Auspost. Does Anyone Here Have Any Faith Left in These Clowns?

Rant time, and I do appreciate and commiserate when other members suffer the same incompetence from Auspost.

I also acknowledge not every Facility and Delivery Centre or driver are this Useless at their One Job.

Had a Mailbox item 'Delivered" yesterday, except the box was empty. Raised a 'Missing Item' report, and was told reliably by Karen from Auspost, she had spoken with all concerned and Tracking showed it was delivered into my Mailbox.

Well, it was by 09:00hrs this morning, but definitely was not there at delivery time… I saw the van drive off and checked 2 minutes later.

Part 2 of this Consignment… & check the Tracking Holiday Route below… laugh until you cry. Part 3 is going via God knows where, and when… even he doesn't know that.

  • I've usually had a good experience with Aus Post but I've had two recent experiences where they straight up lied about the delivery of an item.

1st Time - tracking showed that it was delivered to our office but was nowhere to be found so I raised a missing item request. They said they checked with the driver and it was delivered to the reception of the business - asked the receptionist and she said nope noone came. I checked the CCTV at the time they claim to have delivered to the reception, no one from Aus Post came in 30mins either side of the specified time. After scrubbing through the CCTV and watching the gates to see if there were any Aus Post vehicles, it turns out it was a postie on a bike that delivered it to our mailbox that is located like 50m from our reception. I mean we received the item in the end but it was just annoying that they would send me on a wild goose chase by saying it was delivered to the reception. I even told them that on the CCTV noone came and they said it was delivered to reception and that if it is lost then I needed to contact the seller.

2nd Time - tracking showed that it was delivered and left in a safe place. It was a box so it wouldn't be easy to miss. After searching around the house, didn't find anything and my dad was home but he said he did not receive any packages. Raised missing item request and they said it was delivered and left in a safe place so it is there and to check again or contact the seller. The next day after double checking again to make sure I didn't miss it around the house, the postie turns up as I am walking around outside the house checking and delivers the package that was supposedly delivered the day before. Biggest load of shit that the manager claims that she spoke to the driver and he said that he delivered it.

I guess both times the driver could have lied to her and told her that they delivered it and she's just passing on what they said. But what really pissed me off is even when I said I have evidence of them not even turning up she just doubled down.

  • I use AP for my eBay sales and 100% of packages get delivered. Some bounce around for a while, but they all get there. So overall I'm pleased with the service.

The letter service runs fine as well. 100% success. The tracked letter business on the other hand… never again. My loss record is 5%, and sometimes AP simply refuse to pay compensation.

It's quite unusual watching a 10kg package be sent from Melbourne to Adelaide, and then back to Melbourne, where it does laps of the airport. Scanned every day. A week later it escapes the airport and lands in Adelaide for delivery. If AP want to cut CO2 emissions, perhaps they should look into not making a 10kg package do an unnecessary 1300km of air travel.

    • The tracked letter business on the other hand… never again. My loss record is 5%, and sometimes AP simply refuse to pay compensation.

I have bought computer cables from eBay sellers who sent them in tracked letter envelopes. Unfortunately on multiple occasions they have arrived half open. I'm guessing it's because they got jammed in some machine since they violated the maximum size or weight printed on the outside of the envelope.

  • I have the complete opposite experience with Aus Post. Not once have they ever lost a package (sure, there have been delays here and there, but nothing catastrophic). My postie and parcel contractor always attempt delivery to my door. I think they do a great job.

  • Auspost is much better than the alternatives I’ve encountered.

We try to use a parcel locker whenever possible. Some vendors don’t allow it. The Auspost app lets you track and they usually give you a heads up of morning or afternoon delivery. They also, immediately, tell you when delivery has happened.

We had a SIM mailed to us and the app told us it had been delivered. We went to the mailbox and no SIM. We rang the help line and the guy looked up the delivery details and said “close but no cigar”. They sent the postie back to where he had delivered it and we had the SIM later that day. They, obviously, have GPS tagged pictures when they deliver parcels.

If they can’t deliver to us they usually drop it at the PO around the corner from us.

    • This is probably the future of parcel. Deliver to a central locker point instead of driving around to everyone's house individually. I find parcel lockers to be super convenient. Any retailers who insist on using couriers have their packages directed to my workplace.

      • When I worked I would get stuff sent to work as well. Somebody to accept the parcel.

With Auspost we have been able to direct delivers from our home address to a parcel licker in the past as well.

    I say…..My veranda is safe…AND dry

Awaiting collection because they are too lazy to walk 100m from car park to front door

So your door is 100 meters away from the closest car park, and it was raining? You'll get it another day mate, I don't blame some kid earning $55k being "too lazy" to walk a football fields distance in the rain for your little parcel.

    • -1

      It wasn't raining.

Although that is an excuse some may use to not perform their delivery duties.

And almost every other courier delivers in the rain.

Their choice to work outdoors, so no excuse.

