AmEx Qantas Travel Credit $

For those that have signed up for an Amex Qantas card that includes the $450 credit, what do you do if you have no plans to travel but need to cancel/close the card? I didnt realise before signing up that you can't use the credit for jetstar or hotel booking.

Qantas Amex Ultimate only permits the travel credit to be spent on eligible domestic and international Qantas flights; you now have to pay for a booking >$450 and they credit $450 back to the card account.

      • I think I read somehwere that if you book a flexible (refundable) fare, then cancel, they'll return the whole amount to your card without deducting the credit either.

    • I think you used to be able to do hotels but it's now QF flights only

      • You are referring to the Amex Explorer or Platinum Edge cards. They come with travel credits that can be used for flights and hotels.

The Amex Qantas cards travel credit is usable only on Qantas flights.

  • I made plans to go interstate when I had that card. Book a random weekend away somewhere.

  • If you haven't already used the credit, you can book a flight and cancel on the same day to trigger the credit to your account as well as a refund for the flight. Basically a trick to get the credit as cash in your account. I did it and it was very easy. There is a Reddit thread about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/creditcardchurningAus/s/cavCE5iz4r
