control?
Never been to Japan. Anything to do for 2 under 10 kids?
teamLabs, Disneyland/sea, Tokyo Joypolis. Mix in some areas like Nikko or Mt Takao to get some easy nature hikes near Tokyo. Nikko should definitely be easy enough since I ended up at the tail end of a school of primary school kids on a narrow trail. Was funny hearing a chorus of ~50 kids greeting someone as they walked by.
The disney resorts and universal studios is great
add Legoland and Ghibli park to the list.
Wow, gonna plan to visit the northern side of Japan this time. Playing around a bit and an itinerary from Sydney -> Sapporo -> Osaka -> Sydney is only 1k. I'll probably buy a 1 way ticket from Osaka to Tokyo and return from Tokyo instead. Wondering if it's worth putting Matsuyama airport in here somewhere so I can do the Shimanami Kaido route again…
Ended up going with this for $1004
Sydney-Tokyo 8/3 arrive at 20:00, Tokyo-Sapporo 9/3 depart at 6:25 (unfortunate but will need an overnight hotel to catch a few hours of sleep)
Hakodate - Osaka 13/3
Tokyo - Sydney 24/3
Not working for me.
Booking for February Sydney - Tokyo - Osaka - Sydney. Comes to over 1500 with almost 650 as the fuel surcharge?
I just tried a 2 week trip early March and it came up as $1k
1/3 - Sydney to Tokyo
9/3 - Tokyo to Osaka
14/3 - Osaka to Tokyo
15/3 - Tokyo to Sydney
I highly recommend a connecting flight to Sapporo. I can highly recommend a day trip to Otaru too if you're interested in old warehouses filled to the brim with beautiful glassware like nothing else. Plus you can work your way down the island on the trains and there's some good hot spring towns along the way.
I usually fly from Sapporo to Hakodate or Sendai though.
Lol. Or you are just trying to find something wrong? Been there many times and I have concerns both the local and tourist but I don’t care at all. Almost every country is like this, you have at least 1 or 2 either tourist or local. Visit north Korea if you want peace forever
This is a great price. I am heavily debating going but I just went for the first time this April 😂 I hope this deal comes back for 2026 some time or ig late 25
I'm trying
Syd - Tokyo
Tokyo - Osaka
Osaka - Tokyo
Tokyo - SydI can't seem to get below $1,257, going for about 3 weeks
Id rather do this instead - Syd - Tokyo,Osaka - Syd and shinkansen. (Should be around 1k plus shinkansen ticket). You "Dont" have to fly just for the sake of it.
Damn, not bad. Lucky Sydneysiders!
Melbourne please ANA. I willing for you to take Qantas slots.
mhmm, does the deal still work? mines coming up anywhere from $1200-$1800 within the date periods
Try 1/3 - 15/3 $993
ive noticed most of the $999 deals are around early march. none for mid feb unless im doing it wrong? thinking of doing a week trip with a day or two in tokyo and the rest in Sapporo, returning on the 15th, but seems like the 15th return is the most expensive, showing me $1800. do you know if there are deals like these usually later on the year?
Was hoping to go early Feb for the snow festival, but couldn't find any deals for those dates. Ended up getting mid-Feb for $1069 which wasn't too bad as it has the night flight from Sydney to Haneda with a 4 hours layover (Can also select the 1hr40min layover, but might be cutting it close with customs and transfer) to Sapporo which saves the hassle and cost about the same as staying overnight at a hotel since the majority of the flights to Sapporo are 10.5 hours layover.
The free domestic flight was also handy as I can return back to Tokyo from Hakodate instead buying the JR East-South Hokkaido pass which I did previously, but then you miss out on travelling through the Tohoku region.
16/2 Sydney - Tokyo
17/2 Tokyo - Sapporo
28/2 Hakodate - Tokyo
3/3 Tokyo - Sydney
Is feb-march a good period to travel?
