nbn 25/10 $53.99/M, 50/20 $63.99/M, 100/20 $68.99/M, 100/40 $78.99/M, 250/25 $83.99/M for 6 Months (New Customers) @ Exetel

790

Exetel has updated their prices for the new financial year in response to NBNCo sucking more $$$ out of the end consumer. Deals are still pretty good compared to the last round, be it with a slight price rise on the high-end plans and more substantial rises on the lower plans.

  • Unlimited data.
  • 5 Speed Boosts per month. (Not on 25/10)
  • No lock-in contract, but you must give 30 days' notice.

You're considered a new customer after being away for 6 months.

I currently use them and find the service to be excellent. Consistently get 105Mbps on my 100/40 service.

    5 Speed Boosts per month.

    Which flavours ?

  • -6

Whats the point, after 6 month it reverts to $64 and $80. I'm ok not moving to these prices.

    • down votes probably from exetel employees/customers.. weird how people get all sensitive just because you have an opinion…

    • +5

You move to another provider for 6 months then come back to Exetel afterwards for another 6 months. Rinse and repeat.

    • +3

Using your figures, you save $96 for the six-month period over not doing the NBN shuffle. The OzB diehards lose it over a $2 discount that requires more work than completing a form and sending an email or making a call, so this $96 saving is easy.

  • +3

Their onboarding process is disappointing. It has been a week since my connection order (moving from another ISP) and credit check. The lack of updates is frustrating.

    • +3

Have you tried reaching out to them? It seems like something has fallen through the cracks or the SPAM filter. When I connected last year, it was all done within hours, along with a heap of updates via email and SMS.

As for credit checks, this was discussed in the last deal, and the consensus was Exetel don’t perform hard credit checks in almost all instances.

      • +1

I have called, and I also have received requests to provide paperwork to prove occupancy. After buying the place and moving in, I don't have utility bills or council rates yet. I have provided settlement confirmation from conveyancer, agent, insurance and electricity/gas connection. After a few days, a different representative asked for the same information.

Like you, I've been connected to other ISPs within hours.

        • +4

Sounds like the last resident left their NBN connection active. Jump on Whirlpool and ask GlennW for some assistance.

          • @Chuppa: Thanks. I appreciate this.

            • @cheapcheerful: How'd you go?

              • +1

@Chuppa: Thanks for following up. I followed up again in the afternoon and the NBN application was apparently rejected. There was no explanation nor indication of when that occured. However, they resubmitted it and the connection was up within an hour.

  • cries in 86Mbps download speed

I have not checked the latest NBN upgrade news for my area but I think last time I checked it was either end of 2025 or somewhere in 2026 and before that it was meant to be end of 2024 so it keeps getting pushed back at this rate I think I will die before they even start upgrading the copper in my area

    • Shhh. 56/14 is the highest attainable rate I've ever synced at. No plans for upgrade schedules.

  • Are these guys okay? Recently churned to spintel but am finding congestion at peak times

    • +4

They are the best in Australia for giving you the speeds you pay for.

    • -1

They are rated number 1 for delivering speeds. been with them for years.

    • Been with them for around 20. Pretty happy. Had to call then 3-4 times over the whole period.

    • Customer Service isn't that great, but you won't need their customer service when you have a connection…. YMMV

Speed is good, backbone is reliable, way better than Vocus.

Free Speed Boost is super nice, although you'll have a brief disconnection (few second) when activating (and automatic deactivation the next day)

30 day notice for cancellation sucks, but manageable if you setup calendar reminder and stay on top of this.

overall more positive than negative IMO.

  • +1

    No speed boost on 25/10.

    • Thanks for the pickup.

    • -3

      Y?

      • Hahaha I am an idiot, I thought you meant 25th Oct. I was searching to see what event was on that date that they wanted to ensure there was no extra network usage. I need more downvotes for this comment.

    • 25/10 will have upgrade to Extra-value 50/20Mbps

This is cheaper than their parent company superloop after the price rise for 100/20 plan. I don't get it.

Superloop refused to give the ongoing price of $85/month and instead offered me $5 off for 6 months ($84) and then a price of $89.95 after that.

I don't get why they can offer this price under exetel but not superloop.

    • +1

Exeter are meant to be the cheaper product. Superloop bought them recently. Maybe things will change but they had great service and speeds before the buy out. Maybe it goes downhill as they lower the budget for support?

      • I thought exetel were the more premium option, which made the buyout even more confusing.

For a long time I was wondering why superloop would buy a company and market their acquisition under a different name as a more premium option than themselves.

Makes sense if exetel are not what they used to be.

        • I could be wrong but I always thought that Exetel prices were lower.
I left them a few months ago for a cheaper price but was always happy with their service and performance over 3+ years.

    • Have you tried Leaptel?

      • I haven't tried leaptel but I have heard good things.

