I Want to Purchase 300 SodaStream Units - Help Please

Hi all I’m looking to purchase 300 SodaStreams for gifts.

However I’ve reached out to them via email, chat, and even tried the marketing manager on Li and no one seems to want to talk to me. Hoping to get slightly discounted so I can make it work in the budget.

Any ideas? Good Guys Commercial? Negotiating with a supplier?

Try Drinkmate, better than sodastream, carbonates all liquids.
Maybe they will do a discount?

    • Thank you! I’ll take a look!

Can drinkmate be modded to support the larger and considerably cheaper CO2 cylinders?

      • +1

There is no modification needed… works exactly the same when connecting to DrinkMate.
I run a 3kg CO2 bottle with screw in adapter…. (not the Sodastream Twist Pink Quick connect)

      LIke converting plonk to bubbly?

    Try a retailer.

Sodaking is an alternative Australian brand that doesn’t help support sodastream’s origin.

    • What is wrong with Sodaking to get all the negative votes?

      • +9

I think it is to do with Sodastream being an Israeli company. Though from what I gather, they seem to be one of the few who genuinely tried to work across the divide, employing Palestinians with equal wages until the government made that untenable.

      • +3

The problem was they had a factory in the occupied West Bank. But they closed that in 2015! (a lot of Palestinians lost much needed jobs)
So there is no longer any real reason to boycott them, except antisemitism.

It’s just people trying to cancel Israel at every chance they get.

I personally didn’t buy Sodaking because it went into administration last year and the Sodastream Terra went on sale for around $73 at coles recently.

Sodaking looks closer to being within budget too! Will try them!

The neg button is the defacto button for "I disagree with you but can't be bothered/am too timid to write a response".

      • -1

Or it’s a “I don’t like what you said and I’m scared of change” or “that doesn’t align with my current confirmation bias/erroneous knowledge and I don’t like learning” button.

        • +4

Maybe its the "yeah, nah I smell BS" button.

    300 ?!

      I am Spartacus!

That was King Leonidas of Sparta.

Spartacus had nothing to do with Sparta.

    • yeah I’m on budget cut backs 😂

I should have clarified it’s for my work in case that makes a difference, it’s just my problem to solve atm.

My friend got one of these from their employer, chances are it'll be in the bin within 12 months. Why not go with something like a prezzee gift card that will be enjoyed more and will be far easier on you?

        • yea I wouldnt even take it home

        • We did a trial of 10, 18 months ago and they were super well received. I don’t think our audience would be into prezee. We’ve trialled shouta and none of them used it.

    • This. Is. Soda.

Could try Costco.. saw them for $100 ish the other day, not sure if they’ll discount if buying in bulk

Or yeah, contact Good Guys Commercial

Distribution channels are complicated. Sodastream probably isn't supplying retailers directly. They'll probably use a 3PL (3rd party logistics, eg Synnex) company to handle local distribution. Retailers like JB Hifi might purchase their stock through a buying group (NARTA) who will negotiate with the 3PL company. There's all sorts of discounts/bonuses/warranty details negotiated out in between.

Front line staff might not understand this, so they've fobbed you off.

What does this mean for you? I couldn't figure out who the Australian distributor of SodaStream is (nothing on google). In any case, it's unlikely a distributor will be interested in your business if it's a one-off 300 unit sale ($30k worth). You could potentially lie about how much you might buy from them to get access to purchase directly, but this might be damaging for your employer.

This leaves you with retail channels - David Jones, Good Guys Commercial, etc. Best option is to negotiate with them. As an example, a promotion run by a beer company giving our bluetooth speakers was fulfilled by JB Hifi Commercial. I guess that was a few thousand units. Imagine the hassle for the beer company if one of the customers wanted to make a warranty claim - much easier to direct them back to the JB hifi retail network.

    • That’s helpful insight. Good guys commercial seems to have best pricing for sodastream but sodaking also looks good, and would mean we can include some syrups

I'm not sure who you're gifting and why but the optics of giving someone a sodaking instead of a sodastream aren't great. They may functionally be the same product but it's the equivalent of gifting someone a yPhone instead of an iPhone.

edit: didn't see someone else made the same comment below.

        • Helpful to hear it twice though because it shows it’s widespread reputation rather than just one person’s opinion

that's a lot of money to not drink free water

    • And a lot of landfill for all the people already owning a SodaStream or simply not wanting one… JMO

      • If you have one, sell it.. or regift at christmas

People will be disappointed if they win a Soda-King vs Sodastream. It’s like giving Jerry Seinfeld the works of Bette Midler.

    • Really? Maybe I need to buy one of each in our budget to confirm what I’d recommend.

      • +2

There’s nothing wrong with Soda King I guess, I just don’t think they’re as main stream as SS and sorta are like the poor cousins. SK probably works just as well etc.

      • +2

Sodaking has been in administration since 2023. I’d pay the extra for soda stream just for your business image.

Additionally I bought some of the sodaking bottles and the straighter bottles seem to lose carbonation quicker than my soda stream bottles which are flute shaped.

Just give your employees the cash, this is literally insane
