Anbernic RG Cube Handheld Game Console (Machine Only & No Case) $247.28 ($242.07 eBay Plus) Delivered (China) @ Anbernic eBay

I missed out on the last deal posted here, since I was still deciding which handheld would be my first. Finally decided on this model, messaged Anbernic on eBay who told me there was an upcoming sale which is now.

Using code TJULY15 on eBay gives either 17% off (eBay plus) or 15% off non members.

Buying direct from the Anbernic website is even cheaper still, but I'd personally rather pay the little extra for eBay protection.

$160.64 USD ($237.84 AUD)

  • Wow thought the old/cheaper models are like $50 on AliExpress but they ain’t 720x720 resolution or come with a T820 !

I'd wait for the AliExpress sales to be live this afternoon. Many listings will show the price for when the sales go live.

  • Any reason you would pick this over the seemingly much more powerful RG556 from the same seller for ~$20 more?

    • Only if you prefer the form factor and 1 x 1 aspect ratio.

This has the same specs as rg556 except for the screen size.

      • Apologies you are correct. Thanks

  • I love the look and form factor of these but for someone who plays mostly 4:3 games, that screen is a deal breaker.

It looks like the RG556 is my best bet.

Looks like a $30 knockoff from 25 years ago.

    • In what way?

    • I think thats part of the chard of this device.
      Especially the grey model

        Mmm chard

I had it for a while now and was lucky to not get the severe light bleed problem some people got.
While playing 16:9 games it does feel like playing on a 2DS Screen with the same dimension. It can display out 1080p from the device in projection mode; I suggest using a Bluetooth controller in that mode because a missed press can force the active screen back to the cube. 4:3 look great and both dolphin emulators that come with it have widescreen hacks to make those 3D games 1:1.

    • 🤞 Crossed fingers I do not get light bleed units. I purchased two, one for my Brother in law as he's been after one too.
What size SD card did you go with? I've just got 2x 128gb for now since they are $19 each from GoodGuys, probs wait for an OzBargain post for a larger.

Looking into setup guides now.. seems pretty overwhelming process lol. How did you go?

If it's anything like the RG556 (which has more or less the same specs), it's a box of piss mate. Put your games on and go. Update the emulators or don't, your call really, performance on the included ones was fine for me. I updated them all anyways bc why not but I messed around for a week or so with the stock emus and they were fine all the way up to and including Wii.

idk how much space you'll need, the ways and games you play vary greatly from person to person, but when using CHD (compressed games for PS1, PS2, Dreamcast, etc.) I have got by fine with the built in 128 on the 556 (same on this Cube), I got half a dozen Wii games (bigger ones like COD and GoldenEye), and around 80 odd PS2/PSP games with a bunch of space leftover. 128 SD plus 128 built in should absolutely do you guys, but what do I know, maybe you want the full romsets of every console, idk. But you should be able to survive a good long while is the point.

      • Everything runs out of the box, just need to get the roms. It has 128gb built in and comes with all the emulators. I have an old 200gb sd card laying around after replacing it for a bigger one on my Switch. You can just hot swap with the current SD cards you have, no need to go bigger unless you want to run some switch games.

Russ has a guide, personally the only thing I bothered with is getting Pico8 running on the device. Just so I can use Pico8 download menu within the app.

I also got Project+ for Brawl working.

  • Rgb30 is wayyyy cheaper if you're only interested in older platforms. I love mine for SNES titles

  • New to these devices but can anyone advise a good device for Minecraft? My son has started playing recently and it would be good to get my iPhone back from him!

The tablet version is absolutely fine - just grab an iPad or an Android tablet.
