Stop Your Grinnin' And Drop your Linen!

Aliens was remastered in 4K UHD earlier this year and contains both the theatrical and special editions of the film. Features HDR and Dolby Vision support and an updated Dolby Atmos soundtrack. This is the cheapest its ever been according to CamelCamelCamel.

Reviews have been positive with improvements to the overall picture and colour grading. It is important to note that the picture has been de-grained a fair amount so film purists might be annoyed with this release.

This is the best way to get your hands on a physical copy with Disney no longer releasing physical media in Australia. Being a UK import, the standard blu-ray discs share the same region as Australia and should play without issues.

Disney can go eat a d%^*

    • Aiyo bud, I tried to message you but your account is apparently not taking any messages.

You're the last one to post the AT Sound Burger. I just caught a glimpse of an ad for it on TV. It's available now in all 3 colours for $199 from JB Hifi if you wanted to post it. Amazon yet to price-match.

All the reviews I've seen say the AI processing is overdone making the characters look waxy and causing facial details of background characters to disappear entirely at times.

    • +2

Yeah. I clicked on it because I love that movie but then thought about how disappointed I would be. No sale.

However I noticed 'Prey' was $20.55 so I bought that.

    • It's not pretty but it's still watchable. The Abyss has similar issues iirc, which sucks because along with Aliens they are two of my all-time favourite movies.

      • "It's not pretty but it's still watchable"

Imagine if they had that as a box cover quote

    • +2

It's Cameron. He f-ed up Abyss and, a few years back, Terminator 2 which is almost unwatchable.

  • Never bought it on BD so this one will have to do especially now that we won't be getting it in stores.

    Reviews have been positive

That’s an ambitious claim… one of the most controversial 4K releases out there.

Watched the 4k on itunes and it looked terrible, looked like a wax museum.

  • +4

    Game over, man! Game over!

  • +1

Its terrible. Its just an AI upscale of the Blu ray. It just doesn't look right. Everything is overly sharp and there's no hdr.

    • I can see it says Dolby Vision in the pic of the back of the box though?

      • Yeah technically it's hdr but it's no slight you can't tell the difference. It never goes above 200 nits

Alien 4K is $24.50 and believe is a very well regarded transfer without the same controversy of Aliens

    • Ta. I grabbed both movies. I'm slowly dropping streaming services and going back to sailing the high seas and physical media.

    • Alien is stunning.

      • I purchased the 4K recently but yet to watch it. Did go to an Alien screening at Dendy a month or two back and believe it may have been this same version but (it’s what prompted me to seek a 4k copy). Looked great. Movies effects hold up really well.

    • No Cameron, no wax!

  • Aliens, Abyss, Terminator… all 4K releases f-ed up with overkill de-noising. James Cameron has some serious issues with film noise.

    • +1

Yeah, I’m definitely not getting excited about the upcoming original Terminator 4K release.

    • +2

@Alx75 - You forgot to mention True Lies which is the worst of them all accept for Terminator 2 which is even worse. The 4K version of Avatar (2009) is horrible too, it’s been put through the same AI upscaling, DNR and sharpening filtering process.

  • At least it's not $60. It can't look any worse than streaming

  • James Bond collection seemed good at $57.80. But its Region A1. USA/Canada.Shame

    https://www.amazon.com.au/James-Bond-Collection-Blu-Ray-Digi…

    • I believe only one bluray disc is region locked being Quantum of Solace

      • Almost worth if thats the case. But I only really like Casino Royal and Skyfall. So I probably am better off just buying them separately.

    • Not a big fan of the Daniel Craig / James Bourne era.

  • +1

Ended up buying Alien, Aliens and Prey. Heard good things about Prey and I don't own a Blu-Ray of the others.

Buying that recent OLED TV has sent me on a bad path of buying 4K movies.

    • You won't regret buying Prey, especially at just over $20. It cost me just over $30 and the 4k version is fantastic.

  • Deal has expired, back up to normal price.

  • :) It sold out… by the way i can see a few Ebay listings - Resellers purchases heaps of these along with Prey 4k and Alien 4k

Its 100% because of Disney not selling physical media here anymore.. if you want a copy of dead pool vs wolverine you will need to buy from overseas or scalpers
