I Have Applied for Two Different Citi Credit Card, Will I Get Bonus Offer if I Don't Activate The First Card?

I have applied for and received the Citi Premier Qantas credit card. This card offers 70k Qantas bonus points upon meeting the $6k spending criteria within 3 months.($350 annual fee)

I haven’t activated my Citi Premier card yet.

Now, I have applied for the Citi Prestige card, which offers a 150k bonus Qantas points upon meeting the $7500 spending criteria within 60 days. ($750 annual fee).

I am thinking of canceling the Citi Premier card and using the Citi Prestige card instead.

Questions:

1) Do I have to pay the annual fee if I cancel the Citi Premier card without activating it?

2) Will I still get the bonus offer on the Citi Prestige card, or will they consider me an existing customer since I already applied for the Citi Premier card and have received the same 3 days ago(even though I haven’t activated it yet)?

    1) Do I have to pay the annual fee if I cancel the Citi Premier card without activating it?

What does the PDS say about cancelling after being approved?

What does the PDS say you need to have done to get the bonus points? Something along the lines of not having/being approved for a card in the last xyz months, so your other successful application would be counted even if you didn't go ahead with it at a guess.

You know 100% that you can get the points for the Citi Premier card, the Citi Prestige card is a big question mark.

    • Thanks, I checked with customer care and they confirmed that I’m eligible for the bonus offer on both the cards but now the problem is of minimum spend.
They have excluded PayAll transactions from eligible transaction towards minimum spend criteria.

you'll receive the bonus on the card you've activated and met the spending & other terms (eg: not already had a bonus offer in a certain period). if you do not activate the premier card, you won't be charged nor receive any points — throw it in the bin. once you're activated with a Citi profile (poverty website) — you click on account maintenance and select "close account" and drop the box down "no longer require product" — you'll receive an email within 48 hours confirming closure (and a physical letter will also be sent).

I had a similar situation however I took Citi points on Prestige & Velocity on Premier — this way I collected both points and just converted Citi points into Velocity at a later date. I closed the account within 30 days, having met spend, points posted & annual fee collected (no pro-rata).

Just cancel the card ASAP. You don't get charged the annual fee until the end of the billing period anyway.

There's no exclusion clause for previous bonuses for Citi cards so you'll still get the bonus.
