Good price on the updated version of the popular A129.
Not sure if someone has this installed and can comment on the quality/reliability?

RS Megane
I like your taste in cars
Ms too, poor man"s Porsche right there.
Thanks!
Even after 10 years, I still grin whenever I spot my 265 among the molasses of SUVs and dual cabs that grace our carparks. Even more so today as there seem to be so few hot hatches around to admire.
Actually, the feeling might also be that of relief, that I managed one more day without someone side-swiping or backing into it. :-/
Was it hard it to install the HK4 kit?
I just did a mazda and found it a little challenging, but with time and patience I got it working fine
It took a bit of planning, but it wasn't too difficult. I removed all of the trim from the passenger side (where the fuse box is) to the rear of the car; loosely laid the cables to check length, etc. I then did a dry run with the system using the live feed on the phone app to work out the best locations for the cameras so they weren't obscured by anything, rear vision mirror, brake light, etc. The hardest part of the install was finally committing to said locations, because once that 3M adhesive is on, it's on!
You can buy fuse tap/crimps off eBay for less than 10 dollars.
Not difficult. Just make sure you tap into the correct fuses.
Just a quick question: do you need to buy 2x microSD cards for these? One for the front cam and another for the rear?
Nope just the one card, have this installed in my car
Cheers mate
Does anyone know what the difference between this and the A229 pro is?
5 seconds on google will tell you the Pro is 4K resolution and the Plus is 2K
Also 1440p at 60fps vs 4K at 30fps. Personally I prefer the high temporal resolution in a dashcam.
Sorry for asking silly question. Can I use this as action camera (walking around and film random stuff with powerbank). Buy 1 dashcam and 1 action camera then dump the action camera (not use much) sounds silly to me
Won't work very well for 'action' since the perk of action camera's are the stability functionality.
I think they generally capture at a larger resolution and then scale it down to smooth it out.
How does this compare to VIOFO A119 MINI-2? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/856384
I am debating between these two too, but the main difference for me at the moment is that this one have front and rear while the other one only have front camera.
Can buy two of the A119 for less than this one.
Can anyone confirm whether we must use the recommended Mirco SD cards or if other brands will work?
Viofo recommends the Sandisk Max endurance variant.
Others will work fine! Try stick to endurance rated cards, have run a samsung 128gb pro endurance in my cam for 3 years, going strong.
The read/writes eventually kill the regular micro sd's like the samsung evo plus. They've only lasted a year or so in mine.
Been using VIOFO dashcams for years because they're rock solid which is what you want in a dashcam.
Last model I installed a few years ago was the A129 Plus Duo which I got for about $50 less than this deal.
The two biggest downsides of the A129 are addressed with the A229: 5Ghz wifi, and much improved form factor (and resolution) of the rear cam. Very worthy upgrades.
The previous gen A129 Plus Duo is also on sale for $217.49 on Amazon.
Disappointed I missed this, was waiting to buy one for my new i30 :(
Same, but no doubt it'll come again on black friday or in an eBay special before then. Who knows, new model may be out by then and it could be even cheaper..
fuuck i missed it once again…
Oooh I can comment!
I installed an A229 Plus into my RS Megane over the summer break using the HK4 hardwire kit and the Anti-glare filter. My car is parked in full sun 5 days a week whilst at work and I've never noticed the camera to overheat or miss a recording. I'm in Perth and considering the bitch of a summer we just had, I think that's pretty good going (at least for the short time I've had it). Front camera is superbly crisp day and night while the rear camera is of average quality, but as it has to look though rear tint and heating elements, I doubt I higher resolution camera would look much better.
