The relevant MyAMEXShop offer went up this morning (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/856555), but I really felt like this was worth it's own post.
I've had my eye on this piece for quite some time. You can't generally get it below RRP. I've gotten the occasional 10% off code for The Iconic (and checked that it worked in the app), but have never pulled the trigger. I've read the T&Cs back to front, and as far as I can tell, as long as you click through from the MyAMEXShop first, use the app, AND make a new account, AND use your linked AMEX card for payment, you should get nearly $512 back on this purchase.
(also, for those unfamiliar, this is the "special edition" Ocean Star GMT. So it comes with the stainless steel bracelet and the NATO strap in matching colourway)
Mido Ocean Star GMT $2275 ($1809.65 after My AmEx Shop App Cashback) @ Swatch via The Iconic

It’s ugly. There’s no point to having a GMT watch when you travel once a year tops. There's plenty of other things you can do with $1700.
Thank god. Crisis avoided.
Yeah but I think it would look good on you.
It’s ugly and too big 44mm is huge for most wrist sizes
I have 44mm watches that wear well on my spaghetti wrists, and 44mm watches that I can't wear because they don't sit right and look ridiculous. I've discovered that lug to lug is more important for "wearability", and this is 50mm. Which …… is still too big for me. My SRPD23K is 48.4mm and is probably my limit.
Will this watch go in value like collectible Rolex? If not then dun buy lol
I've always preceived Mido as a mid Swiss brand that are overpriced like Rados, both of which i would never personally buy. For $1700, I'd look at the Citizen 8 Series range which include GMTs, and have movements more accurate than this (assuming this have a low grade Sellita or ETA, even with an elabore or top grade, the 8 series is still more accurate from memory). Starbuy have had the 8 Series GMT on sale for $1200 a few times now, and I think they look way better than this generic Mido.
Looking through the Mido catalogue is like browsing AliExpress watches. Their design language is so wishy washy and generic.
That's why I don't get stuff like Mido, Rado, Raymond Weil and a few others. Oris gets a pass because they do some interesting things, but if I'm going to drop $3k+ I start looking at used Sinns
I agree. Citizen GMT Batman is one cool watch to have.
Do it! Be a contrarian. A regular Sub or Speedie is just SOOOOO boring OMG…
I ended up adding 3 Ocean Star/s to my collection last year by combining a shop discount, an Amex offer and some other deal/s - a Decompression Worldtimer, a Tribute and the GMT with the blue fabric strap. I love them all. Especially the Tribute - gets compliments everywhere I go from non-watch people who happen to spot my watch. Mido is very popular in Mexico (and only there for some reason) but is very underrated elsewhere. IMO it's a brand that doesn't really want to pigeonhole itself into any single segment, so then it's kinda not well known in any segment as a result. But make great "hidden gem" buys at the right price.
Not sure about the Amex deal but all the other cashbacks sites calculate the cashback pre GST.
"Credit is not available for any service charges, shipping, taxes, or additional fees."
I'll adjust it, one sec.Well then there's another reason not to buy it. The lug to lug is big and now it's even more expensive.
Gavel slams against block
Picture 5 in the ad makes me go cross eyed. WTF is up with that?
You can generally get these below RRP - Most Mido's fall into sales - Salera's often has this for 22% off.
Also, Swatch group brands have increased in price about 15 - 20% over the last 3 years, they know have 4% bi annual price hikes with half their brands mid year and the other half year end.
See it in real life if you can - I think the black dial variant is much more attractive (M026.629.11.051.01)
Alright watch guru's - I want a decent GMT daily wearer. I was looking at the Bulova Wilton blue and white faced, but would love the experts here to weight in - top 3 GMTs for daily wear - go! (And thank you in advance!)
I have my sights set on the Nodus Contrail
Oooooh…link plz. :)

Budget? Wrist size?
Also I haven't bought this yet. Someone please tell me not to. Tell me it's ugly. Tell me there's no point to having a GMT watch when you travel once a year tops. There's plenty of other things I can do with $1700.
