El Jannah on Uber eats is jacked compared to in store prices
Strange, i saw some ad where they specifically denied this
Can confirm.
They're OK but looking at the prices in my area they're all already 20-30% too high. Chicken Roll, chips and can of drink $21.
Everything is ridiculous at the moment. I have stopped buying takeaway altogether. I noticed the local suburban bakery put their banh mi price up to $11. Last time I had it was $8 and thought that was too much for what is a very average banh mi.
$6 at cabra. Abit cheaper if buy multiples.
Used to be $3.50 b3fore covid
Its no longer 6 bucks in cabra… Try 10 bucks
It hasnt been 6 bucks for years
@hippyhippy: well you dont know the shops then.
it is $6. just one shop. the rest 8-10
im talking the standard pork roll okay
@CyberMurning: I go all the time.. which shop is doing 6 bucks for a standard roll? Serious question
@hippyhippy: Aiyooo Broooo…. how cum u don beliep me laaaa…
see this
https://ibb.co/DMTW9mX
hope you are hippy now (ups. happy)
@CyberMurning: I know that place.. their rols are kinda average …I'm pretty sure they no longer 6 bucks…
I used to always go to KK .. but damn they are so expensive and their quality has gone down a little
@hippyhippy: that photo was taken a week ago by me personally
well we cant have $500 iphone 15 special edition pro max with real crocodile leather case signed by miss saigon
@CyberMurning: That’s where I go all the time to get my pork roll all the time and yes they are still $6 bucks a roll
Whole chicken should be the benchmark, at $19.90 they're cheaper than equivalents at Nando's ($26.95), Chargrill Charlie's ($22.90), Henrietta ($28 - t/a) and about same as Oporto ($19.75), Frango's ($19.00), Ogalo ($19.90), Camy's ($19.90)
You really know your chicken!
Which one is the best?
Frango, easily.
@ensanguined: Frango is Portuguese chicken not Lebanese
@bought: He asked which was the best charcoal chicken out of the list lol, so what if it's a different style? Doesn't change the answer.
where is La Mono and Awafi on your list?
You forgot Hawa :)
Nandos included unlimited sauces in restaurant though, a big difference indeed.
Don’t expect anything different , after all , we all have overheads
It's not KFC, so don't expect KFC prices.
$15 delivery i don't think so
Most overrated and dry charcoal chicken. Good shawarma rolls though!
With 30+ branches and growing, it says otherwise.
I believe that's why the term 'overrated' was used.
Yup negatively.
@Fredfloresjr: Can't say I've ever had it, but one has popped up around the corner and have been keen to try it. From all of the comments though, I'm kinda reconsidering that idea. The KFC next door just can't be beaten. ;)
@Fredfloresjr: There's a positive way of using the term 'overrated'?
Being a big chain doesn't mean good food, it generally just means profitable food.
not sure rapid expansion relates to how moist the chicken is
He said overrated, talking in general, then added the word "dry" after the word AND.
@Fredfloresjr: Person 1: "I find their chicken to be dry and not as good as many people say it is."
Person 2: "That can't be true, there's 30 restaurants."
lol fwiw I like their tawouk platter but the rest of the chicken is indeed pretty average
@hyperfuzz: Yep, lot of stores doesn't equal to good.
They were good when they had 3-4 stores in Western Sydney, since the new owners came in and the 'corporatization' of it all, it's gone to shit.
If you're in Granville, I highly recommend Al Waha instead.
Totally agree. We would frequent all the time to Granville in 2017 when we lived in parramatta. Quality control has really dropped and some of our favourites Lebanese foods on the menu have been replaced with fried chicken!
Agree. it’s now a factory line and the subtleties are lost. Does anyone remember when the whole chicken was $9.95?
I have had this chicken a couple of times, and it has been the driest chicken I have even consumed. Is this normal, or have I been unlucky?
I went to the OG Granville a couple of times long time ago and I found it too dry too.
Hawa in Granville is pretty good from what I remember. I heard it was opened by the original EJ people or the ones who opened Granville, unsure if that's true or not
Chickanji in wetherill park is pretty good also.
Yep i found it too dry as well. Have not even considering them for years when getting a chicken take out
Warning: their garlic sauce is addictive.
Their garlic sauce is terrible compared to the traditional Lebanese garlic sauce.
Wow readily available mass produced is worst than authentic homemade alternative.
Then these traditional Lebanese garlic sauce makers should start selling them because El Jannah is doing 17 million revenue on something that is "terrible" in comparison.
With that rate I can say, 1:200,000
1 will say their garlic sauce is terrible
200,000 will say it is the best.
Seems like taste buds issue lol
@Fredfloresjr: Yer I also think it's probably a tastebud issue lol. Sales speak for themselves after all.
@morphio
I actually like the El Jannahs sauce. I sometimes buy extra of that and just dip other brands of chicken into it.
