Unauthorised Hubbl Subscription Due to Account Credentials Breach

I shouldn't be surprised, given it is Foxtel, but I've just been signed up (without my consent) to a 'new' Neflix account through Hubbl.

I don't have Hubbl - or more accurately I only have an old Kayo account which I no longer have an active subscription with.
I don't have active subscriptions for Binge, Flash, Lifestyle or any of the other old Streamotion affiliates. They used my old Kayo account email (I know because I used the [email protected] trick) to advise me of my new subscription to Netflix, which they had already charged to the CC which was still on file for the old Kayo sub. This email came through at 1:30am.

I already have Netflix (using a different email address) which has active subscription credit. I contacted Hubbl and asked for cancellation and refund - which will apparently happen in 3 business days.

So I guess this is a PSA - check your old Streamotion accounts and cancel/remove CC details if you don't want unsolicited Hubbl subscriptions. You might be getting charged twice for the same service.

Activate your subscription

Hi G,

You have successfully added Netflix - Standard to your Hubbl billed subscriptions. Hubbl will now bill you monthly for this subscription.

To set up Netflix with Hubbl and pause billing with Netflix, please use the link below:

Setup your Netflix
You can also setup your subscription and pause billing with Netflix by accessing Setup Subscriptions under My Subscriptions in My Account.

Important action to avoid double billing

If you have an existing account with Netflix, you will continue to be billed by Netflix until you setup your subscription with Hubbl. To avoid duplicate charges, please setup your subscription before your next payment cycle with Netflix.

If you are currently paying for Netflix using a third-party service (e.g. bundling your streaming payment with your phone bill or energy bill) you will need to cancel your Netflix subscription with that third-party before you can setup your Netflix subscription with Hubbl.

Hubbl

You asked them to refund you which is all well and good, but did they provide any further info on how this happened in the first place? My first question is were your Kayo account creds leaked somehow?

    • No indication how it could have happened. They suggested I change my password - which I did - but it was a 16 character random from Lastpass. Possibly from a Streamotion data leak, but unlikely a brute force hack.

        https://tvtonight.com.au/2024/05/binge-kayo-customers-remind…

There was a "security incident" between March and April this year, and some customers were advised of the following:

"During this attack, your username and password were successfully verified against Hubbl’s systems which would have allowed the unauthorised third party to gain access to your Hubbl account."

Not saying that's exactly what happened, but yeah, this is pointing to your account was hacked.

Yeah, I guess so - I checked Have I Been Pwned.

Too bad Kayo/Hubbl didn't email me directly to advise of this breach. Cnuts…

    Sounds like you got hacked

  • It took 6 weeks for Hubbl to sort out my Kayo subscription, they are useless.
Why would anyone trust them to manage other subscriptions?

    • Hubbl IS Kayo now (and Binge). The sneaky thing is they want you to "add" your other non-affiliate subscriptions (like Netflix and Disney+) to their ecosystem and have just one billing location.

In my case I didn't even have an active Hubbl, Binge, Kayo or any other subscription with them. But somehow I was signed up to a new Netflix subscription.

So either they are dodgy or perhaps my old Kayo account details were leaked?

Or perhaps someone got your credit card details (guessed, phished or stolen), and was able to link them to your old Kayo account, and collect some kind of kick-back?

Then again, it could be hackers working for Foxtel to increase subs, you know, for a few cents per successfully charges target. Wouldn't be the first time the Murdoch empire has paid hackers….

          When was the 1st ???

Sounds like your details were compromised, this isn’t Hubbl’s fault and they’ve done everything correct in the situation by refunding you too.

Rupert has a new wife now so she needs to be financially looked after somehow

    • so she needs to be financially looked after somehow

Pretty sure he has enough to retire on…

      • Yes, he does. She didn’t marry him for his wrinkles & Rupert doesn’t want to dip into his billions

She is a molecular biologist and is doing research in 'biological immortality' and how to overcome the Hayflick limit.

Rupert is smarter than you think………..

Isnt Hubbl just a good old fashioned android box?
I cant work out the appeal.

    • no

Hubbl in general doesn't have a purpose.

    • It has some good features, but is too 'locked down' for my liking…

      • What are the "good features?"

        • Combined EPG across all services and then automatically goes to that show in that app when you select it.

          • @jv: Not sure if that's a feature

            • @Drakesy: It is in their advertising of it…

              • @jv: I think that's where they put all their R&D budget.

                  @Drakesy: That, and Hamish's costume…

          • @jv: Can do this with Google TV already.

  • I think Rupert just took a haircut on his NY apartment so needs to raise funds
