  • Nice price.

My only concern is the weight : Weight (kg) 45 kg :(

    • +1

It will weigh more once you feed it.

    • +1

A fair bit lighter than the Aldi dryer then.

  • +2

Serious question, but why would you buy a Miele or AEG etc. for $2000 plus when you could get this? If the more expensive ones get something amazingly better then this then fine, but im failing to see this. After all it simply heats air to dry cloths.

    • It looks good as a matching pair next to their fancy washing machine?

    • +1

Never heard of this brand. I'd happily pay extra for Bosch. Not sure about those others you mentioned though.

    • +3

Miele are made in Germany. Aeg are made in Italy. I suppose you can always ask the question why buy a Audi or Mercedes when a Chery or Haval does the same job? Why buy a Rolex when a Casio does the job? Why buy an Sony or LG OLED when a Kogan 720p 32" TV does the same.

      • +1

Might be surprised. Some Miele appliances are at least partially made in China, some in poorer European countries.

Why buy an Sony or LG OLED when a Kogan 720p 32" TV does the same.

Not the same. That's like saying why buy an 8kg dryer when a 4kg one does the same..
More like why buy a Samsung 50" 4K QLED 144hz for $2025 when you can buy a Kogan 50" 4K QLED 144hz for $499 - not vouching for either product here lol.

      • Because it is very easy to articulate the exact functional differences between a 720p Kogan TV and an LG OLED tv.

OP is wondering what the difference is between this and a European model.

Heat pump works more like a dehumidifier than simply heating the air. It uses a refrigerant similar to an air conditioner. The speed of drying depends on the engineering. The reliability of the Miele should be better since all Miele products go through rigorous testing up to 10k hours. The amount of noise this dryer makes is 70db, but a $2000 Miele heat pump dryer makes 66db (noticeable difference but not outrageous).

So I’d say it’s a trade off. If you didn’t mind replacing the dryer more frequently and a dryer that is a little slower and noisier, get a budget model.

      • agree, with heat pump dryer you do get what you paid for…for my aldi one, its a little noiser and take slightly longer than my samsung one but i paid almost 2k for the samsung and 500 for the aldi

  • Could a cheaper version be a fire hazard. I’m guessing heat pumps should be safe?

    • Any poorly made electronics could be a fire hazard. Remember all of the fires caused by Samsung washing machines a while ago?

      • -1

No, but I remember the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.

  • Anybody here with a choice subscription to chime in?

    • +4

none of these cheap heat pump dryers have been reviewed

  • Is this comparable to the Aldi 8kg and Esatto 8kg Heat Pump Dryer? Reviews on the Esatto and Aldi units seems mostly positive, is this Onix in the same realm?

    • +1

According to the appliances online stats
this Onix Dryer is 8 star 135kWh annually.
The Esatto dryer 7 star 159kWh annually.

  • Wow I just purchased this on Sunday and paid $7 more. Used it once so far and it seems good so far.

  • Does the Aldi unit have reverse tumble action? If it doesn't, and although Aldi has 3 year warranty, is the Onix a better option with reverse tumble and better energy efficiency?

    • the onix seems to also have a 3 year warranty

    • It doesn't reverse. Manual does not state that it does. mine didn't. The lint filters can block mid cycle and it will leek water from underneath on to the floor. It is rubbish i have returned 2. finally got my money back. I predict it will quietly disappear from stores.

  • placed an order. I figured that at the same price as Aldi's one (actually cheaper with a referral code from the randomiser) plus a higher energy rating, I'm better off with this one

    • +1

I saw the Aldi one in store and was seriously tempted but had no idea how I was going to get it from the supermarket floor, down to the basement car park, into my car, then out of my car and into the house.

Might just get this one instead delivered for free instead.

  • "12 programs, this dryer caters to all fabric types"

Cotton, Synthetic, Mixed fabrics, Towels, Denim, Quick Dry, Delicate, Refresh, Duvet, Shirts, Sportswear, Bulky Items

Are you really expected to separate all your wash by fabric & type and then run them in the dryer one after the other?
