Good price on a FR255 if you're like everyone else and been sucked into the running cult.

Considered this vs the newer FR165 with OLED screen and decided to get the 255 for the additional training load/training status features.

If you really want the OLED touch screen get the 165 or 265 (exxy).

Black only comes in music version which is more expensive (and a distasteful pricing move by Garmin). Slate grey looks ok, probably lighter and more plastic looking than black but I'll live with it for this price.

Lowest price according to camel.

Tidal blue is $319 if you don't mind the colour.

Enjoy!

reading is difficult, please come and tell this to me in person

      • Yes, you are right.

    non music version :(

i need the music version so i don't have to bring my phone on my runs.

    • +1

yep.. no music is a hard no for me. my 245 music is good… but the battery life isnt the best compared to my old 645 music

    • +8

Honestly, just get a running belt. There are added benefits to taking a phone like in the event of an emergency.

      • +5

running in the woods yes, but im running in the city and parks where lots of people around.
just hoping they call 000 if they see me pass out. lol

      • +5

There’s a freedom of going for a run without a phone. It’s a very rare occasion we have to disconnect.

        • +2

exactly, and i love running without having to carry around extra weight that is bouncing all over the place.

    • I had a vivoactive 4, when play music at running, the battery drain very qucik, also the Bluetooth connection was not stable.

  • Waiting to see if there'll be any offer on forerunner 955

  • Too expensive for the non music version.. The 245 music was regularly on sale for around $250 previously.

  • Currently have 245 music, worth upgrading?

    • +1

      No

Edit: no major upgrade from 245 (and this is non music). Upgrade to 265 if anything which has the OLED screen

    • +1

this is 255 with no music, so its like one step forward and one step back, lol.

      • Ah sorry thought this had music too thanks for replies

    • Depends on what's important to you. I went from a fenix 6 to a epix 2, which is similar functionality upgrade.

New v4 heart rate monitor which gives a whole new load of information such as bloody oxygen level, breathing rate etc. For me it was a significant upgrade.

New daily morning report also helps to keep me in check for sleeping etc. EG: I will actively try and sleep earlier at night.

If you don't care about such things, it's a downgrade purely due to music from that perspective.

I don't listen to music anyway, even if i run for an hour or more. If i want music I'd sit at home to listen to audiophile setup (800s, clear, arya).

  • Got excited when the Tidal Blue showed up at $319 - however "no Longer available". Thanks OP - great price for a great watch. The 255 is the sweet spot in the Price/$$ equation - nearly all the sport features of the 955 MIPS/965 Amoled and Fenix (including multisports like triathlon), great battery life, and light weight.

I'm trying to be patient for a deal on the 965, but i might just pull the trigger at an eye watering $800 if one doesn't come soon

    • Wouldn't Epix2 be better?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/856799

      • Damn looks like i missed it, i would have jumped on that despite it being a bit large :/ thanks for the recommendation though

        • +1

This one goes on sale quite often.

Maybe go to a Rebel and try it out, so next time you know if you would like it.

I thought it would be large too, as I have a thin wrist, but it actually looks alright.
And it's so light that it looks like a fake display when you get it for the first time 😅

  • @mogley The deal is back! (as of 11am AEST)

  • I was looking for a good price for 255, but nothing happened under $350 in last 3 months. Instead I bought a 165 at $389, but it's too small for me, the good side is that 165 is very light, even cannot feel it when running. The reason why I didn't buy the 265, is too too expensive.

  • I know this is another watch, but how do people feel about the Huawei GT 4 for the "German Version" for the blk silicone band for 289$ AUD? or 312$ for the GV of the GT 4 with the bwn leather band?
