Ordered this airfryer before and it was honestly one of the best purchases I've made. Use it almost everyday.

I've had one of these for over 1 year now (use every 2 days) and these are so much better than the Kmart ones. Preheat function makes food crisper. I am very happy with it and it has never missed a beat.

Save $5 if you don't mind black colour. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/856500

    • Thank you for linking stranger. Gotta admit though, the silver is sexier

    • +2

Are you sure these are the same? Black one doesn't have 'Plus', and it's 4-in-1, instead of 6-in-1 in this silver model.

Thanks for pointing out the missing "Plus" in the black one, both in the text and in the graphics. Now that I have a better look, I think Amazon may have mislabelled both variants.

According to this web page, the Vortex Plus is larger in volume than the Vortex, and the two model ranges have different prices (much more than $5 difference). Amazon quotes $269 RRP for both colour variants. According to this web page, the Vortex Plus 6-in-1 looks different from the products shown on Amazon's web page.

While I find the airfryer itself to be great, I find the tray to be rubbish. Only handwash with soft sponge and the coating came off, their customer service wouldn't directly say what its made of, but sent me another one. Same thing happened. Guess I'll find out in 20 years whether it's safe to use haaa

    • Did you buy from Amazon?

      Which customer service?

      • +1

I bought from Amazon but emailed Instant Pot as I wanted to find out what the coating was

        • What do you use to clean it?

I had the same issue and it's possibly caused by wiping down with a paper towel or scrub daddy sponges.

          • @TEER3X: The soft sponges with a non scouring back. I think it's just crap, that's why it sells for $6 on their website when I last looked

  • This or any Philips alternative? Thanks

Got this air fryer from a deal earlier. It is awesome. Strongly recommend

  • what category does this fall under?

  • Can anyone recommend a good air fryer that is more the style of a mini oven?

Bought one of these last year and its been amazing. Only gripe is that the coating on the inside tray has started peeling off. We only gently would wash with a sponge. Would recommend possibly buying tray liners, otherwise amazing airfryer.

  • +3

We've had one of these for years and cannot fault it.

Because we're lazy we do tend to use a liner in it most, but not all, of the time. I'd read before we purchased it about some people having issues with the bottom of the basket peeling easily and one of the solutions I saw was that once it had cooled enough, simply fill with a bit of soapy water and let sit for a small time before wiping over.

This is literally all we have ever had to do - it never needs scrubbing and the basket and trivet are still in excellent condition after 4 or 5 years of daily use.

    • Instant Pot recommends to not soak it

"We are not sure why you have experienced this issue, as it seems you are following our use and care instructions (recommend washing by hand using soft sponge (do not use scourer) or place in top rack of dishwasher and do not use metal utensils). We also recommend that you wash the tray after it has completely cooled down and do not soak in water.

We confirm that the tray is BPA/PFOA/PTFE-free with no chemical coatings"

Can anyone tell me if they recommend this over any Phillips one?

And if Phillips is better why?

  • I've had this for 2+ years and it is brilliant

  • To those who have had problems have you used paper or silicone inserts?? I'm unsure if they work well or not?

    • +1

Been using baking paper or aluminium for mine and it still looks amazing!

    • +1

The problem with liners is the air is designed to blast down the sides and then come up the middle, and liners interfere with that. You'll still get a bunch of airflow because the fans are quite strong and the cooking chamber volume quite low, but it's down to whether the easier cleanup is worth the compromise. That said I've never tried them, because I don't find the cleanup that big a deal, and I haven't had the cooker long enough to have any issues with the basket tray

      • Thanks for the info, I decided to visit aliexpress and got a set of paper and silicone for about $6 total to test how much it will impact.

  • Wish I knew how easily the coating peeled away before getting this, but I'm not sure if other brands are better in that regard.

    Apparently $118.99 now.

    • Cheers, 5 minutes later and I got a $6 promotional credit on next purchase.

    • Just noticed this too, a real kick in the balls.

Had to sit there talking to Amazon for about 20 minutes just to get promotional credit on the difference. They tried making me return and order again but I wasn't going to waste that much time and effort for $6.

      • Just do it mate, it's a large flat white!

        • They ended up giving me a $6 promotional credit but man, it was hell. Ended up taking 30 minutes just to convince them to talk to their manager and get the okay.

Amazon customer centre is very hit-or-miss with their support reps.

  • Upon receiving it I realised that it doesn't have a quick remove basket that Philips do, making it more difficult to easily grab food after its cooked, you have to take out the whole bucket including drip tray. I would say knowing this I would pay an extra $40 to get the Philips version next time.

  • FYI for any future buyers: during the initial "burn-off" run recommended in the manual our unit emitted such an intense burning plastic smell that the kitchen fire alarm was triggered and I had to stop the run and take it outside. Before the run I had carefully washed and dried and instructed and ensured all packing material was removed from inside the unit.

Tried again with the unit now outside and still the smell was intense. No way would I eat anything cooked in this particular unit (the cold unit still stinks!) and it has been returned to Amazon. Despite all the great reviews on Amazon, it seems this burning-plastic smell is not uncommon (plenty of complaints on Reddit) and I’m interested to know if anyone else had this problem with the units from the recent Prime Day sale?
