      But they have shells.

The presence or absence of a shell affects the price

I was know of a farmer in Victoria who grows Pistachios. He has a machine that automatically shells them, but it can't shell a fair percentage of them. So those more difficult to shell Pistachios are sent to China where they are hand-shelled and returned back to Bendigo, where they are packaged and sold as local produce.

    • With shells though. This one you are paying for the convenience

Eating pistachios with shells can slow down the eating process, allowing you to savor each nut more and enhancing the flavor experience.

    perfect example of over packaging…..

    • Thanks.

I'll bookmark it for the next time I require an example of this…

    • Well at least they've removed a layer of shell packaging…

Works out to more than $60/kg.

Doesn't look like a bargain to me.

    • Do you any other place that is cheaper? I have just googled and price are similar to this + shipping cost. Here at least shipping is free.

To be honest, I compared the price above to cashews, before I made my post. Wrong nut!

Apparently this isn't a bad price for pistachio kennels.

Although if their shipping prices aren't crazy, this place would probably work out cheaper for a kilogram:

        • It's still a shit price, much cheaper to de-shell and burn calories at the same time. Plus it's a proven stress reliever.

It's back to the normal price.

Go to your local veggie shop and they have it for like around $40 to $50 a kilo. Much better than this while also supporting the local small business.
Most of the major shopping centres around me have at least one veggie shop.

  • But half the fun of eating pistachios is opening that weird little shell!
