Clickhost Has Been Acquired by Nexigen Digital - Ie VentraIP

How ironic, last year I moved my domains from VentraIP to Clickhost - who charge very little compared to other registrars. I believe at the time it was half the price of VentraIP?

Now Clickhost has been acquired by Nexigen Digital, and all of the domains will be moved onto VentraIP into the VIPcontrol platform.

"We first want to assure you that the price you currently pay for your Clickhost service will not change for the next three years, including any subsequent renewals"

I mean here they are acknowledging they cost a lot more. We have three years of reprieve but I wonder what happens after that.

What are your thoughts?

"What happens after that" is that the price will rise to the Ventra IP price.

you find another provider in 3 years time

  • And just what services do you have with them and how much do you pay.

  • Yep, just got their email. I went with clickhost due to the ongoing cheaper domain pricing. I like using their control interface and the their wemail only hosting pricing which i dont think VentraIP offers.

  • Surprise surprise, another hosting provider aquired by Nexigen.

  • Rack servers > clickhost > VentraIP 😫

Dean Walsh at ClickHost was fantastic! He put together a fantastic little company which provided second to none service.

If anyone knows where he and his team as gone - they are definitely not at VentraIP according to their support team - please let us know. I will happily move away from VentraIP, yet again, to his team in a heatbeat. VentraIP is terrible in their support, in their band-aid solutions, lack of continuity, and very poor timeliness to resolution.

    • the vast majority of people seem to disagree, could you elaborate on the poor experience you had, any issues in particular?

I was with NetVirtue years ago when they were aquired by VentraIP. 3 months in they migrated services and crashed a bunch of my websites due to alt-php (MultiPHP) on their instances of CloudLinux being misconfigured. I had to fix it myself by manually symlinking the different configs and then speaking to support was like pulling teeth. In the end i had to send them a link to the CloudLinux docs page showing how to set it up correctly, the docs even had a note about the exact misconfiguration issue that they had…. And this is supposed to be a multi-million dollar company. Totally incompetent.

So I obviously moved away and have been happy with ClickHost until i got this email….

    • Exactly! We are not alone. There are many on ClickHost who are less than delighted about being moved to VentraIP.

I have already had horror experiences with VentraIP support and they haven't even migrated me over yet. The manager of support had to finally get involved and then confirmed that he would look into the issue and get back to me, and in the mean time he would make sure that I would not migrate my account from ClickHost to their VentraIP host.

So so you think he ever called me back?! No!

And to top it off today I received a generic email notifying me that they are migrating me over to VentraIP next week!

They are worse than incompetent; they don't care about their customers.

If a ClickHost similar small Australian host provider exists, please let us know so that we can save ourselves from the VentraIP "experience"

Look, VentraIP is not great on the hosting side, but they have been good for me on domains even if more expensive than some. You do need to consider that they also offer full DNS hosting for your domains as well, and a few other nice things like private nameservers & domain forwarding for no extra cost. They are also locally owned unlike most other brands out there (under Newfold Digital, aka EIG).

Honestly, the worst I ever saw was WebCentral brands merging in their acquisitions. Melbourne IT was an absolute farce back in the day, and the only other easy to deal with domain registry was NetRegistry, which was then bought out by Melbourne IT. The whole WebCentral conglomerate is now owned by 5G Networks (aka 5GN) which is ASX listed, but they are mainly a telecoms company.

In terms of what else is good, it depends what you need.
        * If you are into or can manage a VPS, then BinaryLane or QuantumCore.
        * If you are only wanting cPanel account, then QuantumCore does those.

Both QC and BL have been good to me so far, and seem to have enough bulk to not sell out to Nexigen, WebCentral/5GN or Newfold Digital.

        • @Monsta-AU thanks so much!!
