I'm one of those people who for yonks has used side cutters to chomp through larger cables in several munches… with prices like this one is now, time to do it proper. Knipex webpage says it will cut up to 20mm diameter. No personal experience yet!

From what I saw online, it seems to be cleaner than the stepcut shears. I don't really know though. However if it's of interest the small stepcut is only a little more at $39.55 delivered https://www.amazon.com.au/Knipex-StepCut-160-95-11/dp/B0863B…. Knipex webpage says it will cut 14mm diameter.

  • this will pay for itself in no time with sporting field lighting cables!

  • Been upgrading some stuff with Knipex, its good stuff. I could have used this a few weeks back when putting up a colorbond fence, my shitty cutters wouldn't even cut a screw in half.

  • Thanks, trigger pulled.
I also grabbed the knipex side cutters…
And the Klein tools wire stripper…
And the Wera Allen key set…
And the Wera security key set…

Trying to find a good set of ferrule crimpers. Know any?

    • 12 72 190

      • Yeah I considered that, but it only does up to 4mm dia ferrules. I was hoping to find a one hit wonder that did a larger range of ferrules.

The Victron SmarSolar MPPT 100/50 I have says to use 16mm cable, which is 5mm diameter. Good for 100+A.

        Does a 16mm cable fit into a 4mm ferrule? I don't think so.
The Ivory Ferrule is 5.8mm and takes a 16mm cable, so I need a crimper that can do up to 6mm ferrules.

        • Actually, the 12 72 190 will only do ferrules up to 4mm squared, so even smaller gauge.

        • 16mm cable will need a 16mm ferrule.
mm2 is the standard measurement for this.

If you're not doing this regularly I would borrow someone elses crimper.