That being said, their pricing is on par with origin (ABB) after the $10 discount if with them for energy.

I would probably go down this avenue if I were to pay $89-ish/month.

    • +2

Exact same thought I had reading this ! I had superloop agree to $84 for 12 months when I called them to disconnect because I couldn't be arsed churning any more. But how is it even cheaper ongoing with exetel and you still get features like speed boosts etc. The service seems identical?

      • +1

Superloop bought exetel. They are practically the same. The only difference really is the connection method. Exetel is PPPoE. Superloop is IPoE.

    • I ended up getting 4 different deals they tried to sell me on, first being the $84 for 6 months, $84 for 12 months, a free modem then the last was $79 for 12 months. Still said I could get cheaper through this deal which in turn wouldnt offer any more money off.

  • +1

I'm on 30-day notice, which was given almost a month ago because of the 50/20 price hike to $79, and they refused to give me a discount.
The connection has been rock solid for me (FTTP), so I didn't want to churn. I'd stay another 6 months if they gave me that price… disappointing.

    • I left Exesmell to go to Superloop. It was cheaper after the initial discount ran out.

    • I'm in the same situation. They kept rolling over my 6 month discount on my 100/20 plan for nearly two years. They refused to extend it again so I'm off to Tangerine at the end of the month.

    • I was on 50/20 @ $70/mth then rang and asked to be disconnected due to price hike. Now paying $75 for 100/20 (30 day terms, price locked for 12mths). Better deals out there but I too have had zero problems with Exetel and speeds have been great.

  • because of the 30 days notice, you can only cancel on the anniversary date if you don(t want to pay for an unused month?

They don't do pro rated refund?

I always forget on get busy on the monthly renewal date day

    Moved from leaptel to exetel

    Constant ping was 80ms.
    Leaptel was 3ms.

Moved back to leaptel after less than a week.

    • 80ms vs 3ms, too much!

      • +3

yep. very noticeable when playing games.

As soon as peak 5pm'ish hits, ping just sat at 80ms.

Leaptel 3ms constant regardless of time.

    • are you on fibre? or

      • Yes fttp.

Exact same speeds with both providers, changed port to the exetel connection, cooked ping results.

        Leaptel port perfectly fine.

        • i wonder what happened there… but yes latency is super important for gamers especially when we're miles down south from the other countries.

  • Does Extel require any configuration in the router (e.g. login/pw) for a HFC connection?

Parents are currently on More and need to switch to something cheaper but I don't have physical access and they're aren't very tech savvy

    • Yes, it requires PPPoE authentication details (username/password)

      • +4

New Exetel nbn signups use IPoE.

    • +1

Beware if you have a google nest router. I couldn't connect to their network after signing. Something to do with the protocol. Their tech support couldn't help as well. Ended up cancelling.

      • You shouldn't of had any problems. Nest Wi-Fi supports IPoE (DHCP on Nest Wi-Fi), PPPoE and static IP.

    • +2

New Exetel connections are IPoE according to their rep on Whirlpool

  • +5

be mindful there is a 30days cancellation notice required.

    • +3

^^THIS! I missed it in the T&C's when I signed up. I cancelled the service and moved to 5g modem due to issues with NBN. Ended up paying a month for exetel service I wasn't using. I've never experienced other ISP's having a 30 day cancellation period, dodgy practice.

    • Stung by this. Paid two months for a service that took a couple of weeks to connect, then I churned to another provider in disgust but got hit for another full month because I didn't give 30 days notice. Two months of payment for two weeks of service provided. Not a bad gig if you can get away with it I guess.

  • +2

If anyone has the more nbn 35% off offer at commbank app, but have already used 12 months discount using commbank mastercard sign up, you can again use that 35% code, just found out if anyone didn't know about that.

  • +1

I actually had the worst experience technically with Exetel.

The default DNS settings that Exetel had meant that any of my smart devices couldn't connect to their own servers (think TV, PS5, Kindle) until I changed their DNS servers to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8. My work laptops connection to our work network was also incredibly slow.

As soon as I changed to Superloop, the issue resolved its self, and since churning to Optus, the issue is still not there.

  • Do they still have exemail? I need access to an old email address

  • Ive been with Exetel for years with FTTP and HFC connection types. Superloop bought Exetel and both deliver exceptional speeds. If you have FTTP or HFC you should not have any issues really.

Main difference Exetel - PPPoE, Superloop IPoE.

    • +5

New Exetel nbn signups use IPoE.

  • For those looking to churn, TPG is offering one month free nbn on their plans

    • No IPv6 on TPG if that is a problem.

    • +1

I am thinking about connecting to TPG via HFC.
$105/month, 1 month free + $100 credit for BYO router

Could not find a better deal on Ultrafast (HFC).

  • +1

I can't remember the correct name for it, but do Exetel have a point of presence in Melbourne and other major cities?

