Wish this had the auto lift mop function :(

    • +1

      you gots to have that

      • -1

Whats the best roborock? Looking to get one this weekend

        • S8 Pro Ultra

          • @saurabhgoyal93: Why this one?

          • +2

@saurabhgoyal93: I have a S8 Pro Ultra and a Roborock Q7 Max+. One for upstairs (floorboards only) and one for downstairs (tiles and carpet). The S8 Pro Ultra is lightyears ahead of the Q7 Max+.

Wish i didn't stinge out and buy the cheaper Q7 Max+ model.

            • @a l an: what's the difference?

              • +2

@ChipsChicky: biggest one being the mop function. has two tanks for clean water and dirty water. self cleans the mop and raises the mop when it detects carpet.

Q7 only has a single spinny thing but s8 has dual.

Suction on the s8 is double the q7 as well. As such s8 does a massively better clean in general.

Lastly the algorithm for roaming around seems vastly better on the s8.

So i guess you get what you pay for.

                • @a l an: I picked up an S7 for $800 on Black Friday 2022, and feature wise it is (going by the website at least) comparable to the Q7 Max, the main difference being the S7 has "sonic mopping" (rubs the central section of the mopping pad side to side) and the Q7 Max has higher suction.

I've found the S7 to have sufficient suction for our tile floors. Yeah, the S8 will perform better, but has a much higher price tag. The Q7 Max+ also has the dustbin emptying dock.

                • @a l an: The mopping/cleaning switch is fully automatic? I have only around 10% of the area that are tiles, the rest are all carpet. Would the Roborock function well in this case? Thanks.

                  • +1

@skyscraper85: The S8+ that i have automatically lifts the mop when it detects the carpet. My downstairs area is a combination of carpet (living room and study) and tile, hallway, dining, kitchen, laundry.

It vacuum and mops all in one go and understands when the mop is dirty and auto cleans the mop head.

Haven't had to clean myself since getting it.

Only need to fill clean water, empty dirty water and empty the dust bin every few weeks (this is with daily use)

            • @a l an: The S8 Pro Ultra are you using that on the tiles and carpet?

              • @2esc: Yes tiles and carpet. Its smart enough to detect carpet and lift the mop. Well worth the money.

        • Take a look at the Dreame X40 Ultra instead.

    • +1

would you be able to help me understand why this is an important function please

      • +4

So you can mop your floor and vacuum the carpets without having to physically remove the mop before you vacuum carpets…. unless you want wet carpets.

  • -3

Don't buy it. My one just died right after the warranty period. Really poor quality. I have two other brands at home which has twice the life span and still working

    • +1

      What others do you have?

        • +8

So its a completely different model?

Roborock have been the go to for robotic vacuums for a while now

    • +3

I have had the S5 Max since 2020, working perfectly an average of 3x weekly, often daily. A previous one Xiaomi Mi Smart (made by Roborock?) since February 2017 also still working, although battery doesn't last as long anymore after 7years (the vacuum goes back to base and recharge to finish).

      • +2

I've had my S50 since 2018 and it's still kicking with no major part replacements (just the usual brush and filter changes)

        • +1

Thats nothing, my OG 1st gen Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum still works from 2017, although I've recently replaced it with a lubluelu due to the battery being too degraded.

          • +1

@samfisher5986: How does the Lubulelu stack up?
They look very similar to the 2nd gen Roborock S5/S50

            • @ESEMCE: I haven't been able to fault anything at all besides it struggling a little to navigate its way to specific rooms, as well as sometimes going back to the docks from those rooms. It seems it sometimes gets a little lost about 20-30% of the time, I imagine its luck based on your house setup. There issue doesn't happen if I also select for it to clean the hallway, probably because its easier to find the rooms from the hallway.