      • Still your expectation is that a courier driver gets out of his van and walks 100 meters to your door to drop it off.

The couriers expectation is that your door/porch be easily accessible, evidently you have not made your house easily accessible as you describe the drop off area as being as far away as a football field.

You would argue the courier is far too entitled if he said build a bigger driveway. Maybe some reflection on why myself and others here are seeing you as entitled, and you will live a much happier life.

        • -2

You make too many assumptions. And your reflections - more assumptions…. from where the sun don't shine - sarcasm and childish thoughts are not warranted by the likes of you and your uneducated self.

Do you pick and choose which parts of your job you do or don't do when everyone else does as described in the job
description? Or do you pick n choose and still expect to be paid….if so you are lacking integrity.

Driveway?? There is no choice in Multi unit complexes, and only you are mentioning unwarranted words such as 'entitled'.

But to correct your misquoting…. it is 100 m from mailbox to front door, but only 50 m from car park. That would be in the ball park of 100s of 1000s of other parcel delivery distances from car parking to a front door in each city, let alone around Australia.

Never let the Facts get in the way of a good story 'eh CrabLurd. Try asking first… get the facts, and then you be assuming on about how others do or don't do things.

          • @doctordv8: Listen matey. You are clearly rubbing people the wrong way with your entitlement and super high expectations for a service where the bloke is literally being paid like $2, out of the $12.95 you paid for your night vision goggles. The long and short of it is no one cares, and is reflected in all the feedback you have received in this whine-fest.

Try not being a head up own (place where the sun don't shine) whinge-a-tron and you might be seen in a bit better light.

            • -1

@CrabLord: Listen Craby, you are again…incorrect.
Parcel Delivery is their job, and your $ figures are pure guess work. Where do you come off with the high n mighty God syndrome? Many here have similar issues, many also have no faith in them, and it even made the National news that it is a wide spread issue. I feel you seriously over rate you own self importance.

Nothing nice, constructive or helpful to add to the conversation, that I and many others have raised, then do us all a favor and be silent. Your rhetoric is not warranted nor wanted.
Many care, just not you… ok…. you have vomited your vile 2 cents worth, but you are not helping anyone.

Lastly, you are still way short on Facts and big on or own Ass-umptions.

    Lesson here,
    -Nothing is Perfect
-There is no accountability when things go wrong
-Theres nothing you can do to change these things

    • -Theres nothing you can do to change these things

you can make a post on ozb and have a whinge

      • Post on OzB you can, "change these things" you cannot

  • I have actually moved to an area where delivery is pretty good. My Unit is a bit hard to find, but they make the effort to drive into the property.

Just got to get them to put stuff under cover if I am not home and it would be perfect!

  • -1

But you’re expecting the posty to walk 100m , from your mailbox to your veranda , to put it in a dry spot for you ?

  • Use them regularly for my business. Haven't had an issue worth noting.

A couple of parcels have gone missing due to unknown circumstances, but a claim was easy to process.

Its easy to hang shit in auspost. But they deal with hundreds thousands of packages a day and have to do every location in Australia at the same price because they're a national service. Unlike private courses who charge a lot more for non metro deliveries.

  • Depends lots on your area. Mine is great- the delivery guy is always smiley and happy zooming along on his electric bike, the local branch staff are friendly and competent. Next suburb down, 10 minutes walk away, the local post office branch is famous for being both incompetent and flat out rude.

  • I'll bite.

For parcels, make use of their Parcel Collect ##### service and visit their Post Office weekly.
(or when your AusPost notification app tells you to)

Easy, always there, no missed parcels.
Bonus nice fellow human-being to be able talk to.

    • Complex …multi mailboxes… so this is not an option. Having Parcels delivered as paid for is is my preferred option.

      • there are single big lockers as well and smart locker box. under $200.

I wasnt a fan of Amazon at first, but now they are my first choice since they dont deliver by AusPost/StarTrak so stuff in reliably on my doorstep with photo status as soon as delivered.
Not thrown in the garden, not next door, not on top of the letterbox, not in middle of driveway, not missed you card in letterbox clearly written at home.
    AusPost did it to themselves.

    • likewise never had an issue with amazon.
there was one driver that called me and asked me to pick up a heavy parcel from his boot while he stood next to his car.
and then had the gall to ask for a 5 star rating.
i wasn't going to bother leaving feedback but since he asked.. it wasn't 5 stars..

    • Amazon use AusPost to deliver sometimes.

      • Maybe, I usually get the prime next day stuff, so AusPost never gets those.

        • Yeah all the prime stuff is done via their delivery drivers.

The overseas stuff I have got via AusPost has come from overseas.

I like the way the Amazon delivery drivers can call you from their scanner. I can be at home listening to a podcast and still won't miss a delivery since they can easily call me on approach.

  • +1

Surprised you got so much harsh feedback on this one.

