  If you're picking up one of these for a charcoal spit, I highly recommend spending a little more to get the instant read model instead. The temps of a charcoal spit mean you might struggle to handle the heat on your hand for the 5+ seconds this can take to settle on a stable reading.

    I have a gas rotisserie so i can just turn it down when i need to check it.

    I have this one and it takes about 1 second to stabilise on the current temperature.

      Not sure about your use case, but this model definitely takes a few seconds for me. That's using it to take the internal temp on very thick pieces of meat on a spit, cooking over very hot coals. The other model is never more than a second or two, if that.

      This model is still much faster than any other thermometer around that price point though. But for people that need a really quick read, they might want to spend a little more on the next model up.

    I own both models. In my use, the difference is noticeable. I'm cooking over very high heat though, so maybe that's the difference between my experience and JV with this cheaper model.

    Both are very good. I also have the Bluetooth multi-probe thermometer for my smoker, and it works great. Inkbird stuff is great for the price, especially if you get it on sale.

  Has been great to get our steaks/meat to the right done-ness.
  As above recommend a heatproof glove (Bunnings etc) if needing to hold it above the grill/pit for a bit as hand will get very toasty
