Laguiole Rois 24pce Cutlery Set-$49.00 in Store @ King of Knives (+$13.95 Del)-RRP$219.95

24

As part of King of Knives 1-Day sale for today only, they have the Laguiole Rois Des Couteaux 24pce Cutlery Set for $49.00 which seems like a good bargain, especially for in store pickup (online it seems to be a flat $13.95 delivered)

It says RRP$219.95, but another price reference, could be eBay @ 174.95 + 14.95 delivered also (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/190728429224?hlp=false#ht_908wt_1…)

Technically it could be considered a dupe of the KoK post (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/85612), but thought this item was a good price to have an own post to highlight…?

Just a heads up - whilst these are quite a nice set - they are of lesser quality than the Laguiole Debutant set as referenced on eBay - I would definitely question the RRP of $220 for this set.

Ignore the "$219 RRP", which is complete rubbish. A Google search reveals that King of Knives themselves owns and registered the "Laguiole Rois Des Couteaux" brand, so whatever RRP they quote is meaningless when they're the sole seller of the item: http://www.ipaustralia.com.au/applicant/king-of-knives-pty-l…

These are cheap (Chinese-made?) knockoffs of French-made Laguiole knives — hence the term "French inspired" in the King of Knives description. The knives you linked to on eBay are not the same item; they're Made in France by Andre Verdier. King of Knives copied the design, and by stating a rubbish RRP are trying to mislead people into thinking they're something which they're not.

    that is deceptive practice

These are Chinese knock offs of the French cutlery.
I bought some because I liked the colors, but they aren't very good quality.

They look pretty shabby, to be honest.

I'd rather pay a bit more and get a great set from Amazon.

We have 2 sets of the real knives and then got an extra set of the "king of knives fakes". The difference in quality is ridiculous, they aren't even in the same league. We also got a set of the forks, but they were so bad that we returned them.

  • Wow, great spot guys, it seems really subtle; thanks for the feedback! Based on your comments we ended up returning our sets, but figure can leave this post up as a warning to others :)

  • I have never trusted King of Knives just from window shopping and this proves my gut feeling. I am just don't understand why they have survived this long as these stores are usually very quiet.
