Thoughts on This Solar Quote in Melbourne

Hi All,

I got the following quote from a installer in Melbourne:

Price: $4712
Price is after the VIC Rebate of $1,400 for a 10 kW Solar System
Solar Panels: 23 × 440W EGing PV Star Pro Series
Inverters: SAJ R6 8000W 1 phase

Thoughts on the EGing and SAJ brands?

Thanks

Haven't heard of those brands. From prior quotes, SolarEdge/Fronier as inverters, JA Solar/Jinko are midtier panels were recommended by the installer for their customer support

    • Thanks. Leaning towards Goodwe Inverter, and Risen Panels now for $200 extra

SAJ are pretty good, I have visited their factory and can confirm the product is mid range chinese brand. This on par with your goodwes and sungrow of this world.

With panels I would go JA or Jinko

You will find Sungrow standing slightly above the crowd in 2024. Eg their standard 8kw inverter has 3 mppt trackers, making it quite cost effective to add another direction of cheap solar panels to the system. Sungrow also has local support.

  • Get more quotes, problem solved.

EGing have been around a while, but they tend to have a shorter warranty and don't have an office in Australia to deal with any issues. IMO comes back to whether you expect the installer to still be around the next 10 years when buying a brand based solely out of China, because you'll likely be dealing with them.

I'd pay a little more for Jinko for that peace of mind.

  • Looks like a budget build, not necessarily bad if you are targeting fast ROI. Has the design considered/accounted for shading and panels facing different orientations.

I would avoid EGing unless it's a significant discount, you're stuffed if the installer goes bust or ghosts you afterwards, and they scored poorly in tests: https://www.solarchoice.net.au/wp-content/uploads/pv-austral…

SAJ is fine, on-par with Goodwe but slightly worse than Sungrow, good local warranty as well.

I'd get a quote from Cerium Energy, they're active here and I found them to be very fair to deal with.

  • And you have a finance contract after the rebate?