They are shit and suggestions to use a parcel locker defeat the purpose. It has become a Saturday tradition in our area to queue with 5-10 irate people waiting in line to pick up our low-value deliveries we 'missed'. I'm usually there to pick up my 1kg coffee beans.

Some 'contractors' who deliver are quite good and others I'm fairly sure take our deliveries straight to the post office. One time I saw a contractor throw a parcel quite skilfully out his moving van window onto someone's porch.

We use Amazon if we order items we urgently need - they will always deliver.

  • postal ombudsman problem solved

  • Once ordered a Nespresso delivery. It was meant to be sent to a Parcel Locker but my home address was on the sticker instead. Got an email from Aus Post saying a parcel is waiting to be collected from LPO because "no one is home" at time of delivery.

I called Nespresso and they sent me a new delivery to the right address but never took the wrong one back. Got numerous emails and even a phone call from Aus Post afterwards saying the parcel is still waiting at the LPO. I ignored them all as Nespresso was meant to arrange the wrong order be returned.

After 2 months, miraculously one day the wrong order showed up at our front door even though there was indeed no one home that day.

Ok, but how do you have your porridge? 😂

  • I haven't had many issues in my area. When I did it was more about the way how the sender packed.

To be honest, I think only HDL and FedEx are better than Auspost (metro area). Compared to Aramex/Fastway, Auspost is a solid 3 star service, possibly 4 out of 5.

I can't judge if your varanda was safe and dry.

Anyway, not a lot of options, particularly if you don't live in a metro area.

  • Your package hasn't made a trip to Perth and back yet, what are you complaining about?

  • You should see the tracking on an ebay item i sent from Oyster Bay to Pymble - took 3 weeks! Kept going to Chullora then back to Sydney South West depot - over and over and over again.

I finally got through to their chat service (phone and chat offerings were both getting smashed) and a customer rep opened up an investigation that would take min 10 days.

eBay'er I was dealing with was patient, but such an inconvenience, especially when eBay puts your funds on hold too!

Our local is great, but sending packages via eBay is just not worth it any more, especially with their increased cut of the sale….

  • It’s the “how did we do emails”.

You delivered a letter. Good on you Aust Post, good on you 👏

  • Never had an issue and I receive at least one delivery a week

  • +1

Yes another rant. Remember every circus has clowns, even ozbargain

  • I seldom get anything for myself through the post. It’s been better as of late but getting stuff sent straight to the house is defs playing with fire sometimes

  • Austpost is great for me, never had a problem. I just assume other people have shitty lives and need something to complain about

  • I’ve dealt with LPO where I caught them stealing my stamps because I was overpaying and they knew it and so they just took off the excess and kept it for themselves

    • The staff spent time ungluing stamps? Just how desperate were they for money? The stamps wouldn't be suitable for resale.

  • I understand APost parcel delivery drivers might be paid something like $1 per parcel - maybe including collection and return time where they have to organise and sort their own pile of stuff and their own delivery plan/route or somesuch - so it is often simply not worth their time to go to a doorbell, and stand and wait for someone to answer when more often then not there will be no answer.

For inner Sydney units they often don't bother to ring the intercom due to that waiting time, and the increased risk of theft if left at common entrances - so they often just leave a card in a letterbox to collect from the nearest post office.

That said - a unit upstairs of me gets many parcels delivered and at least once or twice a week I find a parcel addressed to them left inside the common entrance - as I guess that resident either doesn't care as they are low-value items, or they've not experienced loss of a major item that way. Meh.

  • They're great up here in the bush

  • The normal postie and delivery driver are good where I live, occasionally there's a new contractor that isn't so great.

  • -1

    Sucks to be a Queenslander

  • I have two registered letters about a week apart that wasn't delivered because I had a "faulty" door bell (the first letter) and my non existent gate was locked (the second letter). I can confirm that the door bell is working and my CCTV did not pcik up anyone trying to ring my "faulty" door bell and I was also sitting in a room next to the front door so I would had heard them clicking of the "faulty" door bell. For the second letter, unless my locked front door counts as a gate, I don't have a gate between the street and the front door. If I have to taker a guess, that particular postie is too lazy to attempt delivery and they are just picking random reasons(excuses) so that they can skip deliveries. The electronic collection notices had really enabled them to no borther turning up.
The only saving grace is that my post office allows people to knock on the door between 6AM - 9AM to pick items up so it was just two trips to the post office in the morning and not the usual 30 minutes - 1 hours wait in a line to get service.

  • +2

Wait till they get a banking licence.

  • Every half year I have to lodge a complaint because the delivery person did not know how to identify or use a parcel chute. I even have plaques under the doorbell asking them to use it, and telling them where to pull to open. When I lodge a complaint, they check the record of complaints, including photos I sent previously showing hoe obviously it all is, and have nothing to say because of the sheet stupidity of the matter.
They once left a parcel on the track of our sliding gate, jamming it, which had "use parcel chute" on the postage label.

    You can't make this up.