@Fredfloresjr: With that logic, McDonald's makes the world's best hamburgers
@Fredfloresjr: Not so much that it tastes bad, but most traditionalists will frown on it because of all the additives. Should be garlic, oil, lemon and salt. There seems to be egg, dairy, stabilisers etc. proper stuff will give you bad breath but will not hurt your gut.
@Suspect420 @MrMoo As I don't know any better; can you recommend a better one that I can buy and take home?
@morphio: I make my own and freeze it for later use.
Really easy and only needs 4 ingredients. I like mine with a really good EVOO but some prefer it with a neutral oil.
Quick google search:
https://www.seriouseats.com/traditional-toum
https://feelgoodfoodie.net/recipe/lebanese-garlic-sauce/
You can also adjust the spiciness by using mashed potato to *water it down.
@Suspect420: I was hoping to avoid making my own but I will probably give it a go. Thanks!
it used to be a tonne better, before they start mass producing it in a factory somewhere.
Think I saw these guys getting boycotted recently on socials
By Vegans?
Haha, nah don't think it was that
How come?
Zionism
Surprised at their speed of expansion, the franchise is probably not cheap, but subpar food at high cost.
Love their toum but I feel like the meat is pretty dry.
Ever since their ownership change they have increased prices, but, improved their menus, etc. I have stopped eating this stuff due to their prices, local charcoal shop it good enough. If you also do that, they might reconsider their prices.
Their rolls and chicken have shrunk quite a bit in size
Doesn’t charcoal give you cancer? I mean, more than most of everything else does.
but they are yummy?
ozb gives cancer to my wallet but im still going back here
Ain’t that the truth.
But I’ve got some high quality tools now!
Thats what we all are saying to justify those impulse buyings… i feel you bro
I'm on team Frangos.
These chickens are nothing out of the ordinary and are a bit small for the price.
Very, very average food. If you're expecting it to be anything like Nando's, you'll be disappointed. The chicken is dry AF. Very frugal serving size as well.
I’m a regular customer of my local El Jannah store in the suburb I live in. The staff are familiar with me, and I usually choose the chicken I want, so I never get a dry chicken from there. If you don’t choose your own though then it’s not uncommon to receive dry chicken😔… This is the fault of management though, they’re greedy like many businesses, and instead of them taking the loss and binning chicken that has been sitting on display for 30 minutes or more overcooking becoming dry that probably shouldn’t be sold, they would rather take the customers money and give them a poor quality product and experience. Just by looking at the Leb manager at my local you can see that he puts pressure on his staff to sell pieces that are no longer fresh and are overcooked, and that he advises them to do so telling them off over it when he is speaking to them in Lebanese.
I sometimes go to the Granville location in my lunch break when I’m working in the office, the original and best quality location my arse, someone should report them to Parra council 😝. It’s not the worst El Jannah I have had though, my brother lives over the other side of Sydney near Campbelltown, recently when I went to visit him we went to El Jannah at Campbelltown, and we were given by them literally the driest and worse whole chicken we’ve ever eaten in our lives.
How can you tell if it'll be dry or not by looking at the outside?
@star-ggg - You pick a chicken that you have seen them just bring out only minutes before putting your order together (or tell them you want to wait for a new batch to come out), they are not overcooking them in the actual cooking process, they become overcooked and dry from sitting in the heated display that keeps them warm on top of or underneath other hot chickens for too long.
Actually correction, after checking the NSW planning portal, El Jannah Granville falls within the Cumberland Council LGA, not Parra.
Would this work for eat-in?
order online and eat in store, why not?
When IPO?
maybe in a couple of years? GYG still trading at circa 3 billion.
el jannah pricing is getting ridiculous.. a chicken wrap meal is over 30 dollars
@May4th - I don’t think some people realise just how much El Jannah have taken up their prices since pre-Covid (I even remember how much cheaper El Jannah was when the store closest to where I live opened a little over a decade ago)… They certainly were taking the piss there for a couple of years after Covid, every 2-3 months they were increasing their prices by $50c-$1 each time. Personally I think El Jannah is overpriced for what it is, I’m just lazy some nights during the week and buy it because it’s convenient, but if it wasn’t for that they certainly wouldn’t get any of my money. Not only is it overpriced for what you get, the quality of El Jannah’s food isn’t as good as it was a decade ago when the closest store to my home opened… It’s not just the quality of their chicken that’s gone down hill, chips are a big part of their business and they’re not very good at making/cooking them.
El Jannah is the GOAT. Absolutely love it and it fills you up so much more than other chicken shops because of the lebanese component - bread, dips, etc. I'm addicted to it and the garlic sauce, wow.
correct. yes. the garlic sauce means it is very much addictive.
hmm somehow i also remember seeing similar offer promo on doordash/uber eats. just for this chicken shop
but because of the fees, they are still expensive.
if direct maybe okay
