Ordered. Been waiting for something to pop up like this. Thanks op, let's hope they don't cancel

    • +1

Not gonna be cancelled, I saw it few days ago and yesterday - still same price :)

      • Awesome

    Excellent price. Nice find OP!

  • wifi 6E or just plain old vanilla 6?

    • +2

      Wi-Fi 6.

    • As a rule of thumb - if there's a room to brag about features, the marketing is going to shout it out loud.

If it was 6E, the listing would say 6E.

      • Their are 100s of listing on Amazon that are not labeled as 6e, even though they are because there retailers on Amazon like my girlfriend that don't know all the details about the product and mislabel.

  • review not that great

    • only 1800 combined speed. i ordered a xiaomi redmi 6k. granted, there's no included satellite

    • What? It's Amazon's best selling router with a rating of 4.3/5 from 123 votes.

      • Reviews from independent websites all stating its unstable and low speed

  • get something better.

Asus make good router or mesh system, but not for the lower end router.

For lower end router, go for tp link
For middle to high end router, go for asus

    • Care to enlighten us what's better for this price? Because Amazon's rating by actual users disagree.

  • Does thia have split SSID for 2.4 & 5 GHz?

    • It does. Turn off smart connect.

      • +1

Thanks bought one replacing my Tenda Nova.
        Needs the split SSID

        • +1

You can split SSID's on the Nova with a bit of tinkering.

Wait did I tell this to you a few days ago?

          Edit: it wasn't you. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15412888/redir

          • @cooni: Nice, I might give it a try when I have time. Thanks for the info.
            Hopefully works with my MW3

        • Been on the nova mw6 for a few years now.

Can you let me know if you see any improvements switching over to the asus

          • @mookill: This isn't about this particular product, but following some advice under a previous deal like this, I got two ASUS RT-AX1800s to create a mesh.

Despite having all the protruding antennas, the asus routers I got don't seem to have better coverage than my Tenda Nova MW5c mesh.

Can this be connected directly to the NBN connection box (FTTP) replacing my ISP's supplied router?

    • Yeah you can do that.

    Go XD5 or go home

However, considering both are Gigabit hardware, they will deliver the same sustained speed in any particular connection since their network ports are the bottleneck.

      • While it may be true for wired backbone, for wireless backbone the XD5 should be miles ahead of the XD4. It can dedicate a channel for backbone communication whereas XD4 needs to share a channel with connected devices.

Good article though, I never considered the hardware being the bottleneck. I must be old.

I thought these are a pair of ASUS ZenHifi speakers…

  • can they both act as wireless ACNs with a different ASUS router (main router) connected to NBN box?

  • I have RT-AC68U, which will connect to NTD and can I connect RT-AC68U via ethernet network to these 2 mesh router and get wireless connections on each floor of my double storey house.

I have 2 network points on each floor of my house.

Should be able to using Asus AI Mesh and using a wired backhaul I think

  • Thinking of getting one for my parents' house. At the moment I have an old TP Link router with two TP Link wifi extenders (so there's signal in the backyard). How do I know if they need mesh or just plain ol routers? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    • +1

Download a network tool from the play store or appstore and measure the wifi quality in all areas. If it's good enough everywhere you are fine with a router, if not you need mesh

  • Is this a good combo with my Asus RT-AX86U for AI Mesh?

    • +1

      It may bring negative result.

I try use my ax86u pro as main router and AC 5300 and ac 68u as aimesh . it seems have better coverage, but wifi speed is lower.

now I use ax 82u as aimesh, better results.

      • Thanks for the insight!

      • now I use ax 82u as aimesh, better results.

I wondered whether sticking a "lesser" node in a higher end system would bring the overall system down. I have 2x XT8s at the moment, but have a need for a separate node outside, but if putting something not as powerful will bring the overall performance down then there's no point.

        • Hmm ive been thinking of pulling the trigger on the AX86U and paired with 2 x XT8
…have full brick 2 storey house

        • do not mix wifi 6 router with wifi 5 router.

          I live in a duplex ( brick veneer, two-level ).

          TPG NBN

          1. Ax86u pro as the main router connects with modern ( disable the wifi function of modern , and only use the AX86i pro), pair with Ac 5300 downstairs and AC 68u upstairs as noble

next to the wifi 980mb/s, upstairs 300-350mb/s

          1. Ax86u pro as the main router , pair with ax82u at upstair only .

          upstairs 450-550mb/s

          1. Only use Ax 86u pro as only router

          Upstairs 280-400mb/s

Pretty poor coverage, my friend bought set of 3 from last deal for his double storey house and only manage to get a quarter speed upstairs

    • +2

I had a similar experience. Everyone in my house had been complaining about WiFi with my old Google WiFi setup. I replaced it with a set of three of these (wired backhaul) and the complaints escalated. I swapped back without telling anyone and the complaints have subsided.
So that’s a nope from me.

      • Thanks, I will give it a pass then

    • My experience is quite the opposite. I purchased during the last sale and have great speed and coverage albeit in a single storey home.

  • Sorry dumb question but does this applicable for FTTC NBN?

    • Yes

  • +1

price now at $195.73 for me

    • Same here - but what is better as a similar price? I don't know.

  • Expired.

    • Hey mate, not an expert but any advices on how to get the best of the whole mesh system? I had a very old TP LINK router and upgraded to this and not sure what websites/tools to use to test the quality and stability of my wifi.
