Yokohama Geolandar CV G058 Any Good for a Subaru Outback?

Hi all, I was planning to replace the tyres for my 2016 Subaru Outback (225 60 R18) with the Michelin Pilot Sport 4.

But the guy at Bob Jane was strongly recommending that I go with the Yokohama Geolandar CV G058 instead as they have better longevity compared to the Pilot Sports. According to him, the P Sport 4s will only last 40,000kms or so, where as the YG G058s could last up to or more than 100,000kms. I'm looking for a set of tyres that will have reliable wet grip in the 'glorious' Melbourne cold wet weather and hopefully reduce the road noise. I mostly use the car for urban driving, school pick up/ drop offs, etc

The Bob Jane guy also mentioned that Yokohama offers free replacement and repairs through Bob Jane (and a few other ones like Tyrepower as well) if in case something happens to any of the tyres like a puncture, kerb scrape damage, etc.

The Michelin PS4s will cost me $1371 (including the wheel alignment at $89) The Yokohama Geolandar CV G058 will cost me $1241 (including the current free 4th tyre offer from Yokohama and the $89 wheel alignment.

Which of those is the better option long term?

You drive to the conditions? If so, Geolanders will do fine.

  • I'm not sure grip would be a problem with it being awd.

    • The tyre's might be though !

    • What does AWD have to do with grip except in the context of wheelspin, AWD won't help oversteer etc.

We saw over 80,000 on a Subaru Forester at work with Geolanders

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is a great tyre for a sports car but the Yokohama Geolandar CV G058 is more suited for a crossover like the Outback.

What do you want? A sportier tire or something that lasts a long time. Sporty tires wear faster but have better grip, the geolandar is fine for regular use though.

Definitely the PS4 if you are taking the Outback to the track.

Uniform Tire Quality Grade (UTQG) for tread wear
    Geolandar 740
    PS4 320

Meaning the Geolandar will last 2.3x as long as PS4. Tyre guy was pretty spot on.

      • Dont keep driving like a loony because your kid is late. Make them late, or just leave if they arent ready when its time to go. Theyll learn.

      • Don't put other people in danger with your driving just to avoid being late, its not worth it mate. I was in a rush one day and ended up rear ending someone because I was not driving carefully. Ended up paying a lot of money, all for what, to save 2 minutes? Not worth it. Luckily nobody was hurt. Lesson learnt for me.

    I'd fit the Michelins.

If you want longevity fit Michelin Primacy

  • PS4 is a sports tyre. You dont need them unless you drive it like a sports car.

Another here for the Michelin primacy 4 tyres on a modern suv, currently doing cashback offer if you look on Michelin website. Bob Jane is not often cheaper, yes the website is easier to get a price but calling around will often save you more money.

    • Thats true…so far Tyre Power has been very competitive with their pricing when I called around. Although they did suggest the Cooper CS5 Ultra touring tyres over the Michelin's and the Yokohamas.