I recall that some providers only have a presence in one major city, Sydney for example, and that would mean if you were in Melbourne, your traffic would flow north before coming back to Melbourne which slowed things down.

If anyone can enlighten me to the correct term I am looking for, and answer the question, that would be bonza.

  • +3

I switched from Exetel last week to Kogan (TPG) for the 50/20 - $58.90 (6 months) then $68.90 ongoing…. I didn't notice the switch over and more importantly nor did the Wife or Kids - hopefully it stays like that.

  • +1

I love paying more for inferior internet. Having said that i'm with exetel for the last 7 years and they've been very reliable.

  • They were extremely painful to cancel from. Would never go back

    • Always read the T&Cs regarding cancelling, there's a few ISPs out there that require a months notice.

      • Well yeah that too, but mainly having to actually call up to cancel, and then having to tell them no multiple times

  • +3

I just called to see if I could get this deal as existing customer, tried extremely hard, best I could get was $79 a month 100/20, booked disconnection for 30days, here’s hoping that there is a better deal soon

  • On HFC does anyone know the percentage that churns take longer then a few hours? Some ISP put a disclaimer that it could take several days?

    • By

      churn

Do you mean the wait time taken to move into Exetel as a provider?

      • Yes.

  • how's the latency when gaming from melbourne?

    • Pretty good and I'm based in the Eastern surburbs. Comparable to Aussie B in the last 24 hours of using.
Only took about 3 hours for it to port over.

      • would it take longer to switch if im on HFC?

        • I'm on HFC. Signed up before 12am and got it connected by 3am.

  • Anyone got a more nbn cba yello discount code they're not using.

  • Whats up with the 100/40 plan, becoming 250/25 with speed boost?

Every other plan, the upload goes up but this one it goes down?

  • Is it normal for an ISP to ask for the MAC address of your NBN modem? I was recently asked for it and quite surprised they asked.

    • You need to include context. Were you getting tech support? Or out of the blue?

      • Was for sign up to an nbn service with an ISP. They asked for the MAC address of the NBN box in order to start the connection of the internet.

The last 8 ISPs I've been with never asked me, so i was surprised and wary.

  • What's their tech support like?

    • Not amazing. Based overseas and are good with very common issues or booking in an nbn tech to come out. Anything more complex and you will be battling.

  • Been with them about 5mths on 250/25 plan
    $99 - $15 6mths promo = $84/mth
Someone on OZB used my referral code which made it $74/mth
Never used the speedboost and have 20x 1000/50 days saved up

FTTP and no issues with service, never needed support so can't comment on that. Today was the first time I spoke to someone and they were very helpful.

Called to see if they can keep the promo price or churn away and with 30days notice. They transferred me to retentions who said they couldn't help yet because the referral discount is still active for another 2 mths. Advised me to continue the service which will be $89/mth for 2mths then call retentions back and they will look at discounting the service again. Seemed very easy to get through to retentions and she would have helped if not for the extra discount I am getting.

    • Wait til you actually go to disconnect and expect them to give you discounts.

I asked for further discount after my initial 6 month discounts and referrals ran out.

      "No more discounts"

-Ok disconnect me I'll go to Superloop

"I'll put you through to retentions"

-I need a discount or I can go to Superloop for cheaper

"I can offer you a modem to stay"

      -Don't need one. Disconnect me

"Ok final offer… I can give you $5 off for 6 months"

      -Superloop is still cheaper

"Ok. Ok final offer. $5 off for 12 months"

-You're not getting the point… Disconnect me..

Happily with Superloop (again) at $15 a month cheaper than Exetel. Thank you.

      • +1

It's just like the game we have to play with elec/gas, get a promo offer then change providers when time is up. It's a lot easier to just set a reminder and change providers than it is calling up and speaking to these companies.

        • Agreed.

  • A couple of months back I successfully churned from Internode to AGL. Now I am trying to move to Exetel and am getting this note at the end of the signup process…"I understand I need a new phone line installed to connect this service at a cost of $297 plus labour and materials". Can anyone explain?

    • Have you selected your address correctly? Maybe give it an hour or so in case their database is being updated.

      • Thanks for the tip!

  • Thanks. Just got connected today to 25/10 Opticomm. So far so good.

  • Has anyone checked if the Shopback cashback ($42 if staying for more than 3 months) stacks with the WHISTLEOUT24 coupon code? (Discount $3/mo for first 6 months on 100/20, on top of the existing 6 month signup discount)?

Or will using any discount coupon code invalidate the cashback?

    • Had the same question and I think it will invalidate the cashback as you are using a coupon code not listed on Shopback and anyways Shopback is just waiting for a reason to reject your cashback claim

  • Does the referral discount work with their advertised discounted for 6 months prices?
And if yes, do you enter it after you fill out your details upon placing your order?

    • Yes, but that's for the referrer (the person in the box above). You don't get an extra 10% off.

      • Thank you