          • +1

@samfisher5986: For longevity, I've still got a pair of 13-year-old Neato XV-11s running about downstairs. Both scored Li-Ion battery upgrades several years ago, but can still each run for an hour. They're not self-emptying like the Xiaomi S9 Alpha I have upstairs, but these damn Neatos refuse to fail.

I hate to toss out something that persists in working perfectly, but I would like to get another self-emptying 'bot. However, these Neatos are fun to watch when they meet up and argue over which one's vacuuming a patch of floor :)

      • Have a gen 1 Xiaomi (2017) and an S5Max (2020) had to replace one wheel on the Xiaomi 18months in but was easy to repair and may have had something to do with a stripping it apart after a run in with dog s%$t (Yeah every robo vac owners worst nightmare!). We rented for a couple of years while building recently and they spent that time stored away under our bed (I remembered to charge them once). Both have fired straight up in the new house and seem to be working well. The Xiaomi battery isn't as good as it was, but does the job and the S5 refused to go into the pantry for the first 2 weeks, but I did an exorcism on the room (or maybe I just deleted the map and did a quick map) and it's all good now.

    • +3

Disappointing… My gen 2 Roborock (S5) is still going strong. I've given it a couple of thorough cleanouts (wow it gets dusty inside!!!) and a new battery, but otherwise no issues.

      • +1

I have an s6 pure and still kicking on after 5 years

        • slightly off topic, but where did you get your S5's battery? Worth getting a official one which costs about 1/3 of the machin when I bought it?

          • @bagachin: EBay. Only place I could find one

          • @bagachin: I bought a genuine one from Robot Specialist in a Black Friday Special a couple of years ago.
It was still pretty expensive at $103 delivered, but I've never had a good experience buying knock off batteries for phones or laptops over the years, so in my opinion the additional expense was worth it.

    • +10

On this note, DON'T BUY DREAME!!
      https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/dreame-technology
Thwy don't honour ACL and even if it's within warranty they will half fix it and send you back a broken vacuum. No one mentioned this on ozbargain when I bought it and am now suffering. NEVER BUY DREAME.
On the other hand, mobilciti has been decent to deal with for warranty claims within the warranty period. They try to pawn you off to the manufacturer but if you push them, they will accept the device and fix it. Still not ideal, but they do properly fix it and don't charge any shipping or inspection fee like dreame 😡

      • +1

I hope this is wrong. I'm very interested in the Dreame X40 Ultra. It appears to be better than any of the Roborocks.

        • Sure you can buy it, but get it from a good brick and mortar store which has a history of honouring warranty and maybe buy it with a credit card that extends warranty more just in case. I have had the OG xiaomi robot vacuum (~7 years) and the roborock s5 for years, both are still mostly fine. My dreame L10 Pro broke in just 14 months. And it's this weird lights flashing issue that has happened to a bunch of people on different dreame models per reddit. Tbh I won't blame a company for tech not working, there's always a small percentage of duds. But their service and warranty is appalling. I bought directly from them through the ebay dreame au store FYI, so don't do that

        • FYI I just looked up roborock. Same story there
          https://au.trustpilot.com/review/roborock.com.au
I haven't had to contact their customer service yet so hadn't known they're terrible too. Best to buy from a reputable reseller and never buy direct from these companies.

      • +1

Yep I had a terrible experience with Dreame too.

  • is it any good on carpet?

    • You'd hope so, lol

    • I have a Q7, not with this dock, but the suction on carpets isn't great in terms of getting my dogs hair out (golden retriever). I have it set to max suction too

      • I have a golden retriever and the q7 max and it works great.

I just need to put it on the higher suction speed with the dog hair or the hair gets wrapped around the roller and wheels.

        The mop is very average.

      • +1

I have a Golden/Border Collie mix who is an absolute nightmare to deal with especially transitioning into summer as he sheds.

The rubber rollers that come with the unit do nothing except roll his undercoat into the carpet. I had to purchase the brush style rollers which helped, but still isn't stellar. What we've resorted to is a quick vacuum with the Dyson stick where his hair has "clumped" (daily), before the Q7 runs. Seems to work OK.

