Samsung ViewFinity S90PC 27" 5K IPS 60Hz Monitor $1395 + Delivery ($0 to Metro/ C&C/ in-Store) + Card Surcharge @ Scorptec

120

The lowest price I've come across for this monitor in terms of just a straight forward purchase from a brick and mortar store. No education store deals or sending monitors in etc.

Officeworks have it listed for $2 more so technically you should be able to pricebeat.

Key Specs.

5K Resolution at 27" giving 218PPI perfect for MacOS scaling.
90W PD over Thunderbolt 4/USB-C
60hz (no its not 120hz, we would all like it to be but the bandwidth required means it's not easily achievable)
Matte coating which is the key difference between Apple Studio Display (and why I'm still on the fence)
Plays nice with Windows/Linux

Free Delivery to Metro Areas
1% surcharge for Card, AmEx, & PayPal payments.

  • Thanks mate! got one from Officeworks - price-match worked like a charm.

    • Did you price beat 5% at OW or just price match?

      • +1

        5% pricebeat - paid $1,325.25 delivered.

        • Thanks, I've just got them price beat too. Upgrading from the Samsung M8 32". Hopefully it'll be worth it.

  • Any photo or video editor has used this and the studio display can tell me the colour profile accuracy? If I had the money, I would buy the studio display no question. I have the Samsung M8 but its colour reproduction is nowhere nears Apple displays.

    • Have it side by side with an Apple Studio Display.

Prefer the Samsung - it’s brighter. The color accuracy out of the box is excellent but certainly be calibrated to whatever you need using Calman gear. I use it for Pantone work - flawless.

You can’t compare other Samsung monitors to this.

      • Do you find a noticeable difference with the sharpness especially text with the Glossy/matte?

        Thanks

The PPI is the same - the coating makes no difference to sharpness. The Samsung is noticeably brighter than the Studio Display at full throttle. I suspect Apple has set a limit to maintain the life of the panel.

  • why so expensive?

    • It's designed for 'professional/prosumer' use. Especially in the creative space where MacOS does tend to dominate.

True 5K resolution is still fairly niche with only a hand full of monitors supporting it. The only real reason 5K 'exists' at all is the 218PPI at 27" being Retina for MacOS.
This means UI scaling works correctly giving a much better viewing experience. You can also edit 4K video/photo and still have room for 'Program of choice' UI.

4K LCD monitors are mass produced with fabrication being very mature these days. So it's cheaper, relatively speaking, as you have more choice.

If solely using Windows a decent 4K monitor, whilst not as pin sharp, will be more than enough for most at the same screen size. Windows handles scaling differently and copes much better with differing resolutions.

      • I don’t think mr pinky was after an explanation.
