  • Does any have this model, I’d be interested to know firmess, comfort and overall quality?

    • -1

It’s good but as a base only, needs to be paired with a topper. And get extra firm only

      • +2

Base only?? Isnt this the mattress?

    • +2

If you want firmness get a Japanese Futon & sleep on the ground.

      Thinking about doing this myself.

I've been watching YT vids so far & had a search around at prices.

Just watched this video & that brand is available on Amazon AU… ZonLi Japanese Floor Futon Mattress
They are more expensive than I thought.

Edit - This one is the best seller on Amazon AU… MAXYOYO Japanese Floor Mattress.

It's not cheap but these guys are legit
          https://www.japanache.com.au/contents/en-us/d143_Japanese_Fu…

I've bought a futon and tatami mats from them.

          • @jaejae69: What a fascinating website. thanks for sharing

          • @jaejae69: Do you know the average lifespan of such futon? And how did you find their tatami mats? Thanks

            • +1

@Jx: Probably depends if you look after it. After watching some YT vids they need to be aired & get the sun on them. Makes sense really.

          • @jaejae69: Does futon prvoide adequate spine support like bed mattress?

            • @ATTS: The support comes from the floor, so yes there's definitely support.

                @WatchNerd: Oh i see thanks

                • +3

@ATTS: Bought the mats back in 2020 and have no issues with them til now. I don't even air them out too much although they are in a room which gets quite a bit of sun.

As for the futons, it really depends on your preferences. I'm a pretty big guy and a single futon on top of tatami guarantees I wake up with a sore back, I don't get used to it after a while either. When I stay at my in-law's house in Japan I always have a foam layer under the futon.

My dad however, has no problems at all with just a single futon and the one I bought from this site was actually for him (he's not Japanese so it's not cultural). Very good quality product, just not for me personally.

    • Tried it at the store recently, the firm is really a medium. The extra firm is comfortable, I found it just as good as the more expensive line (valevag)

    • I have this in extra firm. I would say it's fine, but it's not that firm. But it's a perfectly reasonable mattress at this price point.
Comfort is not an issue for me, but I've slept on stone beds and thought it was fine.

    SAGSTUA

    I prefer the HÄWKTÛA

    • +1

That Sagstua base is not to my liking either.
      What is Hawktua?

      • +11

        It's similar to the SPÏTÖNTHÁTTHANG

bed frame (both queen and double) has been out of stock for a while now. Most of their "On Sale" items are now out of stock.

And it won't come in stock as STJÄRNÖ has replaced this bed frame now - link - https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/stjaernoe-bed-frame-anthracite-…

    • Double in stock for me

    • Whoa that's one over priced hideous bed, but hey that's just my view

  • Any suggestions for a decent topper at a decent price?

    • +1
      • Thanks do you think 5cm would be enough to go on top of a latex mattress that’s giving me a sore back or would you pay the extra for the 7cm?

        • +1

          I'm ~80kg, and I've a 5cm one. It's good enough for me, very comfy.

          • @O O: Thanks I just grabbed one

            • @bennybaubles: I'm confused, why would adding a thin latex topper on a latex mattress fix any problems?

              • @WatchNerd: I’m hoping to firm up the original mattress with a new top. I thought I’d risk it for $157 if it fails then I’ll have to buy another mattress.

                • +1

@bennybaubles: Well I guess the good thing is if it doesn't work you can put the topper on the ground & try it Japanese Futon style.
