Recommend Me a Credit Card (Currently CBA Ultimate)

Hi all,

Can you please recommend me a credit card?

Currently have CBA Ultimate awards

  • Spend 10k each month on it
  • Have no loyalty to any airline or airline programme
  • Currently we generate about 1k per year in points which we use at flight center and we book the cheapest flights, airlines are always different hence no loyalty to any programme
  • with all this in mind, I pay zero annual fee, zero interest obviously

Please recommend me a card that has best conversation

I also am aware of the websites you recommend but they are too complicated for me.

If someone spends 10k a month - which card is the best? Thanks.

I also am aware of the websites you recommend but they are too complicated for me.

Enough money to have $120k a year go through a credit card, can use a VPN, can't use finder.com.au.

Stop being lazy, just look it up yourself.

      Having slaves makes you rich.

sounds lazy to me. there's only like 5 cards that earn points and have no annual fee

      • You want the recommendation
        Go do the work!
        Its not hard.
You tick a few boxes and plug in a couple of figures.
        You get back the recommendations
You can sort them any way you like.
What you say is 100% rubbish!

        Seriously mate.
        We are not your servants

If its too hard then stay with what you have
It sounds fairly good for your requirments

Please recommend me a card that has best conversation

Talking credit cards haven't been invented yet.

I would love one to say "JUST STOP AND THINK ABOUT IT!!!" every time the wife pulled it out of her wallet.

    • But if you save your card to your phone wallet, your phone can talk to you.

      Problem solved!

Ah but next Op will ask for a phone recommendation….
No doubt one that has best conversation

  • I use Amex cash back card that gives out 1% cash back $10 monthly fee. And the other is Maquaire credit card gives out 1 points for $1 spent up to $5000 and half points after. $150 fee per year.I bought Amazon discounted gift card in their card marketplace.

Good time for a rethink. In 2023 I earned 130,000 QFF points from $117K spending. Churners will have achieved significantly better.

    • I thought you had high financial literacy. Surprised you don’t churn.

      • +1

You have to be financially literate to churn without getting burned. You can be financially literate and choose not to churn.

        • Scared of getting burned? I churn, anz and Amex still approved.

          • @askbargain: Only two cards? Is that really churning?

            • @sumyungguy: 6 cards so far this year. Even ANZ and AMEX approved.

              • @askbargain: I'm interested in knowing, for those who churn cards yearly or even more frequently, what kind of wage brackets are we talking? I've never considered it as we are single income under $75k/year still with a mortgage under 200k left. Assume I'd get knocked back since we already have one card at 6k. We are high savers and quick loan payers but doubt banks give two hoots about how you spend and save these days and just work of the pre determined spend figures you read about online. With Coles rewards platinum now ditching fee free international transactions, it's time to look at an alternative before my card renews next year.

                • @hazzad: One of the reason is most likely for business purchases.

                  • @foxmulder: Gotcha. Yeah mine is purely for domestic spend, nothing business related.

                • @hazzad: you won't get knocked back for another 6k card. if you're going to spend the money, you might as well churn a card. like foxmulder, most churners have business purchases, but even without it, many people can easily average 40k spend a year, which gives you a decent churn.

                  • @askbargain: Yeah we average about 3k/month on it so about 35k odd. Ok so worth a crack i guess. Worst case i get rejected and it knocks down my credit rating a little. Currently sitting at about 900 so decent credit rating at least. Not looking to get another loan again so wont really effect us.

Whilst im here i may as well ask another question. I've only ever redeemed my Flybuys points for gift cards but we are looking at travelling next year and see they offer the option of transferring out to Velocity points. Can anyone shed light on how these are used? Can they only be used via Virgin's website or are there other options for using them? It seems best flights can be obtained from online flight sites(skyscanner, etc). I have about 2k in Flybuys dollars to use so tossing up between JB gift cards for a new tv later this year or whether i convert to Velocity points for a trip next year.

                    • @hazzad: 2K Flybuys dollars = 400K Flybuys points? There was a 15% Velocity auto-transfer bonus but it ended in May

                      • @sumyungguy: Correct. Yeah we dont fly until late next year so have time up our sleeves.

                    • @hazzad: unless you need every single point you can get, i would just get my velocity points from churning. you should research how much points you need, and if business class is something you want.

                    • @hazzad: 2 Flybuys = 1 Velocity

Can they only be used via Virgin's website or are there other options for using them? It seems best flights can be obtained from online flight sites(skyscanner, etc). We converted Velocity to KrisFlyer (1.55V = 1KF) and about $650 in taxes for 4 pax in December, saved us about $9000 and purchased directly with SIA. There's no right way to use the points, it's what saves you the most money. You can use the Virgin or SIA website to look for "rewards seats", see how many points you need

  • the one you have now is good

    • Was told this too. Will look into this card. Thanks.

ANZ Qantas rewards FF black. highest earn rate given your spend.

    • Thanks bro. This was the type of answers I was looking for.

      • +1

Compare also with Qantas Amex Ultimate which allows you to claw back the $450 annual fee with a QF airfare credit. Assuming you keep the CBA Ultimate and spend 75% Amex 25% Mastercard, you'll earn 2.5% more QFF points on 120K spend.

    Just avoid credit cards fullstop.

They are the crack cocaine of the finance industry… meaning people get addicted to them and they eventually led to your downfall.

    • Just don't get your laptop repaired in Delaware

    • +1

Think that is very much person dependant. Had one for most of my life and have always paid it in full every month and enjoyed the rewards. Sure that who cannot finance their use should avoid but many can manage the payments and enjoy the benefits of interest free money for up to 55 off days and get rewarded for doing so.

  • Does anyone know a credit card that accept points directly to webjet or Flight center other then CBA?