  • +1

Shame! I bought this from the last deal at $658. good find OP
FYI it works great, mopping is not the best though

  • +1

Just need the autoclean dock. Any deals on that?

    • +1

      Oh for the s7 normal

  • -3

Any vacs that have a mop/water function are set to fail at some stage. If yours is still going with mopping+vacuuming, then its pure luck and maybe a better QC
I stopped using any wet functions after a number of vacs failed due to mainboard failure.
Water and electronics dont work well together and eventually it will short something. They put a lot of compound of sorts over the board (which makes it pretty much unrepairable) but over time, with various components heating up, it will fail somewhere
After replacing the board myself I am still rocking used to be popular Viomi S9 in vacuum only mode. But battery is due for replacement soon - lasts about 12 month. Thats my second one already

    • +2

      Thats a poor assumption.

My LuBluelu has the water in a location that can't mix with the electronics, I assume most vacuums are built similar.

Roborock Q7 Max Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner - Black For $450 is it a good deal ?

  • +1

Had it for a while, its pretty good. Although longer hair gets tangled in the roller quite a bit, and also clogs up when it tries to empty with the auto dock. If i was to buy again, i would heavily research this point as its very annoying to have to remove the roller and pick all the hairs out after every time it is ran.

    • +2

My vac clogs too so I started doing the house in segments and now it's fine. Empty bin after half the house then back to it.

      • yep - definitely works better with more frequent cleaning

  • Any vac robot can do mop wash and dry and to avoid dog poo? How can I find out if the robot can or not? I watched a horrible video last week and definitely don’t want that happen to me lol

    • This is an indoor cleaner. Is there dog poo inside…?

  • So this doesn’t auto lift?
Damn otherwise that would have me sold

  • -3

my apartment is 90% carpet, i scare it might drag wet mop all over = (

    • +5

      Then don't use the mop?

  • Say you have a section of the house that has say a 40mm threshold. Could a robot vacuum be programmed to fall off that threshold and keep going until it’s done that final room at which point it powers down? I can then come in the next morning and take it back to the base to plug in and charge.

    • +2

      No, they have cliff sensors.
Just build a ramp for the poor sucker.
or physically move it to the lower section and run a manual clean.

    • +2

You want it to commit suicide ? Haha

  • Got the Q8 Max and am pretty happy with it! Just got to empty the dust bin also I realised!

  • +1

    This one better or lubluelu?

    • Whiever has better warranty honestly. These devices can often fail. Get it from a reliable reseller if nothing else.

  • +1

Compared to Ecovacs Deebot NEO 2 Plus, how better is this?
Ecovacs Deebot Neo 2.0 Plus from Aldi has suction power of 5000pa, it has bin bag and so does this one
Mop on Ecovacs is not that bad, but I have not used this one, if anyone used both, can you please guide me
    Thank you.

  • +1

So have I got this right, the auto-empty functionality means that instead of having to empty the vacuum cleaner robot, you have to empty the vacuum cleaner robot's recharging station?

    • +1

Yep, from memory, you'll have to only empty once per 45-60 days instead of each session.

    • +1

Yes. The storage for debris is larger in the docking station allowing more time between emptying schedules than that of the robot vacuum it's self. Basically, less effort required to let this thing function autonomously.

      • -2

At the cost of $10+ every few weeks because it requires proprietary bags for the docking station https://us.roborock.com/products/dust-bag-6-pcs-for-s7-maxv-…

        • Can you rinse out and dry the dust bags to save some $$?

        • +2

I get around 3 months between empties (4 bedroom house).

The work around to avoid buying new bags is to cut the bottom off one and put a clip/sealer on it like this

          • +1

@Drakesy: I do this. I reckon I got 1 year out of a bag before it blocked with too much dust meaning it struggled to empty correctly. But, in reality 1 year is pretty good.

