      I've had the mountain designs for a few weeks and I love it. I have never had an expensive one to compare it to though.
      I recently bought my (late teen) son the $50 cheapie from Aldi. It's good for the price but if I thought he was finished growing I would have returned it and stretched for another mountain design or the macpac halo.

      The reviews on the Cape version (4.7 rating out of 5 from 217 reviews) seem decent enough

      imo in the long-run, Patagonia is actually better/value and worth buying:

      • down quality = fill power: Patagonia 800 > Mountain Designs 600 > Cape 550
      • weight: Patagonia 369g > Mountain Designs 328g

      • warmth = fill power x fill weight: Patagonia > Mountain Designs

      • warranty: Patagonia lifetime > Mountain Designs lifetime (original purchaser)

        You get what you pay for here, the Patagonia does look very well thought out and built (extra pockets, repair kit etc and the better warranty).

    Are either of these different to the MacPac Halo Jacket?
    Looks like variable fill power, but they never really mention how thick they are, or what temperature they're rated for.

    Looking at the Patagonia site, the Hi-Loft Down Hoodie at 600 fp is apparently the warmer version of the down sweater at 800fp which seems somewhat backwards.
