7900 GRE is a better option if you dont care about the colour:

    https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/graphics-cards/amd/11041…

    • i don't think the 2 free games deal comes with the 7900 GRE though.

They’re not very great games anyway. Can still get them for free though through other sources

    • It works out better as my case is white. would you go for this or the RTX 4070 Super?

OOS now but Centrecom had this model going for $750 (lower with a code) within the last month.

    HODL

    • looks like its only instore only though updated post though

      • Oh interesting they got some back in stock.

A month or so ago they were running some EOFY sales with codes that took off another ~$37 or so. Would love to see it come back at that price with proper availability.

I don't like any of these RDNA3 GPU's they are way too power leaky and their idle power draw is not good enough for me especially with dual high refresh monitors
I'll stick with my RDNA2 GPU's for now.

    6600XT RDNA2 idles at around 5w with dual 60Hz 1440P displays
    6600XT RDNA2 idles at around 19w with dual 165Hz 1440P displays

    6800 RDNA2 idles at around 6w with dual 60Hz 1440P displays
    6800 RDNA2 idles at around 31w with dual 165Hz 1440P displays

RDNA3 doesn't get anywhere near these numbers. I'm waiting for RDNA4 to see if they have fixed/improved the die power leakage.

RDNA4 High end was canceled due to RDNA 4 pretty much just being a fixed/improved RDNA3…. they fast tracked RDNA5 design as their next high end part due 2025/2026

CNDA is where they pumped all their TSMC GPU silicon allocation too. VS wasting it on High end RDNA4 that no one would buy anyways.

    • I upgraded to this from a 6600 XT :D its a massive performance boost for me. and the built in AV1 codec is a bonus in Davinci resolve even more of a boost if you use the overclocking tools you get another 10% performance when you max the overclock at a stable level.

Whats your idle power draw? using AMD drivers under Performance/Metrics :)? My 6800 is sitting on 8w right now.

        • haven't looked lol will have a look maybe tomorrow and see what a get. I am running of a corsair 750w psu though and it seems to be plenty of power.

          • +1

@kungfuman: idle power.. not load power :)

            • @vid_ghost: How do you look at and measure this please? I'd like to know mine as well.

          • @kungfuman: Having ample power isn't his point though, his point is with higher idle wattage, you might start to feel it in your power bills

            • +1

@Grish: i only use my PC for when I need to game lol I never have it on all the time. I use my macbook pro for every thing else.

        • ok I get about 20 to 30w idle. that being said you need to have the latest AMD drivers if you don't you will most likely get 90w for idle. thats a on a 1440p display 165hz

          • @kungfuman: Looks about right on.. I guess AMD fixed their idle power draw :) Nice! .. How much does it drop when you change both monitors to 60Hz?

            • @vid_ghost: haven't tried to do that yet might play around with 2 displays and see where to goes :D I haven't even tried to over clock it yet and this cards pretty much made for over clocking with that massive heatsync and fans :D

            • @vid_ghost: 20-30w idle still seems high to me, considering you said your 6800 is only 8w idle.

              • @Grish: 8w idle. with two 1440P displays at 60Hz… 30w with two 1440P displays at 165Hz and that's because the ram maxed 100% out when high refresh rates… not sure why

Seems pointless when Intel Battlemage and the RTX 5080 are right around the corner (below and above this price point respectively).

    • +5

Intel Battlemage maybe but the RTX 5080 will be WAY above this price point.. maybe double the price. My guess is $1299 US for the RTX 5080 and $1999US for the RTX 5090

      • I'm thinking $999 USD max for the 5080 at this point if the rumours are correct about its specs. Battlemage definitely in the mix though for close competition, and then of course you've got RDNA4, albeit pushed to Q1 2025.

My point with the 5080 is that you would be expect it to also be twice as performative as this card in raster before considering further architectural and DLSS/RT updates, so it'll be better placed on the value curve and available in 3 months.

$719 XFX Quicksilver Radeon RX 7800 XT Magnetic Air Gaming, 16GB

yep saw that not the best for overclocking though the cooling on the asus tuf is insanely good. the heat sync alone is massive.

    • XFX cards are really long so, double check if it'll fit your case or the space in your case. Its already out of scope of a lot of SFF cases.

      • my case it full atx it fits any card its massive.

      • Yep, I realised this when I received mine last week. They even included a holder to prevent sagging. Why are they sooooooooo long? It's longer than my forearm!

        • I have a Lian li case that came with its own bracket for this

  • Radeon since 2022: I have a dream!

Radeon is slowly gaining traction I know many people now switching from nvidia as much as nvidia wants to push it very people don't give a crap about ray tracing lol