          • @Drakesy: Good your mileage differs. I'm using the usually reliable Rtings review as baseline, which mentioned this and gave it a 4.5/10 for reoccurring costs.

  • daz cheep

  • does this get stuck less than the previous gens? i got a roborock from 3 years ago, i can't remember the model, but it doesn't have a auto empty dock and is in white.

the problem with mine is it always gets stuck on rugs/bottom of shelves with flat bases that are metal tubes, it goes over it like a hump and just won't be able to back out properly.

    • Mine has been transitioning fine across different rugs, carpet and floorboards. It eats up cables which is where I find it gets mostly stuck

      • Turns out I have a s5 Max which scores better than this for its cleaning ability in a few reviews. Guess it's back to the drawing board.

Yes cables are are an annoyance but also loose high pile rugs, it runs into the edges flips them then proceeds to get stuck :(.

  • +3

I bought two Q7 max for $500 in November without the auto dock. They replaced an early gen Xiaomi unit.

They aren't flawless but I'm happy enough with them. With three messy young boys I need to run them consecutively 2 or 3 times before I feel the floors are close to the thoroughness of a manual clean (once or twice a week). Which is fine; it's a robot after all and I can run the programs while we are out of the house. I haven't used my Dyson in 8 months so that's a good sign.

The mop isn't great- just drags a cloth pad around behind it so it won't remove stubborn patches (like dried up baby milk vomit…). The cloth doesn't press evenly on the floor so I put a thin sponge between cloth and mount. For cleaning fluid I use some diluted windex. Between mop ups I just throw the cloth in the washing machine. Oh and although you can specify zones to mop, vacuum or both, because the mop doesn't lift it'll get dragged across your carpet. Better to remove the mop for carpet work, and attach it only when you want to mop.

I doubt a $2000 unit would give me $1500 worth of extra cleaning satisfaction. However, if the more expensive unit can cope with bits of lego, shoelaces, nerf bullets, powercords, random paper scraps and lolly wrappers, erasers, pencils, socks, undies and pokemon cards lying on the floor I would DEFINITELY buy it- half my struggle is getting the house tidy enough for the robot to do its job.

    • That is where the effort is, the upfront tidy up of toys and odd bits on the floor.

Once you do that it cleans very well!

    • My kids are scared witless that the robovac will "eat" their toys.
The tidiness aspect has been a a fantastic additional upside to what I was already expecting (and has proven to be) to be a timesaving appliance.

I run ours daily on the hard floors, and every second day on the carpeted bedrooms.

  • We got this in the previous deal on here and we're very happy with it. I know little about these machines but it does a good job for us. We use it upstairs and it's carpet only, an area of about 110m2.

  • This or Eufy L60? Understand the price difference but willing to pay extra if it's better

  • Does this play CDs too? It would be cool if it was playing some tunes while vacuuming.

    • +2

Chuck a bluetooth speaker on top - DJ Roomba

    • +1

CDs, I think you are showing your age 😂

    • The theme from Jaws?

  • This or Q5 Pro without the dock?

    • This

  • +2

Awesome price for what you are getting.

I am waiting for the ultra pro max hyper infinite version

  • Is this a good one for hard floors with no mopping? There is a carpeted media room and med pile rug that I'll do manually. Can it be programmed to avoid certain areas? 125m2 floor area to cover and run daily while at work.

    • +1

It'll be good for the carpeted floors as well.
And yes you can command it to never go certain places or just send it off to one room if that's all you want done.

  • This vs Lubluelu Robot Vacuum and Mop Combo Auto-Empty Dock ?

  • Almost got it, but then saw that the dock requires disposable bags. Will wait for a version without bags

    • I think the only one with an emptying dock without bags is currently the Dyson.

  • For anyone wondering, i believe the s7 auto empty dock can be used with the Q7. I have both myself but not opening them up until i move houses.
