I've seen many vidoes of Shanghai airport practically empty. Chinese complaining there's practically no food shops open.

The economy is doing poorly for many Chinese, with most no longer thinking to travel overseas but doing cheap domestic trips if they cna afford to travel.

this jives with China lifting visa restrictions. They really want people to visit. But realistically there are so many better options in Asia that doesn't involve an authoritarian regime.

I get what you are saying but as an ordinary tourist, why would you think ann authoritarian regime would even care about you? Don’t you think you over-estimated how important you are?

@jedimaster: Are you going to do the same as what the detainee did, as a tourist? Would you do these same types of activity in other country?

    • This is a good thing.

I'm heading to Shenzhen within the next 2 months. Been watching vloggers just to get a feel of the place and the prices for negotiating at the tech markets. Definitely busy!

      • Was at Shanghai Pudong airport for a 5 hour layover last month… half the food stores are closed, including Burger King, etc. The remaining are pretty quiet.. most have pretty much no customers. This was around 6pm

July and August is the worst time to go to Shanghai, lived their a number of years and sweating through everyday.

However, if you are not planning to go outside much then you can use the subway to avoid pretty much every bit of rain.

Their subway is interconnected so much that you can plan your day without see much of the rain if all your activities are in doors
