IKEA oftast is a great alternative and will work out at $14.40 for equivalent 18 pieces

Not quite the same quality though

      • Which qualities differ?

        • Ikea breaks into a million shards of glass, Corelle may not break and of it does into a few pieces. That's my experience

          • +1

@Yabadabadoo: In our experience Corelle breaks into a gazillion pieces when it decides to go.

            Breakages are incredibly infrequent though.

            • @Geewhizz: They will chip more frequently but not break all the way through.

              • @ATangk: Are you thinking of a different product? Oftast and Corelle are both tempered glass plates, so do not chip or break easily, but can shatter.

                • +1

@bargaino: The bottom lip of the small plates keep getting chipped… don’t know why or how

        Both are made of glass

Great bowls until they shatter >< and the annoying thing is that cling wrap doesn't like to stick to it

      • What are you doing with your bowls that they are shattering?

        • Like when dropped (accidentally) on the floor. But I had a plate that dropped on my foam mat and it still shattered so that was pretty shit

      • Change cling wrap.

Mine work fine using the large hospitality type from Costco

        • Is it the green one? That's what I have lined up next. Thought Glad wrap was the best brand but I just hate it now lol

These Corelle crockery sets are great. I have the frost white and know others with the same. Would recommend.

They're so popular that they keep manufacturing them. I.e. can replenish if you break some. I'd got them from an outlet at a large discount.

      This!

The other benefit of theirs set that I’ve never heard anyone say is that they’re thin, light and therefore stack small. If you’re right on space they’re excellent because they’re not bulky

  • Great find OP! i have the square set, wish they had them for this price.

    Are they microwaveable?

    • Yes

      • Thanks.

      • Important point for me to ask - do they stay cool when microwaved? I've got some microwave-safe bowls that heat up just as much or maybe more than the food itself. I prefer other plates I have that this doesn't happen to, but don't know what the difference is?

        • It sounds like those "microwave safe" bowls aren't actually microwave safe.

I've had the same issue with some jamie oliver bowls, they are the definition of not microwave safe - the bowl heats up when it shouldn't.

  • An added bonus of this set is that it's ageless. We bought 3 sets years ago when we were feeding a big family, and gave one of them (dinner set, not family member) to a friend when we were moving away.

Over time pieces needed replacing occasionally, and were easy to replace because it's still being sold.

  • I dropped one on concrete and it did not break. Amazing.
